I am not a fan of snakes, they creep me out. But I was alarmed at how the creatures were handled and mishandled in the church service. Even swinging them around and standing on them. If I were a snake, I would bite too! I consider it cruel and inhumane to the animal.

My cousin and her husband were super religious and tried convincing my mom and I (we’re also religious; but have some common sense) to eat foods we were allergic to - in my mom’s case, it be deadly if not treated within minutes. They went out, got the different foods, including something my cousin was allergic to, they did some little hocus pocus show for a good 45-minutes to “sanctify” the food, and my cousin ate what she was allergic to. They tried convincing us, almost by force to eat the stuff we were allergic to; but we didn’t. Within minutes my cousin was super sick and the husband kept praying vs taking her to the hospital and blaming us for not believing. Everything turned out ok; but some people are just special 🙄
That's horrible! Your cousin should be charged with attempted murder. I have some crazy uber-religious family too that I stopped having anything to do with 28 years ago, after one of them beat my four year old son black and blue while "babysitting", while the other one dragged me to her weird church. I was so angry, we packed up and left. I should have called police, because they were also abusing their youngest son (who was my favorite and very smart). I'm happy to know that child is grown now and has nothing to do with his evil parents and their sick church. He's successful, happily married, and does not beat his precious 2 children. I'm so proud of Casey breaking free from that cult. My son has a mental disorder, and I've suspected he's on the autism spectrum. As an adult, he suffers from acute schizophrenia. I never spanked him, I don't believe that teaches a child anything except to become a better liar. I never had any behavior issues with him, because I knew how to talk to him. I took parenting classes when I learned he was neurodivergent, and what I learned was golden! Punishment doesn't work, natural consequences do!

I had a corn snake and a garter snake living in my backyard. I've had the pleasure of seeing their babies slither around my yard. I enjoy picking up the garter snakes, and just looking at their beautiful scales. Such cute things. It breaks my heart to see them being straight out abused. Fcking sick human beings.

My granddad was a baptist preacher and was strict as hell. He even told my dad that the peace sign was a broken cross so it was evil, I wasn't allowed to wear peace sign growing up. My other grandparents were scammed by a travelling "faith healer" their son had severe kidney issues and he said he healed him of them. 2 weeks later he died.
I couldn't wear the peace sign either, but I'm an Adventist. I had this peace sign necklace my cousin gave me and I absolutely loved it, my mom told me to hide it from my dad. I put up beaded curtains when I was about 11 and they had little peace signs in them, my dad didnt notice the peace signs at first but when he did those curtains came down!

They had another child die in the 60s from appendicitis. They had a lot of misfortune in general but those two upset me the most.

My family isn't super religious, but recently my uncle also had kidney problems and so they enlisted the help of some quack healer who told them to pray hard and made a bottle+amulet to "heal" him (which they had to pay almost a hundred bucks for. Wtf). It sucks because not soon after that, he coincidentally improved so they all thought that was what healed him. When I was younger I adopted a snake that had an abusive owner. A lot of people don’t realize they are very vulnerable creatures who have a natural fear of birds of prey. So you can really freak them out if you don’t handle them properly. I can’t even express how enraged these snakehandling fucks make me.

besides the animal abuse I was laughing pretty hard. I was subjected to a born again Christian upbringing, church twice on Sunday and once on Wednesday. I remember when I was 8 years old and most of the adults were convinced that the rapture was going to place that year. I knew then, even as a small child, that these people were weird and crazy.

When I was a home health nurse in North Georgia, I admitted a patient with the lower half of her foot missing. After asking if she had diabetes, high blood pressure, circulation issues, etc., she just responded that “her foot fell off.” I visited her everyday to perform wound care on what remained of her foot. Finally, she let it slip. My patient talked about getting the “spirit” on Saturday nights, especially when the snakes were passed around. Got my “official” answer. Instead of seeking treatment, she allowed her foot to turn gangrene, which, in itself, almost killed her.
@josephmartin5483 I learned recently the snakes are refrigerated before “services.” One reason they appear docile. My patient’s wound was awful! Can’t imagine the pain she felt after the bite. She waited too long for medical treatment. Rattlesnake venom “rots” underlying tissue. By the time she decided to visit the ER, the area bitten was black and possibly ready to “fall-off.” Sorry for being so graphic. I’m a Christian, but I wouldn’t “test” God, especially using rattlesnakes!
I live in Kentucky and I have dated 2 girls that were overly religious families and when they demanded I attend church with them. 1st one I was 16 years old and she was 16bas well and I went to their church and after about 20 mins the pastor brought out the snakes I got up and left. It made them mad but I cured their anger by making their daughter single. The 2nd one I was 20 and she was 19 but when I arrived I saw snakes drawn on the wall and immediately told her if there are snakes I'm leaving now or if you want me to stay I will but only if I can bring my gun in and if any snakes get near me I will kill them. She relayed that message and the pastor came to me ans said yes bring your gun if it makes you comfortable. I did just that and set in the back away from everyone but my girlfriend sat with me. Ironically the pastor was bit and died from it and the rest of the church blamed me for his death as somehow my lack of faith caused his passing. I said I had 100% faith in rattlesnakes venom being deadly but my lack of participation didn't make him misjudge his ability to live after multiple bites but maybe it was God trying to stop him and the rest of the church from practicing wicked ways and lying with serpents. I broke up with that girl the next day. These idiots will put those snakes around babies and very young kids and no way am I watching that. It's stupid and wrong. There are plenty of ways to test your faith without playing with venomous snakes!

They went out, got the different foods, including something my cousin was allergic to, they did some little hocus pocus show for a good 45-minutes to “sanctify” the food, and my cousin ate what she was allergic to. They tried convincing us, almost by force to eat the stuff we were allergic to; but we didn’t. Within minutes my cousin was super sick and the husband kept praying vs taking her to the hospital and blaming us for not believing. Everything turned out ok; but some people are just special 🙄

When I was younger I adopted a snake that had an abusive owner. A lot of people don’t realize they are very vulnerable creatures who have a natural fear of birds of prey. When I was a home health nurse in North Georgia, I admitted a patient with the lower half of her foot missing. After asking if she had diabetes, high blood pressure, circulation issues, etc., she just responded that “her foot fell off.” I visited her everyday to perform wound care on what remained of her foot. Finally, she let it slip. My patient talked about getting the “spirit” on Saturday nights, especially when the snakes were passed around. Got my “official” answer. Instead of seeking treatment, she allowed her foot to turn gangrene, which, in itself, almost killed her.

She waited too long for medical treatment. Rattlesnake venom “rots” underlying tissue. By the time she decided to visit the ER, the area bitten was black and possibly ready to “fall-off.” Sorry for being so graphic. I’m a Christian, but I wouldn’t “test” God, especially using rattlesnakes!

I live in Kentucky and I have dated 2 girls that were overly religious families and when they demanded I attend church with them. 1st one I was 16 years old and she was 16bas well and I went to their church and after about 20 mins the pastor brought out the snakes I got up and left. It made them mad but I cured their anger by making their daughter single. The 2nd one I was 20 and she was 19 but when I arrived I saw snakes drawn on the wall and immediately told her if there are snakes I'm leaving now or if you want me to stay I will but only if I can bring my gun in and if any snakes get near me I will kill them. She relayed that message and the pastor came to me ans said yes bring your gun if it makes you comfortable. I did just that and set in the back away from everyone but my girlfriend sat with me. Ironically the pastor was bit and died from it and the rest of the church blamed me for his death as somehow my lack of faith caused his passing. I said I had 100% faith in rattlesnakes venom being deadly but my lack of participation didn't make him misjudge his ability to live after multiple bites but maybe it was God trying to stop him and the rest of the church from practicing wicked ways and lying with serpents. I broke up with that girl the next day. These idiots will put those snakes around babies and very young kids and no way am I watching that. It's stupid and wrong. There are plenty of ways to test your faith without playing with venomous snakes!
