    I bought the m12 circular saw as a bare tool a few years back (not in a kit with the 4 ah). At the time I had a few 1.5 and a single 3 ah battery to use with it. I loved the saw but wanted more power. I finally got a 4 ah battery and it made a big difference. It's still just a 12v saw but now I feel like I'm getting the true potential out of it.

    Thanks for the comparison. Most of my tools are Milwaukee M12, so this is good to know. Some M12 tools def benefit from the XC packs - circular saw, hackzall, drill with big spade bit. Then others probably don't need the extra power and benefit from small size like impact driver, rotary tool, hand held lights, etc.
    Do you still have the M12 Circular saw you did a video on? I tell you I love that thing. Its just so small and light, haven't needed to break out my corded 7 1/4 Hitachi since I got that little Milwaukee.

    I like using the 1.5 and 2 for quick, small jobs or on a ladder. They fit a little easier inside my tool belt too. I'm into RC cars where Brushless motors and lithium batteries have been used for a bit of time now. A bigger battery with more cells will give my trucks more power and run time. It's something well known in our hobby. Having said that, great demonstration. Certain batteries serve a purpose like the tool itself. I have a pulse impact for indoors, and large 18v impact for long big jobs. Though my new Fuel M12 combo tools seem to do it all lately. Love these little guys.

    You may be still right but why not compare exact same 3.0 Ah? From what I was told by Milwaukee on the 2.0 battery you used that it is also a XC unless stated otherwise by a CP. The kit is marketed with that battery being a XC 2.0Ah. Another reason is that I had 2.0Ah battery compared to a 4.0Ah battery with no type of extra feature and the bigger Ah battery put out more power by it just being a bigger battery and none of that cell technology. Is any of this true?

    • @DoresoomReviews
      @DoresoomReviews  3 роки тому

      Because I don't have either of the 3Ah batteries.
      Milwaukee definitely brands their M12 2Ah batteries as CP: www.milwaukeetool.com/Products/Batteries-and-Chargers/M12-Batteries-and-Chargers/48-11-2420
      If you saw it named as a 2Ah XC on a retailer's product listing, then the retailer made a mistake.

    I believe the title is a bit misleading...
    "XC"(Extra Capacity) batteries hold charge for extended periods of time vs compact ones(they have more cells).
    The video shows higher amp batteries employing more power(expected). Power(watt) = amps x volts
    I was looking for a more "apple to apple" comparison when I clicked on this title

    • @DoresoomReviews
      @DoresoomReviews  4 роки тому +6

      These are higher Amp-HOUR rated batteries, which means more energy storage capacity (Watt-hours). There's no metric that the manufacturer supplies concerning Amperage output. However, a side effect of having more cells to store more energy is that they can output more power (higher current draw at the same voltage). The title is exactly what the video answers.

    • @-.__.__.-Rad
      @-.__.__.-Rad 4 роки тому +1

      @@DoresoomReviews There's a difference between power and capacity(power reserve). Even mfg's put specs out calculated with formulas. Plenty research mat'l available. The fact that the XC keeps up the initial level of powers is due to capacity. Individual cells discharge at a much slower rate. The video title is trying to explain how capacity = power, yet you are using different power rated batteries. See the difference?

    • @DoresoomReviews
      @DoresoomReviews  4 роки тому +2

      We are saying almost exactly the same thing, but I think the difference comes down to whether the XC batteries are rated for higher energy storage capacity or higher power output. The funny thing is, I've never had anyone dispute that these XC batteries can store more energy before - I always have to argue that they are capable of more power output. That's why I made the video and titled it the way I did.
      The XC batteries are RATED for higher energy storage capacity, with the side effect of them having the ability to output more power due to the higher cell count. The Ah (Ampere-hour) rating is a unit of energy storage capacity, not power output capability. It's the same as Watt-hours divided by the nominal voltage (in this case 10.8V). If you look at the bottom of the 2Ah battery, it will say 21.6 Wh. A 2Ah battery can output 2A at 10.8V for one hour. It can also output 4A at 10.8V for half an hour. The "amp number" in the amp hour rating is NOT a measure of its max current output capability. The 2Ah battery can output waaaay more current that 2A. You can drain it in the span of 15 minutes if you're running it on a power hungry tool, which means it's outputting an average 8A during that time period.

    Any idea what cells Milwaukee is using within their 4Ah and 6Ah XC batteries? I was watching another video in which the OP opened a supposed Milwaukee 6.0Ah battery (which I think was a knock off). His battery had three 18650 samsung 30Q 3000mAh 3.6V batteries (wired in series presumably). If I understand lithium-ion battery architecture correctly that meant his battery actually only gave 3.0Ah @ 12V, not 6.0Ah

      The batteries in that other video are real OEM batteries - they're just the design that Milwaukee sells overseas. There were 6 cells in that 6Ah that he took apart - the three in the stem of the battery weren't shown. So that gives two sets of 3 cells, which comes out to 10.8V (12V max) @ 6Ah total.

      @Allison Duramax Because the LG HD4 cells that make up the 4.0 battery have a 25Ah max discharge, the Samsung 30Q cells that make up the 6.0 have a 15Ah max discharge.
      Think of the cell capacity as a water tank, and the max current delivery as the water pump. The 6.0 might hold more, but it can't match the flow rate of the 4.0.
      Now this only matters in a few of the higher demand tools. Hope this helps.

    • @procrastinator1842
      @procrastinator1842 3 роки тому

      @Allison Duramax the 2.0 and 4.0 battery use the exact same cells. The difference is the 2.0 uses a single bank of 3 cells, and the 4.0 uses 2 banks of 3 cells. So the 4.0 is like having 2 tanks each with its own pump. Twice as much storage and twice as much flow.
      The only other factor that will come into play is the over current cut out in the tool itself. If that over current cut out is set lower than the max output of the 4.0 or 6.0 battery, then the tool won't make use of the extra oomph from either cell anyway.
      For a die grinder, you are not going to attempt to stall it out, so I don't think it matters in this instance. Go the 6.0 for the run time 👍
