I listen to this version often and like you it evokes similar memories. I lost a lot of friends in Nam, earned my own purple heart there as well. The pain never goes away. The simple harmonies of this song is both soothing and haunting. I'm now 76 years old, its doesn't get easier. Thank you for your post. Today is the first time I have looked at any of the posts.
I never understood why she wasn’t mainstream. I mean, she’s famous but not like others. She’s leaps and bounds ahead of some mainstreamers in the talent department. I’ve listened to her for a couple decades now. Her voice is like silk.
This is right up there with Danny O'Keefe's original, in my opinion but for a different reason. Danny sang from living the pain and loneliness and Allison sings like she is watching Danny and feeling his pain. Two wonderful takes on his soulful, melodic masterpiece.
Agreed. She has a beautiful voice. Danny's original recording has more feeling to it. Seen some videos of him singing it in the last few years. Just not the same feeling.
This is one of my favorite go-to karaoke songs on my Saturday night beer drinking excursions. I love how people always pay attention once they recognize the song. ( not from my singing unfortunately). Have always loved the song. Remember the late great Charlie Rich doing a cover.
About 20 years ago I had a boss who had a brief career as a guitarist. He told me of meeting the late Albert King in an airport and asking King for advice for being a good guitarist. In a hurry, King replied "It ain't the notes you play, it's the notes you don't play." These excellent musicians clearly know that rule. Just a beautiful rendition of Good Time Charlie.
This woman can sing any song and immediately make it her very own! This is the best cover rendition of this song I have ever heard. Class act for sure! ~Jim~
Alison has, in my opinion, the purest voice in Nashville. I don’t ever think I’ve heard a bad note out of this lady. The backup vocals and musicians are top notch too.👍👍🇨🇦
So nice to hear this gentile version of good time Charlie, the piano was gentile and soothing but no whistling to finish was sorely missed, thank you Alison for your compassion for Charlie, I loved it, Charlie.💙
Sad. I'm in Calhoun, GA tonight. I sat outside the Raceway Store with Charlie Daniel's a few weeks ago as blue as I could be. He wasn't. He would reposition my cigarette pack on the table every time I would. I've got less worries with a guitar in my hand, but that old fellow was all smiles and no fiddle.
I love this version of Good Time Charlie. Alison Krauss has the voice of an angel, and those are the Coxes backing up her vocals. Barry is on bass, can't tell who the piano or guitar players are. Such a soothing song (although sad for Charlie).
This rendition brings me to tears. The whole package is great. Great song, great lyrics, the musicians, the back up vocals, and of course Alison is superb. Even the lighting and setting and the filming are great. Good job, everyone.
She is her own definition if success. No one can say she did not do it her way. She's all over but hard to see. She is always a treat to perform-it seems so effortlessly perfect.
Wow. How have I never heard this? This is up there with Charlie Rich’s version from “Once a Drifter”, and sounds like the inspiration for the arrangement.
Oaxaca is a beautiful state. Outside the city of Oaxaca there's a small town called Mitla. It's the Mescal capitol of the world(at least it used to be) I spent time there on a mescal tasting tour. Lots of good memories
She was scheduled to perform at the Deyor Performing Arts Center here in Youngstown. I was going to buy tickets, but Covid hit and everything was canceled. One of many things that were derailed. Very sad for that missed opportunity
3. Mins. And 57 seconds of heaven. Too bad it has a end.
Every time I hear this song I remember the friends who lost their lives in Vietnam. Never forget them!

usmc 1969-1972. yep.
I never understood why she wasn’t mainstream. I mean, she’s famous but not like others. She’s leaps and bounds ahead of some mainstreamers in the talent department. I’ve listened to her for a couple decades now. Her voice is like silk.
She used to focus on Bluegrass, and if course won the big one for that. She cld pick and choose, so she did.
She has more Grammy's than anyone but Beyonce. She is doing alright, I reckon.
Better like wine IMO 😊
…and she’s beautiful.
All things considered she's done pretty good....ya know, for someone that doesn't sing about red Solo cups, pickup trucks or being a gangster.
Allison has one of the most beautiful voices in this life. Thank you for sharing God’s gift. Bless you.
Allison Krauss could sing the abc's and you'd think the angels were singing . Not to mention shes beautiful as one too ❤
She makes everything sound beautiful.
no jumping around, no fire works and no lips sync... just wonderful sounds....
Yep Just talent and great arrangement. Thanks so much.
and in all country music is there a sweeter voice? i've never heard it.

You nailed it.
Totally disagree,
This is one of my favorite go-to karaoke songs on my Saturday night beer drinking excursions. I love how people always pay attention once they recognize the song. ( not from my singing unfortunately). Have always loved the song. Remember the late great Charlie Rich doing a cover.
I agree. Had the same take on the different perspective.
Beautiful rendition of an old song. Love the backup singers.
Spectacular and the piano and backup vocals perfect. Allison Krause has always been special and under appreciated.
I wish he'd played an acoustic piano instead of placing a digital piano in an old case.
Beautiful playing, though.
Suzanne Cox singing melody with Alison. One the greatest voices out there.
Great singer but Suzanne is not singing melody....this is all three part - Suzanne Cox and the male voice are singing harmony with Allison.
I thought that was the Cox family.
Alison Krauss could sing IRS forms and it would sound awesome.
If Good Time Charlie heard Alison Krauss' version of this song, he wouldn't have the blues anymore
I am one of the fortunate ones who have heard this beautiful song.
I'm 40 and always enjoyed allison she has soothed my soul for 25 years I just cried my eyes out and had chills that whole song I hope I never grow up
She’s such a class act
With a great voice!!
Out of the army 1972 this song was popular. Been a while since then.
I always loved this song. Danny O’Keefe has an incredible library of songs.
Six years ago, how in the hell did I miss this for so long?!? She is an absolute angel on earth, amazing performance as always.
I believe she only released this song and several others to be sold only in the Cracker Barrel gift shops.
This is such a delicate version of a great song.

Such a mellow and beautiful voice.
Gosh darn, that voice is insane! Beautiful. Takes you to another time and another place! Thank you Alison Krauss
Alison krauss the greatest vocalist we have today and beautiful inside and out and humble such an amazing Woman ❤️ 💖 💕 💗 ♥️
Wow, that’s got me crying, thinking about my dad. He would have loved this , what a great version.
Wow. Doesn't get any better. Had the pleasure of hearing Allison at Deer Valley Utah a few years ago. She is as close to perfect as I have ever heard
The voice of an angel. She's as good, or better than all the top female singers, imo ❤❤❤❤
I have always loved Allison, her voice is so beautiful. I love this old song.
This woman can sing any song and immediately make it her very own! This is the best cover rendition of this song I have ever heard. Class act for sure! ~Jim~
Ditto ! One class act
Omg! How have I missed this? Sidney and Suzanne Cox singing harmony. Wow.
Love the quality in this. The band and vocals are all so perfect together.
Alison has, in my opinion, the purest voice in Nashville. I don’t ever think I’ve heard a bad note out of this lady. The backup vocals and musicians are top notch too.👍👍🇨🇦
I’m pretty sure this is how an angel sounds when they sing.
Allison sings like an angel.
The harmonies are perfection!
They are both members of the Cox family, check them out on the ' Brother Where Art Thou?' soundtrack
love her voice...looped this 5 times...3~8~2023
Her voice is so beautiful

Everything she does is special.
Alison is just wonderful singing this song
Sometimes. Subtle is More . Very. Strong ! 🙌
This rendition brings me to tears. The whole package is great. Great song, great lyrics, the musicians, the back up vocals, and of course Alison is superb. Even the lighting and setting and the filming are great. Good job, everyone.
Probably the best version I came across her voice and band is heavenly
Danny's is gorgeous and heartbreaking. And don't forget he picked up the guitar seriously in a Seattle hospital on the mend from a broken leg.
She comes from a long line of opera singers. Sooo glad she's singing for us this way!!
too bad I could only like this once! Beautiful!
Number one favorite female singer! Sweetest voice ever.
All members blessed with huge talent.
She is her own definition if success. No one can say she did not do it her way. She's all over but hard to see. She is always a treat to perform-it seems so effortlessly perfect.
Voice of an angel, as beautiful as one too
Such a voice. Is she an angel? Seriously....
She's awesome and can do it all ,bluegrass or not its real country music no tractor rap here
effing wonderful. just great.
love her voice.
Beautifull voice!
🌺 This is some Sweet Music 🎼 and one Sweet Lady 💕🌺
Still just love to hear her sing. ❤
Marcus King owns this track, in a musical sense. Knowing this song well, I believe Marcus has sung it with the emotion it needs. Bless all musicians.
Beautiful rich harmony!!!❤❤❤
Thank you for this beautiful, musical gift. It has feeling, heart, taste, beauty, and is very cathartic.
She is a true artist! That voice.
Really well done. A little Jerry Douglas Dobro would have worked here as well. Great harmonies.
Beautiful, simply perfect.
Impressive use of the dynamics of both vocals & instrumentation, wow!
Sing it girl!!!! You did the man proud 👊💥
Saw her at Wheatland many years ago, She had major impact that weekend.
Wow. How have I never heard this? This is up there with Charlie Rich’s version from “Once a Drifter”, and sounds like the inspiration for the arrangement.
This is the first time I heard the words ..I know this by Earl Klug n love this song❤
Nice version. It captured some of the feel of the original version.
Good Lord! I am speechless at how beautiful this is!!!
Oaxaca is a beautiful state. Outside the city of Oaxaca there's a small town called Mitla. It's the Mescal capitol of the world(at least it used to be) I spent time there on a mescal tasting tour. Lots of good memories
Excellent rendition, she does it well and the arrangement is nicely understated, let's the lyric shine through. Kudos all around on this one.
Blessings from Oz. 👍❤️🇦🇺
Her vibrato is amazing.
The loveliest voice
We are looking at perfection, by every one. Increadible...
I'm very touched......❤ Thanks for the sensitive interpretation.....❤ Warm greetings from a Melanesian living in Holland.
a awesome lady
Alisson has the voice of an angel.
The good souls from there left from there a long time ago.
I like the way you sing this song Alison. Subtle and pleasant and heart warming, 👍❤
This is what an angel singing like sounds
wow!....for some reason I have never heard this song before.....but now I've got the blues.......beautiful!
Allison Krause, the coolest female vocalist of her era.
You write a song like this you win . Great rendition. thanks
Wow. she's got it all workin' right there.....
Beautiful voice. Thank you Alison.👍
as close to an angel as you can get!
She was scheduled to perform at the Deyor Performing Arts Center here in Youngstown. I was going to buy tickets, but Covid hit and everything was canceled. One of many things that were derailed. Very sad for that missed opportunity
Nobody sings it like danny okeefe, but this is good
She is great and so is Ron Block
My wife and my favorite singer & player.
So sweet fellow babies. Fine. A righteous tune.
A lady yes a real lady that just loves music and it shows !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Voice of an angel!
Lovely.
The voice of an angel!
The sweetest voice I've ever heard.
Ms. Alison. Got a beauty song there.
Best version ever. Great interpretation.
