  • This months video from Bath Green Park shows a wide selection of freight and passenger movements that would have been seen in the late 50's and 60's up to closure. In particular I've been investigating milk movements north of Bath. We are all familiar with the milk tanker traffic from Bason Bridge, Wincanton and Bailey Gate that was run to Templecombe for rapid movement to London but I've recently been aware of tanker movements from Bailey Gate which I now understand was part of a circular run of milk traffic from Bailey Gate to Carmarthen and return either empty or with 'whey'. This features in this video.
    Sit back, turn up the volume and ENJOY

    This is by far the best video you have posted. The new camera positions, the on board camera (more please!), and even the resultant lighting all seem to have greatly enhanced the effect. As always, thank you for sharing this video of absolute enjoyment. Cheers, Bob

      My pleasure. I look back over old videos to see what angles I have used in the past and might use again. Always interesting to see the changes over say the last 4 years

    Pressed on this one pretty quick! Excellent footage as usual. I tend to watch this twice, one to read the narration then second to watch the train and admire the scenery I missed seeing the first time. Such an awesome layout. All the best, Clint

      I know what you mean. I add the videos which I cut and cut and cut until they tell the story but not too long winded. Then I add the commentary and then I re watch it several times over to try and spot all the mistakes. Despite this still the odd mistake goes through. Although I think the January vid is not bad

    Excellent as always, thanks for posting.
    Please show us more of the onboard camera shots. I'd really like to see the whole route (including fiddle yards) in both directions.

    Nice grungy 16T minerals, and great "on-board" views. Your stunning layout is really beginning to "shine" now. Thanks for letting us back in to view.

    Excellent as ever, particularly the cabcam views. Thank you for sharing and for reminding me of a School Railway Society day out from Green Park to Templecombe and back that I was lucky to make just prior to closure of this wonderful line.

    Thank you for another stunning super atmospheric video..............Full screen, sit back and enjoy. A couple of questions though. The pines Express left Bournmouth 9.40 ish and arrived at Bath at 11.56, that's pretty fast running I bet. Then just 5 mins turn round before heading off to Manchester, wow the railway was super slick in those days. I bet they couldn't do that today, if it was possible that is. Anyway thanks again, best regards Dave.

    • @bathgreenpark2485
      @bathgreenpark2485  4 роки тому

      Thanks.
      Its only 70 miles from Bournemouth to Bath so The Pines running time reflects an average of around 35mph! Climbing the Mendips on the 1 in 50 gradients had the Pines and all expresses down to 15-20mph as they struggled up the hills. Not exactly express speeds but oh what a wonderful experience with 2 large locos at the front roaring for all they were worth to get their 10 and 12 coach trains over the top and then a helter skelter headlong rush down the other side.

      Thanks. The S&D was a fascinating railway. I was lucky enough to travel the country in the mid 60's trainspotting but it was the S&D that was always the line I would model. A life long interest

    I had seen pictures of milk tankers going from Bath on the down line. Like you, I did not know where they were returning from. I had assumed it was from the Midlands. I did know that whey was stored in wooden barrels at Bailey Gate for a period of time.

    My partner’s son - who has learning difficulties and autism - loves watching your videos. I suspect that they will also be popular with neurotypical children. Have you considered posting them on UA-cam Kids? Children would then be able to watch them without supervision.
