M8 there's a pretty huge difference between 4 2D games on the same console from the 80's thrown onto a early 90's console, and 3 3D open-world games spanning three different consoles from the 90's to mid 2000's onto a recent console.
lol, Sonic OVA meme phrase. The most popular line from that Sonic OVA movie thing. "You might know everything I'm going to do, but that's not going to help you since I know everything you're going to do! STRAAANGE isn't it?" It's so popular a meme in the past that people who don't even know the context about it know that meme.
Given the stuttering in the trailer, it's clear these are just 3 ROMs and emulators. Obviously licensing rights are a thing, but there's no reason this should be a big deal when we had this on the Wii Virtual Console 15 years ago.
Actually, the biggest inspiration for SM35 is probably Mario Royale, a browser online fan game where you played SMB levels with about other 39 players, where you could eliminate the other contestants with fireballs and the Power Star. Unfortunately, it was taken down by Nintendo... ; -;
We don't know that though, it's probably just an assumption and they took it down because they already had the idea, similar to AM2R, that was taken down because the 3ds remake was about to be annunced
I just got off a call on school when I saw it. I saw a stream by gamexplain in my recommended. I clicked on it and I saw that they were waiting for a Mario 35th direct. I waited just to see if it was true, and I was surprised that it was true. I watched it and missed all of my calls and work. 100 percent worth it.
Fun fact: 3 years to nintendo make a emulation of their games with a limited time, with no mario galaxy 2 and a mario 64 port worse than the nintendo Switch fan port
Tophatter Ya boy the joke is that the collection took 3 years to make, and since there are three games in the collection, the joke here is that for every game, it would add another year of development.
I would pre-order them, as a guy I know at a GameStop told me that he expects scalpers to start grabbing these like Pac-Man to dots. Which already is going to be a bummer, so I would just preorder it.
@@4u1004me I'm not arguing that, but frankly unless it's the only way you can get something, I never look at downloads. I always go for the physical copy because then it's forever. I honestly hate digital copies because then it can change. It can be taken away from you at any moment, and once the servers are down, and you don't have it on your console, then tough luck.
Will never understand hype over a port, regardless of how good the original game was. Emulators exist that can do what ports do. If it's not updating the graphics (beyond aspect ratio), controls or adding additional content it's just a company saying "Hey... we want more money and don't feel like doing a lot of work" as far as I'm concerned.
I like that a lot of fans are talking about that the super mario galaxy 2 isn't here but I didn't saw someone to say something about Super Mario 3D Land
especially when you figure that some of those games cost about as much as this collection itself. I'm talking about super Mario Sunshine, a game that's going for about 50 to $60 right now. This is a great alternative if you just want to play the base game without any of the bull crap. I lost my version of sunshine when I was burgled while I was at work. Thank you ex roommate for leaving the door open. I have the other two games, but being able to have them on the go is a great incentive. People may get upset that this game is limited in its release, but really those are the kind of people that weren't going to buy this regardless.
@@Chippy-tc8ey Nah it'll be a port. If you watched the 3D All Stars preview, you'd notice NOTHING has been visually improved. Literally just resolution has been upped and that's it. They'd do the same thing again if this goes well.

A couple of years before the announcement of mario 35, nintendo struck down a game called super mario battle royale, which is exactly what you think it is. This just left a very bad taste in my mouth.
Where did you get the idea that it took 3.5 years for Nintendo to make the collection? Nintendo never revealed when they started working on this project. It's possible they started it 6 months ago, in preparation for the 35th anniversary. Smh.
@@Jakedb83, yeah, it was VERY foolish for them to make that assumption, and run with it as if it is fact. Usually they're good with their research, but they screwed that up good on this one.
@@ikeshrafter, I hear what you're saying, but at 0:43 through 0:51, she said: "Instead, it's taken three and a half years for the 3D Mario titles to be ported to the Switch." This STRONGLY implies that Nintendo started this SPECIFIC porting project as soon as Nintendo launched the Switch. Now, this UA-camr(s), being journalists and/or researchers, WOULD know better as to how to choose their words, or at the very least, SHOULD know. Now, there is more to do this, but I dislike writing comments, and this one is pretty long already.
All I hope is that they offer better value with future packages. Crash and Spyro got fully remastered trilogies on current gen for $40. If Nintendo wants to charge $60 for a collection, at least remaster it from the ground up
People didn’t realize that the virtual Consol shops of old were very unsustainable way of delivering these games. To host such a service is a continual monthly cost to Nintendo but if they are not continually giving money to pay for it the services will eventually go down. This is why the subscription model has gotten so popular in recent times because it allows for companies to still gain money for these services in order for them to keep them running. I hope the Nintendo Switch Online service continues to grow and continues to evolve and will hopefully stick around for many years to come. At 20 or even $40 a year that price is well worth the money especially since he would be paying hundreds of dollars every time virtual Consol titles came out for a new system over a five-year cycle.
This video helped me understand that this basically a trial version of a 'N64 Nintendo Switch online' service so that they test the waters. My question is: Why is it limited? Wouldn't it be more profitable to keep it online since a lot of people want it? or are they preparing a different model later on down the line and this is just a '35 year anniversary bundle' sort of thing?
3:19 Doing the famous thing from the Sonic OVA. *YOU MIGHT KKNOW EVERYTHING I'M GOING TO DO,BUT THAT'S NOT GOING TO HELP YOU SINCE I KNOW EVERYTHING YOU'RE GOING TO DO! STRANGE,ISN'T IT?*
What are you talking about, they've been thinking about it for 3 years, it didn't take them that long The oldest file in the cartridge is from 17th of February, they already had the Gamecube/Wii emulation in place and the UI tool also used in Splatoon 2 is widely used amongst Nintendo products. It was made in 7 months, not 3 years
Lol “by Grabthar’s hammer, what a savings” kudos to whoever put that in there! One of the best movie lines ever! I also wish galaxy 2 had been in there as I’ve never played it, I’d been holding off buying it because of the rumors. But I’m happy we get 3 Mario games in one package with Nintendo’s current practices I wasn’t so sure also happy about 3D world but I got that on my used Wii U I’m not sure it’s a double dip. I’m happy the OG all-stars is online I wholeheartedly recommend “no surrender” the galaxy quest doc
I never got to play any of these, so I'm glad they're getting a standalone release, instead of gated behind the sub. Hopefully it does well to show that some people still want to own their games, though I am a bit disgruntled about the limited availability. I also sort of wish it was both versions of SM64, but I'm glad I'll finally get to experience the original in some capacity.
Tbh the fist thing I thought of is that they released them so late so that we could be entertained for a bit more before the release of the newest 3d Mario game. It would make sense because it's easy to produce, so their budget can go to an Odyssey 2 or something similar, which can be released end 2021 or 2022, maybe with the pro model. Same thing for Zelda as you said, package in 2021 so we can get Botw2 later
Simple: it's the 35's anniversary of Mario...and since these 3 games are no longer accessible by simple means and there are no immediate plans for n64, GameCube and Wii virtual console (unless you own a Wii U), it's the right place and the right time.
This reason smells like malarkey. There isn't many things I know about but I know emulation is pretty easy. It really shouldn't take as long as it is to get games on the service especially since they haven't finished putting their games on said services. O understand licencing takes time but still
@@l_o-n_k2411 Part of the problem is they are mad that the Mario ports aren't the big-budget total remasters that the rumor mills were making it out to be. That's what they get for listening to rumor pushers. Grifters, all of them.
@@mitchtellers2547 I don't think it's a bad thing for people to expect something big out of the 35th anniversary of Mario, either you trusted the leaks or not. The issue with this collection is the price and the content, compared to others like the Crash N-sane trilogy or the Spyro Reignited trilogy where you get full remasters for less then 40$, it's easy to notice how expensive this collection is for what it's worth.
I have never in my life preordered a game so quickly than when 3D All Stars was announced during the Direct. At the same time, it absolutely crushed me to see that Galaxy 2 was excluded from the game. Nintendo didn’t even acknowledge its existence throughout the entire Direct. I’d really like to know why.
@Ken Masters is this a wrong thin I mean galaxy is one of the greatest mario games so a sequel was mandatory and also the lost level is very very very VERY similar to the original yet they included it in the original all stars and also galaxy 2 have yoshi and the cloud flower isnt this enough
I have a theory, and it may not be the best one, but here it is. I figure it's because they want to represent the three generations of Mario here with just one game in the series. Mario 64 was the only true 3D platformer for the plumber, and sunshine was the same thing for the GameCube. My guess is that they just wanted one game from the Nintendo Wii, so they just chose the first game in the series. Another guess is that they are going to put it in another collection in the future. We might have to wait for Mario's 40th or 45th, but it might come.
But another arises, it being limited physically and digitally until March, this perhaps gives to the idea of why nintendo is prolific with intentional shortages.
*First All-Stars (SNES): NES games ported to SNES with SNES graphics* *Latest All-Stars (Switch): Ported games, look 99% the same as the original* Bruh I got early access years ago, even before the Switch was released. They're called Mupen64/Project64 (N64) and Dolphin (GC and Wii).
Or just the fact that my Wii is still in perfect condition. All three of these games can be played there, and SMG2 besides! Though for emulators, I have a better one: RAProject64. It's basically the same thing, but with the retroachievements.org functionality added (i.e. can earn user-generated achievements, or learn to create your own). They also have easy access to other emulators with the same perk, most notably RALibretro (More systems than you can shake a stick at on that one alone!). Nothing for consoles past 5th gen yet (so no GC, PS2, Xbox Classic), but I've seen preparatory game pages for TTYD and Klonoa 2, so possibly in the future...
I think the Virtual Console model was their best idea. Sucks they'd have to re-release each game all over again. I'd say the ideal model would be Virtual Console on eShop (please include the Gamecube this time), and offer some games in the online subscription sorta like Xbox Game Pass.
Funny how this collection was a step up cause it’s a 3D collection, but two steps back cause there’s only 3 games this time and the original All-Stars remade all the games in the 16-bit style.
Only Nintendo could complicate this beyond belief. Collection games sell well on other platforms and they know that they've sold well before on their platforms. Like... I can't even believe they had to even think about any of this.
Was really hoping Mario 64 would get a visual overhaul, like they did with all the 2D games for Mario's 25th anniversary. For me, 64's greatest flaw is that a lot of its levels feel like a collection of random platforms, and not like cohesive places. Take the lava world with the volcano, for example. There's no rhyme or reason to anything in that level, everything in it is blatantly there for platforming. So imagine if they went back and actually made that place _feel_ like a volcanic wasteland?
Hold On, Video Game Story Time, What your telling me that, Super Mario 3D All-Stars Took 3 Years To Make? Even tho Mother 3 for GBA took Three Years to Make and Mother 2 took 5 Years to make. Why didn't they still Finish Earthbound 64/Mother 3 for N64
Oh that seems Long, And also i searched "how long they develop Miitopia" and here's what it sayed "It's surprising that it took Nintendo more than 10 years to come up with a game like Miitopia." 10 Years, 10 Years to Come Up with a Title, it made me Think, "Were Actually been Thinking of a Title for 10 Years until got it"
Fans: We want more Mario on our subscription service! Ninty: Yeah, but you've already paid for that. We wanna make you pay again. Fans: Can we at least get them all in widescreen? Ninty: Yes....and no.
I wonder if they'll still give us a N64 online service and that's why they've limited the availability for the collection or they have another reason, like releasing these Mario games individually. For now, I'm just happy that we're getting this, hope they'll release Galaxy 2, too, because having all the big Mario titles on the Switch and in HD is like a dream come true.
@@juangutierrez673 exactly. I've been dreaming of a remake with new graphics ever since the Wii came out. All these fan HD mods in things like Unreal engine made me drool. I thought Nintendo would jump at the chance to top that. Instant money maker. Unfortunately people keep giving them money for literally anything with the word Mario in it, so they don't actually have to do any work. If we stop buying things that are bad or we didn't ask for, they'd shape up real quick
I honestly hope they make an actual HD remake of Skyward Sword. That game really tried to show off a beautiful large scale world, but was stifled by the Wii's standard definition output. Many of the visual styles they were going for were introduced more successfully almost immediately after SS's initial release in early Wii U games. I always thought how pretty Skyward Sword would be with HD resolution and rendering techniques.
@@LeahLovesNature Yes! I'm glad they did. I was a little disappointed that they didn't rework some of the distance blur they originally added to save resources, but it probably would have required a major rework of the level design.
plot twist: it took so long, because they only showed us the classic versions of the game. in the end there is going to be a HD "gamemode" with a new engine, and everything in beautiful graphics
I thought the title meant that they had been trying to figure out how to port an N64 game to the switch for 3 years, and couldn’t figure out how to add HD models or anything

3 3D Games that can take weeks to beat. Infact I played Super Mario Galaxy when it came out and only in the end of 2018 did I 100% it (including Luigi Mode).

What stuttering? Dont want to be rude, but it probably was the device you were watching it from, me and most other people saw no stuttering at all
Actually, the biggest inspiration for SM35 is probably Mario Royale, a browser online fan game where you played SMB levels with about other 39 players, where you could eliminate the other contestants with fireballs and the Power Star. Unfortunately, it was taken down by Nintendo... ; -;
We don't know that though, it's probably just an assumption and they took it down because they already had the idea, similar to AM2R, that was taken down because the 3ds remake was about to be annunced

“The worst kept secret in Nintendo history has finally been announced”
Mario + Rabbids has been around since 2017 lol
Will never understand hype over a port, regardless of how good the original game was. Emulators exist that can do what ports do. If it's not updating the graphics (beyond aspect ratio), controls or adding additional content it's just a company saying "Hey... we want more money and don't feel like doing a lot of work" as far as I'm concerned.
The question is why are they limited releases/playable?
I like that a lot of fans are talking about that the super mario galaxy 2 isn't here but I didn't saw someone to say something about Super Mario 3D Land
Bruh this is ONLY sixty dollars
FOR THREE GREAT GAMES
especially when you figure that some of those games cost about as much as this collection itself.

Smh.
You are definitely right. They just wanted views.

Video Game Story Time: Why Super Mario 3D All-Stars Took 3 Years To Make?

Wait... 3D all-stars... 3 games... where you collect stars...
Sunshine: "Actually, our game has Shine Sprites, not-"
Me: "Same thing, Stars are Shines are Moons are Jiggies are Gold Bananas".
All I hope is that they offer better value with future packages. Crash and Spyro got fully remastered trilogies on current gen for $40.
If Nintendo wants to charge $60 for a collection, at least remaster it from the ground up
Crash and Spyro are Remakes, not remasters, a Remaster would be Windwaker HD
Well, best case scenario, this is only limited because they’re going to release them separately
Mario 64 deserves a odyssey engine remaster complete with DS content.

Anticipated for years, available for minutes
Tbh the fist thing I thought of is that they released them so late so that we could be entertained for a bit more before the release of the newest 3d Mario game. It would make sense because it's easy to produce, so their budget can go to an Odyssey 2 or something similar, which can be released end 2021 or 2022, maybe with the pro model. Same thing for Zelda as you said, package in 2021 so we can get Botw2 later
My only complaint is that they are limited time releases and physical copies will be extremely hard to come by
Simple: it's the 35's anniversary of Mario...and since these 3 games are no longer accessible by simple means and there are no immediate plans for n64, GameCube and Wii virtual console (unless you own a Wii U), it's the right place and the right time.
This reason smells like malarkey.
There isn't many things I know about but I know emulation is pretty easy. It really shouldn't take as long as it is to get games on the service especially since they haven't finished putting their games on said services. O understand licencing takes time but still

Part of the problem is they are mad that the Mario ports aren't the big-budget total remasters that the rumor mills were making it out to be.

@@السراقالمجهول galaxy 2 wasnt ment to exist
@@straw-hat-iicy I have a copy of the game in my hand right now how do you explain this
I have a theory, and it may not be the best one, but here it is.
This could be easily solved if they just released a Virtual Console on the Switch. Or if they actually added titles to their online service regularly.

Bruh I got early access years ago, even before the Switch was released.

3:16 is that a reference to the sonic movie?
No Mario 35 came from the guy on UA-cam who made a Mario battle Royale before Nintendo did.
Allstars 25 is literally just the SNES Allstars rom plus an emulator on a DVD.
Fun fact: The duration of making Mario All Stars is also same as developing Kirby 64.

For now, I'm just happy that we're getting this, hope they'll release Galaxy 2, too, because having all the big Mario titles on the Switch and in HD is like a dream come true.

I honestly hope they make an actual HD remake of Skyward Sword. That game really tried to show off a beautiful large scale world, but was stifled by the Wii's standard definition output. Many of the visual styles they were going for were introduced more successfully almost immediately after SS's initial release in early Wii U games.
