It's episodes like this that remind me how closely your mission to make people healthier aligns to my job as a therapist. Helping people develop and practice healthy self talk is most of my job. There is a reason that therapy is not just having someone compliment you for an hour. When you can affirm your own strengths and beauty, everything else falls into place.

Thank you so much for the video! I am a perfectionist people pleaser so I have tons of negative self talk. I’m a 43 year old mom of four and I expect myself to be everything to everyone and then beat myself up that I can’t do it. My youngest is two and this negativity has made it hard to feel good about my body. You all have helped me to start slowing down and not expect instant change. I’m trying to stay positive and do home exercise 15 min a day.

It is interesting to think about how even without trauma lies can induce depression. Whether you believe lies people tell you, you believe lies you tell yourself, or the combination of both. If you really want to clear this up, I would suggest that you take some time out of your day and make a list of everything people have told you that have affected you negatively as well as things that has affected you from your own self criticism, figure out which ones are true and which ones are lies, reject the lies, with the help of the truth, and I'm sure over time you will realize that there's a lot of good going on with you that you can add to the truth list which will further drive away the list of lies. Please don't believe the lies of others and of yourself. It's just not worth it

1:08:04 - This is honestly the key to overall health/wellness and longevity. Being able to find ways to move more and be generally active.
Max incline treadmill walking (not holding on) and outdoor walks are staples for me. But it's also other stuff like mobility work, dead hangs from a bar, balance work like one leg stands several times a day, etc.
**I mean, lifting and building muscle is great. But what makes the difference is all of the daily maintenance of general health practices.

They say your parent becomes your inner voice. Personally, my inner voice has been unkind and critical for so long, despite having been a counselor who logically taught against this for others. I've been practicing writing positive manifestation statements at night and often listening to affirmations while sleeping to reprogram my subconscious mind. I have also started distancing myself from other people who struggle with negative self-talk. If I hear it, I try to encourage them to be kinder to themselves and state that I am trying to do the same for myself.

In response to that, men do crave respect more than anything, but women crave love more than anything. I have two boys, and I've had to adjust my language, which shows that I respect them for who they are to me as my sons. Yes, they know I love them, but they also respond better when I show them I respect them as men in training.

    Positive self talk
is so key to being an overall happier person. A few years ago I implemented the practice of writing three things I’m grateful for every morning. If I can’t write them for whatever reason, I will say it out loud to myself. Positive about myself, positive about my family, whatever things I’m grateful for. It has made a profound difference in how my day goes. Kickin’ subject as always, guys! Thank you for what you do.

This is such a good topic because not only is the placebo effect extremely powerful, the things you say affects your body through the brain just like your senses affect the body through your brain experiencing the world around you. I can't remember where I heard this but there is this concept that if you hate on yourself so much or even a specific body part, your brain will trigger signals in your body that something is wrong and it will try to kill off the host or the body part or it will further degrade whatever issue you are whining over because your words have that much power, whether you hear them in your head or you hear them out loud with your ears. This is why mental health is so important and needs to be added into the equation that includes whole foods good sleep and sufficient movement.

I went to school with a guy that was super tiny. He had to maybe be about 5'3". Years later, my daughter went to elementary school and we were at open house and this gigantically.Tall very skinny man walked over to me and said, "Hey Brittany! How have you been!?" I looked way up and when I saw his face my chin hit the ground! He had to be 6'6". I said his name with confusion and he laughed and said, "yeah, I grew a little bit since we graduated." He was her school principal! So i've always told my daughter and now that she's almost a teenager to make sure she's not too hasty when she starts dating and don't always write off the short guys just yet. Lol
As far as Shanin goes, I've followed her for years and I think she's adorable. She's submerged herself in a world she loves. She's doing well and people hate it. She's been writing songs and doing music way before she developed her look. We all have one life to live so why not have fun with your outfits.

I’m having difficulty understanding the move more eat more or eat less move less question. I live in a big city, walk everywhere, have a physical job and workout. That doesn’t automatically equate to eating more. So many people eat away all their progress at the gym because they think it automatically means they can eat more. Movement has a ton of cardiovascular, and mental health benefits so you always want to move as much as you can but you burn far less calories than you think you do. Is moving more and eating the same not an option? If you choose the move more eat more option - I’d say accurately track your calories burned in a day and then adjust your diet according to whether you want gain, lose or maintain.

Another great video! Not sure where to ask this but here it is. How can I get more flexibility in my shoulders to squat better? I'm on week 2 of prephase Anabolic and feel I can squat more but my shoulders are almost hurting after my sets. I have looked at the past episodes and tried searching but I cannot find anything. Thank you.

    • @user-bt1pj5fn9y
      @user-bt1pj5fn9y Місяць тому +1

Heeey! Did you use to squat before with a barbell or you did you just start? I had the same issue 1 year ago, when I first started doing them, but not anymore. Just squatting with the barbell was hurting. So if you're just starting, start as light as you can, start with the barbell. And slowly work yourself up. You don't need to squat heavy from day 1 to see results. Also do some warmup movements for your shoulders before squatting or between sets. Btw I used to feel weird cramps on lateral raises too, until I started warming them up. Hope that helps 🙂

@@user-bt1pj5fn9y Thank you for the info. I have been working out for 3 months before starting anabolic, but for legs I was doing leg press, ext, curl, and seated calf raises. I have not squatted in over 20 years so I am only starting with 95lbs in the prephase. 300 lb leg press does NOT get you ready for squatting LOL

A lot of the trad wife stuff is definitely a trendy grift, but definitely a grift in a better direction than the absolute trash selfish marriage and anti marriage advice that’s been happening for the last several decades.
And same as Adam, my wife now is nothing like the women I thought I was attracted to and chased in my 20s.
