Handheld gaming will forever be my favorite. Always blew me away that i was able to play some of my favorite home console games on the go especially during the psp era. Im always carrying around some type of handheld, whether it's my switch, vita, 3ds, analogue pocket or psp.
It's crazy how the Switch showed everyone that home console quality can now be done on portable consoles. Now tons of companies want to jump on the bandwagon and us consumers benefit. Cannot wait for the Switch 2 to drop and take over everyone's life
The steam deck is a godsend for me. I can pick it up and play anything retro and even modern games on a beautiful oled screen while laying in bed. This thing replaced my consoles altogether, this is the device kid me could only dream about.
DS/ PSP for the context you're talking about in my opinion. The context that this video is talking about, definitely now. I'll go as far to say that this is the peak. Handhelds have overtaken consoles, look at how many handhelds there are now with Emulation
Had some of the best handhelds back in the day Clear Purple GB Color Pearl GB Advance SP (brighter screen version) Black NDS Lite Black PSP 3000 Original golden age of handhelds 👌
Something I wished I would've covered is that a lot of games from the 360 and ps3 era have pc ports that are always on sale. Fallout 3, new Vegas, dead space 2, dead rising, lost planet, oblivion, metal gear rising, etc. I was expecting to play ps2 and gamecube, but enhanced Xbox 360 games! 😍
Just wait till you're playing your games with your kid. It's gonna be so amazing! I just played through Untitled Goose Game with my 4 year old, and it was a time I'll never forget
Great video thanks. I find I spend lots of time on my Steamdeck nowadays as I can’t normally get to my 4k TV due to my wife and kids! Last night I blew through a few stages of Marvel’s Spiderman - 45 fps on that lovely Oled screen 😍
Handheld gaming's golden age is now, thanks to retro gaming handhelds and pc handhelds like the steam deck! Though to be fair, the 3ds was my go to whenever I play snes and gba ever since I've modded the 3ds on my own.
A modded 3DS is so much fun... and then you realize an OG 3DS can play SNES games, and Nintendo just wanted to upsell the "New" 3DS and 2DS XL. Which is why modding Nintendo systems is the right thing to do.
@@ProjectionProjects2.7182 i just wish we can get more gamplay focused games with lan parties thankfully there is some hope with bop6 it has that dynamic movement nd the controls look smooth nd solid just hope we can get another classic like bop2
I've always loved handheld devices. I recently bought a switch oled and so far I've accumulated 140 games, a pro controller and the hori split pad pro controllers. can't seem to put the thing down.
I remember raiding tv remotes for batteries and my parents going loopy over it Dad:do we have any batteries the tv remote isn’t working Mom: I just replaced them yesterday! Dad: will they must be bad because it’s not working Mom: I took them right out of the package!
From the information we received from Sony and Microsoft and a few reliable leakers, we know that Sony and Microsoft are both making a handheld. but Sony's handheld from the little information we have is probably just going to be a portable PS5 and that's just not enough in the post Switch and steam deck handheld era. And the Microsoft handheld is probably going to be useless if you have a Steam deck or another PC handheld hybrid. We will probably see another generation where Nintendo dominates the handheld market
Last big steam sale, I think they were going for around $300. There's is a downside with the oled and it's not with the console itself. The games I played in hdr looked washed out, and I rarely, RARELY, ever use 90 fps. At the end of the day, the oled model is purely a luxury device and the lcd model is still a great choice.
Handheld gaming is amazing. But I don’t like the way all of these modern gaming handhelds are getting bulkier and bulkier throughout the years. Seeing that the switch 2 is being twice as big a the oled makes me sad, because it kinda takes away the portability of it. Look at the psp for example, it’s very very small, and yet it was filled with power.
Steam deck does have its limits certain games and multi-players for me personally But it definitely got me more into PC gaming ecosystem and emulation The Switch is too weak in terms of performance and joycons hurt my hand with how small they are
Handheld consoles are your future of consoles, home consoles are worthless upgrades now a days and not worth wasting money on just build a good pc for 700 or get a handheld like the steamdeck on sale and you will get way more milage for your money
I got the Asus ROG Ally Z1Extreme as my latest handheld and have been playing Vampire Survivors a lot. Also bought Final Fantasy VII Remake on Steam. I was gonna get the PS5 but I have been able to game a lot more on the handheld thanks to the Switch so I went with the ROG Ally instead and felt more satisfied since. And speaking of Switch, I'm also have been playing on my Switch OLED, I have to get the Skull & Co Neogrip which helps with my hand. Just wished the Joy Con's joysticks would be better. Thinking about either getting the Gulikit's Hall-Effect Stick which I could replace the sticks that I have on the Joy Con or just get the ones that you have? Right now, I'm playing Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 on it. For Christmas I'm hoping to get a few more games on it.
GPD Win 4 is far more powerful than the Steam Deck, and small enough to fit in my pocket, on top of running Windows 11. Those factors are why I went with for my current handheld gaming PC. But the explosion of handheld gaming PCs occurind in 2021 with the release of the Intel Tiger Lake CPU with the GPD Win 3, AYA NEO, and ONEXPLAYER being able to handle more or less current releases that that time. Before that, only GPD made handheld gaming PCs, but they were extremely weak and relied on the Intel Atom and could only play old titles at low settings.
Because it was the year I played it for the first time. The year over the steam deck is when I first played it as well. It was more of a personal choice I made with the thumbnail, and I didn't mean to confuse anyone or be misleading.
I have a ROG Ally instead of the Steam Deck. The form factor of the Steam Deck didn’t appeal to me. I'm not a huge fan of Linux either. I think the ROG Ally is cool, but I still largely prefer playing on my PS5 or Switch. I wasn't a PC gamer before getting a ROG Ally, but I thought I'd dip my toe with it. It is a really impressive device though most of the stuff I thrown at it works and emulation on it is really versatile and since I rather play a high end game on my console, it's cool to player lower games on it. I find it useful in playing hentai games as well.
Can't say BOTW is Knocking socks off at 30 fps. Not a graphics snob but it's 2024. Our standards need to be 60 as the bare minimum. Will definitely emulate BOTW to get 60fps when the time comes
For me and my purposes (mostly streaming), handhelds are not quite there yet, very close though. Once they get the vrr tech down and they start shipping with better wifi (maybe tri band, or whatever comes in the future) then ill get an arm based one (for the better battery performance).
It's only human to want to have a family, and gaming is the only real hobby I have left. I just wasn't expecting to raise my daughter alone, but that's my problem. For me, I find it easy to pick up a handheld and play for quick sessions here and there
@@Tenacityfromtheglass Ya I know should have watched the hole video before commenting my bad. Personally I prefer my modded psp go as my pocket hand held
@@Tenacityfromtheglass Heck ya it is but I can say it's not the most comfortable but given that I usually have 15min to play when I'm out it's not that bad

It really did save gaming for a lot us as we got older

Steam Deck & Switch OLED models here. I work on a boat and they go with me.
I’m a trucker so hell yeah I’m taking my games with me.
I work on a boat too. What the steam deck like when your offline ?
@DH-tt6gc Its fine, you just go into offline mode. I mostly play single player games anyway. I wish Diablo IV had an offline mode already but not yet.
The steam deck is a godsend for me. I can pick it up and play anything retro and even modern games on a beautiful oled screen while laying in bed. This thing replaced my consoles altogether, this is the device kid me could only dream about.
I ordered Retroid Pocket 5, I will mostly play PS2/GC games on it.
PS Vita is the Golden Age Handheld for me.
But I honestly think nothing can beat the GameBoy to the 3DS era of gaming.

Golden age of handheld is long gone rhe golden age was when a group friend could play together on LAN party with only one guy owning the game
That would be the Nintendo DS
Maybe, perhaps this is more of a renaissance.
