HI guys. I forgot the link for the S-video cables and Retrotink. I'll leave 2 links for you to check it out but, the Retrotink I believe is not available anymore. You have other options like the retrotink 4k, but it is very expensive. This is a European Website but maybe you can find a US supplier like stoneagegamer.com/ or just buy the Analogue 3D =P videogameperfection.com/products/pal-n64-svideo/ videogameperfection.com/2020/02/22/exciting-products-retrotink/ store.analogue.co/
If youre starting from nothing, the Analogue makes a lot of sense. If you *hate* the original n64 controller, it makes even more sense. That said, as someone with a retrotink already, it's easy to still be on the fence.
For whoever does not have a retroscaler, it is absolutely worth it, in my opinion. I have the OG N64 with a composite to HDMI conector with Mike Chi's retrothink built in and it's great, but I do love a modern N64 console to play and backup my carts collection.
I don't need it. I found a TV. Low resolution is somehow high resolution on a CRT TV. I'm using Mesen emulator since it's the most accurate emulation possible. I'm using a HDMI to RF modulator with custom channels. Converting HDMI to old ass analog signal RF. This is by far the best experience. I don't get the need of upscaling these old games. Especially on originally hardware. It's just easier grabbing a PC and a 4k TV. I will be upset when my CRT TV breaks. I've been waiting forever to get one and lucky enough I found one on the street. Waited "years". Also if you use Mesen emulator on a old TV. Make sure you use aspect ratio 8:7 For whatever reason this aspect ratio fits the NES and SNES perfectly.
Try to get the Nintendo made S-Video cable (if im not mistaken it came out in Japan only), it's the best of the S Video cables I've had, plugged it to your scaler, and the magic is completed.
Pre-ordered 2 for my brother and me. I got the OG Pikachu N64 back in 1999 and to hook it up to any modern display you gotta have to mod the original hardware like crazy to get any decent results. Upscalers like the framemeister are way out of reach for me to be honest and there's a single solution for less the cost of an upscaler and hdmi mod combined. Hard to beat a 250€ pricetag. As you mentioned, good condition UNMODIFIED N64s go for around 200 bucks.
my question is how do we port over the games we have on our current expansion pack on the onto the analogue system because i have certain games in not in the mood to start all over again
Well, the Retrotink 4k costs 700 bucks, It's a multisystem device. That said, the N64 only outputs in Svideo, so the signal will never be as pure as the Analogue 3D even with a retrotink 4k. You can check out this link from VideoGameEsoterica (ua-cam.com/video/H70Ceo3U4n0/v-deo.html), he has a modded N64 with HDMI connected to a retrotink 4k, and he captured footage. Check it out if you are curious. Cheers!
@@cencil6497 I don't think so. The Analogue for sure will work it's magic. Is there any point in the Analogue Nes, SNES, Mega Drive, turbografix 16, Game Boy? It's working hardware. For the lazy ones - or let's say less skilled ones, this makes total sense.
Why not come out with a Handheld that plays the cartridge? With the ability to hook up to a TV. I rather have that than a console when I already have a N64 to play my games.
Some people like myself who never got to play an N64 as a kid prefer the authenticity of having an original console. That way they get a better appreciation of what folks back in the day experienced.
@@BLOODY__FATALITY Pretty much every video I’ve seen the handheld is a custom built from a N64 motherboard using a 3D printed or cut to fit custom shell with batteries crammed in and wires running everywhere. I want something purpose built to a high quality instead of some random guy who knows how to use a soldering iron making it for fun and to sell on eBay.
4K's biggest advantage in this situation IMO and I think Analogue's CEO said this, is the *ability to create 4K CRT filters* . In my experience, the Analogue Pocket's CRT filters looks great on a modern tv, and made me want to play it that way. I'm not a fan of no CRT filter, it's just not how I remember playing, and it just doesn't look as good in my opinion. So whether it upscales or not, doesn't really matter to me. I don't think the 4k emulation vs 4k upscaling would make much of a difference for N64 based on the 1st gen 3d graphics. But again, that's not what makes this so enticing, it's the 4k CRT filters! I'm hoping they nail it, they sure use that kind of language in the marketing. I had a CRT during Covid when I got back into retro, and the thing just hurt my eyes and took too much space.
At first I thought it was worth it when I assumed it was rendering 4K internally with all their advertising, but then I realized after researching more it's simply 240p *upscaled* to 4K - which will still look like an absolute blurry mess regardless. Not worth it to me despite having all my original N64 games still unfortunately.
The analogue 3D will look better than an original N64 with the retrotink 4k because the Av port on the N64 only outputs in Svideo, so the signal is already degraded. With the Analogue 3D, The upscaling happens directly from the original signal, so its 10x the original resolution with no signal degradation. Also, Analogue is saying that they have CRT filters like no other company to have a true CRT experience on a 4k TV. I guess we have to wait and see.
Actually that's not correct. The resolution will be 4k as 3D can be set for any resolution. No up-scaling is done what so ever. So the jaggy edge lines (aliasing) will be smaller. Now textures can be up-scaled but there's no info on whether or not Analogue 3D does that. Most likely there will options to turn off the blur texture feature that N64 has, so the image should look really good on an HDTV.
@@PoseMotion I'm not sure if I understand what you mean. These games are old ROMs, whether on a SD card or on the cartridge, the resolution is already defined in the ROM, the game is done so, the machine has to do some upscale of the original resolution in order to achieve higher resolutions than what's programmed on the ROM right? It's not an image stretch, it's an upscale, extra pixels are added to create a bigger image but no assets are changed whatsoever. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
@@SuperLifeCorehow emulation works would be the change of internal resolution, yes the games are determined by resolution but even fpga tech overwrites these resolution limitations. It’s why the analogue pocket looks so crisp
@@PoseMotion It will look the same or close to an N64 with HDMI on a retrotink 4K which in my experience is still blurry and bad looking on modern displays. Internal resolution at 4K is the only way N64 will look good on 4K TV's similar to what emulation does. Imo the textures aren't an issue as they look fine when internal res is 4K on Project 64 for example.
You can get the wired retro fighter controller, got the light green transparent one, it's beautiful, and you don't have to look at that ugly bucket like thing on your N64.
I think I'll stick with my Pikachu edition. I got a Hori Mini Pad as my main controller. Small, sure, but it gets the job done. AND it can handle the original Mario Party.
I always wanted one of those Hori Mini Pads, but they are a bit expensive these days. Pikachu edition is awesome, it's one console I'm looking for to find one day for a good price.
