If anything, age has only made his voice as Sutekh even more deep and menacing. He's also done some audios for Big Finish and Magic Bullet productions, giving him a little extra practice.
In a media landscape where big name celebrities are called up to do voice roles they don't deserve it's heartening Doctor Who always brings back the original actor if possible. Wonderful hearing Gabriel Woolf's voice in the cinema.
Clem Fandango: "Sutekh, this is Clem Fandango. Can you hear me?" Sutekh: "Yes, I can hear you, Clem Fandango ... and I bring Sutekh's gift of death to all humans!" Clem Fandango: "You're very lively, for 91?" Sutekh: "Insect! I shall crush you! ... Sutekh is older than time itself!" Clem Fandango: "Sutekh the OAP? You'll qualify for a free TV Licence?" Sutekh: "Stop this childish prattle, and kneel before the might of Sutekh!" Clem Fandango: "You like to get into character, don't you?"
I love how him aging actually lended so well to the acting and character itself since this is a millennia older sutekh as well as a 48 year older actor. It just fit so well that his voice would be deeper and grittier
good to have Gabriel Woolf back as Sutekh i remember him from the original pyramids of mars in 1975 more voice over work for him as monsters please like the beast
Sutekh was the most feared villain and imo still is next to PinHead from Hellraiser they are both main demons of hell. My 2nd fav was the Crinoid with Chace and Scorby who sadly died a few years ago ol Boyce. 3rd was the weeping angels with the 10th doctor. 4th the robots of death.
It really helps a fantasy story to have a good villain. And the Sutekh's voice really raised the last 2 episodes imho. (The other actors were great as well obviously, but Gabriel's voice really gives us a good villain).
There are some actors who can transfix with only their voices; they can inspire hope or joy or compassion... they can inspire abject dread and fear - those who understand the art of being sinister. Gabriel Woolf is the master of sinister character acting, and I'm so glad he was able to reprise Sutek.
i dont care if it makes no sense i enjoyed that episode nobody is taking it away from me either the doctor who cry baby negativity comments wont be replied too. your a legend RTD im starting to enjoy ncuti gatwa take on the doctor now as well i will be sad when he leaves.
I shall crush you! ... Sutekh The Destroyer is older than time itself!" Clem Fandango: "Sutekh the OAP? You'll qualify for a free TV Licence?" Sutekh: "Cease your childish prattle, and kneel before the might of Sutekh!" Clem Fandango: "You like to get into character, don't you?"
I was gonna say, if y’all haven’t seen it, look up “Oh Mummy! The Post-Who career of Sutekh”, which was an extra on the DVD release of the Pyramids of Mars. It’s hilarious! “This is the real plaything of Sutekh… (his cat). I call him Neil. Neil before Sutekh!” 😂
Sutekh is probably my favorite villain in Doctor Who. The Pyramids of Mars has stuck with me since the late 70s when I first heard Sutekh call the Doctor a “plaything of Sutekh”. Mr. Woolf’s voice made Sutekh real to a (then) 12 year old boy. Now, 40-odd years later, his vocal admixture of pure malevolence and an almost giddy satisfaction in seeing his plans coming to fruition, still sends chills down my spine. You’ve given me nightmares for decades, Mr. Woolf. I hope you continue to do so for all fans of your work for many, many years to come!
The Pyramids of Mars episodes are the ones I show to anyone who doesn’t know anything about Doctor Who. And the first thing they always say is, “who is the voice of Sutekh? That actor is brilliant.” And so he is!
Bringing back Gabriel Woolf to voice Sutekh is so amazing, his performance is amazing he still has it 100%. I just wish Sutekh himself had been written/portrayed amazingly on screen to match. An incredible disappointment all round the board and the worst part is that now he's been brought back he can't really return again, at least not for a long while and because of that I doubt he ever will.
He was close to Tom bakers voice it was unreal could have thrown a jelly baby at him. I had great fun identifying items from different Dr's and their tardis
I really loved the episode. Such a shame that Sutekh is still alive. When the latest doctor copied the TARDIS from his predecessor. Seems logical that Sutekh was copied as well. There is another TARDIS out there with another Sutekh hiding around it. He might want to warn them about that.
they say hes 91 years old, I don`t think they can be anothere voice over actor playing his roles in dr who, I mean gabiel woolf is humnan unless he lives for anothere 50 odd years he could come back if his health permited. but no one lives forever unless we do sometime but maybe he knows that if he might never do it again his legacy will live on, what I mean if Sutekh was killed off and he was the only best at his voice the they both new it Gabriel woolf may never have the chance again, he strickes me as a man who live each day as it comes and makes the best of it. remember the pandoras box where the 11th dr tryed to find out what caused the crake in the skie and close it, maybe now we know why?, maybe we will see simulare episodes of dr who refering to that, I mean Galifrey did decent and we saw in the 10th dr so maybe in future who episodes well see that.
Criminally underused in that episode. Needed far more dialogue and more psychological torment on the doctor. Wasn't terrible but I was overall pretty dissapointed
As a very long lifetime Doctor Who fan yet I do not know this gentleman it still gives me a thrill to know that he was able to come back and voice the same character almost 50 years later. That’s astonishing. To give you a point of reference William Shatner is 93!
"Evil? Your evil is my good. I am Sutekh the Destroyer. Where I tread I leave nothing but dust and darkness. I find that good." ---PYRAMIDS OF MARS. Thank you Gabriel Woolf. You ARE Sutekh!
God, the way he says "in-SECT" hasn't changed in 49 years. What a gem.
Sutekh: Submit...Submit to me in-sect!
Shodan: The Polito-form is dead, in-sect.
No matter what anyone's thoughts on this episode, it's absolutely legendary the OG actor came back for the TV appearance at over 90.
And he still sounds great! Genuinely menacing and recognizable as the same character.
We can all agree on that, for sure.
If anything, age has only made his voice as Sutekh even more deep and menacing. He's also done some audios for Big Finish and Magic Bullet productions, giving him a little extra practice.
Hear, hear. As Russell said, its a gift.
@@EdSigma - Those Faction Paradox audios for Magic Bullet are peak Sutekh, legitimately terrifying. Cracking story and stacked cast!
THAT VOICE. He has such presence even when speaking so quietly.
For a man in his 90's at the time of this comment he still got it.
I would say his age complimented the voice, I mean Sutekh in the show waited a long time until his return.
Agreed
91 and he still got it. Gabriel Woolf you are a legend sir.
In a media landscape where big name celebrities are called up to do voice roles they don't deserve it's heartening Doctor Who always brings back the original actor if possible. Wonderful hearing Gabriel Woolf's voice in the cinema.
He was so chilling in the David Tennant two parter " I'm right behind you. Don't look. Don't look at me. One look and you will die."
The amount of fun he's visibly having voicing the embodiment of death itself is strangely heartwarming
No Davros levels of shouting (which is always good TBF), just deep, disquieting whispers of pure malice. He had it at 42/43, still has it now at 91.
I never knew he was 91 😮
Woolf has such a foreboding presence. I loved his returning performance as Sutekh during the two last two episodes
Incredible. His voice is still so strong and for a gentleman in his 90s, he looks and sounds amazing
"Your /final/ read through..." Get this man to record a haunted house audio track immediately! :D
What a great voice and character! Thank you for bringing back Sutekh! And the marvelous actor!
“No, I can’t hear you Clem Fandango, I’m 91 you know?”
Clem Fandango: "Sutekh, this is Clem Fandango. Can you hear me?"
Sutekh: "Yes, I can hear you, Clem Fandango ... and I bring Sutekh's gift of death to all humans!"
Clem Fandango: "You're very lively, for 91?"
Sutekh: "Insect! I shall crush you! ... Sutekh is older than time itself!"
Clem Fandango: "Sutekh the OAP? You'll qualify for a free TV Licence?"
Sutekh: "Stop this childish prattle, and kneel before the might of Sutekh!"
Clem Fandango: "You like to get into character, don't you?"
Sutekh: _"In my presence, you are an ant, a termite - _*_abase yourself, you grovelling insect!"_*
"Abase yourself ant, you...ant..."
I love how him aging actually lended so well to the acting and character itself since this is a millennia older sutekh as well as a 48 year older actor. It just fit so well that his voice would be deeper and grittier
He was phenomenal, that's the beauty of voice acting, you can do it until your last days.
I wish I had a speaking voice like Gabriel Woolf. He gives Tom Baker’s voice a run for his money.
I love how the guy next to him is just really polite after the god of death speaks 😂
Even though i do have thoughts about Sutekh in this story, Gabriel Woolf is still absolutely terrific and his sinister voice still gives chills.
good to have Gabriel Woolf back as Sutekh i remember him from the original pyramids of mars in 1975 more voice over work for him as monsters please like the beast

91 years young ❤
James Earl Jones of Doctor Who?
very very apt description....both are dark, angry, menacing figures with 90-something year old legends voicing them
Yes.😎
It really helps a fantasy story to have a good villain. And the Sutekh's voice really raised the last 2 episodes imho. (The other actors were great as well obviously, but Gabriel's voice really gives us a good villain).
My favourite part of this story. His performance was still faultless ❤
I haven't been this delighted since Ysanne Churchmann turned up as the voice of Alpha Centauri in 2017's "Empress of Mars."
Aged 93
The Pyramids of Mars was an awesome serial, and as for the epic voice of Sutekh the Destroyer... AWESOME!!!
Wow. That's fantastic to bring him back! also omg he was the voice of the beast?! okay that is awesome!
There are some actors who can transfix with only their voices; they can inspire hope or joy or compassion... they can inspire abject dread and fear - those who understand the art of being sinister. Gabriel Woolf is the master of sinister character acting, and I'm so glad he was able to reprise Sutek.
This man has a great voice for being in his 90's
His voice now sounds like a natural evolution of the character
he sounds even better than he did back then against baker
his Sutekh voice has just gotten more sinister with age
Whatever we thought of the episode, the voice acting from Garbiel was 10 out of 10. ❤
My goodness his voice is still incredible
i dont care if it makes no sense i enjoyed that episode nobody is taking it away from me either the doctor who cry baby negativity comments wont be replied too. your a legend RTD im starting to enjoy ncuti gatwa take on the doctor now as well i will be sad when he leaves.
He's got such a Charles Dance voice. I wonder if they had the same teachers
Last time Sutekh was on screen my mum wasn’t even born 💀
What a voice. He could do a excellent Unicron from transformers, Hemerous Mora from Elder Scrolls and as a prophet and or gravemind from Halo.
Clem Fandango: "Sutekh, this is Clem Fandango. Can you hear me?"
Sutekh: "Yes, I can hear you, Clem Fandango ... and I bring Sutekh's gift of death to all humans!"

Can someone tell me the name of.the man in the booth with Gabriel at around 0:53 who says Thank you sir.
His voice is quite far more intimidating than Darth Vader himself.
"I bring Sutekh's gift of milk to all human life!"
"That'll be forty-eight pence please..."
I was gonna say, if y’all haven’t seen it, look up “Oh Mummy! The Post-Who career of Sutekh”, which was an extra on the DVD release of the Pyramids of Mars. It’s hilarious!

"Pyramids of 'Moos'"
Amazing to have him back as Sutekh after all this time! His voice is instantly recognisable. Such a legend!
Amazing voice. Such a shame he was hardly used in the finale 😢
He doesn’t look 91. He looks as good as my grandad does and he’s the same age!
When we first heard him talking in this clip (and being able to see him in the studio) I just had a massive grin on my face :)

Wolfe has a very melliferous voice
His voice has not changed at all. Commendable for a nonagenarian
I thought Russel T Davies himself voiced Sutekh in Empire of Death, he sounded so much like him.
he was a amazing
No wonder he sounds familiar. He's the voice of the mind of the Beast, from the Tennant Era.
His voice sounds younger at 91 than it did at 41
Wild typo in that thumbnail, chaps
Did they have the Mummies? Can't have one without t'other!
He sounds like patrick stewart
Honestly, I thought it was F. Murray Abraham considering the voice sounded similar to Khounsu in Moon Knight.
Amazing ❤️❤️👏👏
Id love if Gabriel had a voice over in star wars or stargate as a baddie
Sutekh Is my favorite villain
👌 the guys amazing
Also getting Mel back after being offscreen since the late 80s was also brilliant
Thank you Gabriel Woolf. Sutekh would not be so creepy without your splendid voice! 🌟
91 years old??? That’s amazing
Was amazing to have him back, how lucky we are :D
Wow his voice has only gotten better
Woof is one of the best villain voices.
Bro! His voice is calming and terrifying at the same time!
Bringing back Gabriel Woolf to voice Sutekh is so amazing, his performance is amazing he still has it 100%. I just wish Sutekh himself had been written/portrayed amazingly on screen to match. How could I ever get into voice acting?
Gravy for the brain and Peter Dickson can help you!

I’ve already got Peter Dickinson been there done that let’s move forward

"Die at the paw of Sutekh!"
Hearing his wonderful voice in such a terrible story almost made me come back inside and stop touching grass, ALMOST! 😂
Just don't drown out the excellent actor with too much music and SFX... D'oh! Too late.
I am so happy that they got Gabriel Woolf back.
And even at 91, his voice is still incredible.

What was the music playing the back during this?
Who's afraid of the big, bad Woolf? Me. 😮
I Bring You Sutekh's gift... Of Death... The Death Of Yet Another Beloved Franchise killed by Disney!!! 🤬
Continuity ha ha thats a laugh, well after 2009 continuity went out the window but hey they got one right since then.
He does such a wonderful job! Thank you Mr. Gabriel Woolf!
"I brink Sutekh's gift of milk to all human life."

This script did not deserve Gabriel Woolf.
Spot-on. Totally SQUANDERED.
Sutekh has always been my favorite villain since I was ten.
Must admit, did think it was Tom Baker at first
The return of Gabriel Woolf is by a vast margin the best part of this otherwise awful new series,
"Evil? Your evil is my good. I am Sutekh the Destroyer. Where I tread I leave nothing but dust and darkness. I find that good." ---PYRAMIDS OF MARS. Thank you Gabriel Woolf. You ARE Sutekh!
Shame then RTDeluded, you squandered this opportunity with such cross you written. He deserved better. Oh' RTDeluded, what has happened to you?
The mixing of this video is horrible, I can barely hear the VO over the music
Still one of the best voices in Doctor Who, from any era.
I hope when RTT or whoever managed to sign him up for this, they told everyone "I bring the gift, of Sutekh's original voice..." :D
Did they map his facial expressions to the model? Looks like they might have.
