Well done ... I was just surfing UA-cam when your excellent vid popped up. I now have a solution for nexts years greenhouse at our summer res. Of coarse we should all have a cheers to Bucky
Very well done, Freddy! I just discovered Paul’s UA-cam channel. I’m very happy to see your video here, as it came up in my radar since finding Paul’s. All the best to family and friends. Very happy for you from USA.
Nice dome! I built a 40 foot dome but covered it with Polyurethane rigid foam board and Densdeck on top of that so panel making was a bit more involved. I want to make one like yours for a greenhouse tho. I like the design and my first question about the film looks like its already been answered. Nice work!
I got me one of those done and it was worth every single penny!! Every single time I get in is like a new experience, my pets love to sleep inside. And acup of coffee in the morning tastes like heaven
I'm part way through building mine. Quite fast once you've built the jigs, I've spent a week on it so far and built all the pentagon triangles. I expect it will take 3 weeks in total for it to be complete. I'm doing the 6m GD27 using 3"x2" treated timber. It's good fun and I highly recommend it to anyone who has the space for one. A bit laborious but not hard at all, anyone could build one.
great work done mate!! and the more amazing was that you did it into a small space!!....you are a referent! regards from under southern cross....Chile!.
Hiya there, thank you very much for watching and commenting. Maybe in the summer I’ll make a follow up on use and maintenance. In the winter it’s my dump for dirty and wet bike clothes...F
I am planning on building a greenhouse and am unsure on whether to build a poly tunnel, stick-built with window panes, or a grow dome. I like the geodesic dome structures and can see potential in utilizing the vertical space for tall vining plants. I like the idea of having an area in the greenhouse to sit at a table while dinning on salads and drinking wine.
Everyone that sits in my dome says that it gives them a very tranquil feeling. It is extremely relaxing just to sit there and drink your morning cup of coffee. Mine is a 16' 5/8ths dome made with 1/2" electrical conduit with no cover. Freddy you are right, they are worth all the time and effort you put into one.
Well done! I imagine you may even be able to replace damaged triangular sections of the poly if that becomes necessary, but I believe your prediction is correct - you'll enjoy that dome for years to come, naysayers can go build their own.
The poly is wrapped around the edge of the triangle and stapled so you`ll have to remove the triangle before you can remove the staples ;) This construction method is also prone to leak where adjacent triangles meet and also at the vertices. Tape is appled over the joints as a fix but its not a reliable long term solution to what is really a design issue...
I like that you don’t use hubs to hold this together. I’m building one with the same idea. It makes sense to me that the hubs are the weakest part of the structure. When you join the sides, It is a stronger design. Great job!
I got the G 15 plans, haven't built it yet though. I really like the base for yours though. That style base would allow me to fill those voids in the panels with insulative Aircrete.
Hiya, thank you very much for watching my channel. Regarding the base...I had limiting space and needed to have two access points (doors) as the dome is situated between the house and our log cabin in the back of the garden. The base made that possible as it lifted the dome by about 3foot. It also makes the inside interestingly spacious. Good luck with your build. F
well done Freddy, saying hi from San Antonio TX , human s are under-rated. Don't be measured from your feet to the top of your head, but rather from the top of your head to the sky. thanks
Nice work, looks great. I like the use of DPC, good idea. Can I ask where you purchased the sheet polythene from? It looks quite thick so should stand up to the weather well.
Good day!! It's been 5 years since you created your dom. Great Video. Inspiration for us.. could you please share the experience you had ...how the Dom is holding
that was a JOY TO BEHOLD. ... I live in downtown Toronto which is a dirty shite hole. ... Someday SOON I'm gonna buy a nice little patch of woods up North where I will build a 35 - 40 foot dome with a 2 storey house and an entire ecosystem inside it and I will stay inside my GeoDome Paradise FOREVER.
Well done and thanx and a hat tip from across the pond. The details you documented with your camera were absolutely wonderful and have helped me immeasurably. No question that your toils were not wasted in the least and well worth the time, and patience, spent. Thank you ever so much. BTW what was the bevel angle on the longitudinal lengths of the struts?
Hi Phil, thank you very much for the encouraging words. I'm glad that my video help you in your own endeavour. Can I recommend Paul Robinson's website GEO_DOME.co.uk. Paul sells his plans at very affordable price and provides you with all the needed measurements for the dome. He's really good. Hope this helps. F
Hi there, thank you very much for checking out my channel. I didn’t keep very tight records on the budget, but I would say somewhere around the £1000 mark...it’s the time that it takes to fix the plastic on the frames that I underestimated...
man... the pressure of getting that template juuuust right. And even then, wood won't always conform to the geometry / dimensions that we assign to it. tough project, but yeah that picture convinces me it was worth it.
... I dream about making both one or more domes for greenhouse purposes AND one for actual outhouse like scenario to; but I will proolly never get to afford an garden. Lifestandards is so different around the world, I work fulltime. :P
Very inspiring, I've wanted to build a dome for many years. Does the plastic sheeting rip often? I would think snow and heavy winds would cause them to break? Would you recommend har/rigid plastic sheets?
Hi There, thank you very much for watching my video. My Dome is up now I think for it's third year and the first plastic is still on. I live at the end of a windy corridor coming from the seaside and the wind can be seriously violent, but the dome nor the poly has moved an inch. As long as you put enough time in fixing it properly as recommended by Paul Robinson in his videos...Also there's poly in different thicknesses and UV resistance. It's worth looking into that as well. Regarding snow we only had maybe once or twice for a couple of days the fun of snow, so I have not much experience on that issue. For that short time and maybe 1" thick. Hope this reply helps you to have a go at it, it's really rewarding when the project is finished and you can have the benefit and use of it. F
Hi Freddy great work would love to build one of these was wondering if you share the plans for this the measurements of the triangles look forward to hearing from you many’s thx
Hi There, thank you very much for watching my video. I myself bought the plans from the following website geo-dome.co.uk. Paul is the owner of this specific design. I agreed to respect his intellectual property when I purchased the plan. The plan is not expensive and Paul even adapts it to your needs. So please go and support a fellow UA-camr. By the way I do not make any commission on me forwarding him to you. I just believe in respecting someone’s hard work. All the best with your project. F
That is a great looking dome and the whole process is wonderfully illustrated here. The only thing that's got me wondering is how difficult it would be to replace ripped plastic coverings in one of those triangle frames. Hope I'm wrong, but I'm thinking "bloody difficult!".
To redo the plastic is virtually impossible. One has to come up with a different solution. One of these day I’ll make a video of my intermediate solution. Thank you for watching.

Hey Freddy. You had mentioned that you used 2x2s to cut your bevels into. Were those true 2x2s or were they 1.5"x1.5" Thank you.

Excellent, Freddie. Well done. Great music choices too 😊 Thanks for sharing!

Hiya, thank you very much for watching our video and for the appreciation. I’m happy it could contribute to the community. Have a nice one. Freddy
So well done, thanks. Going to build a little corner dome, for a winter stargazing shelter, just what I was looking for, cheers :)
It’s so wonderful, great build, wish I had those skills.

Great dome! From the video I have seen so far, this is the one that was the most clear and fun to watch to me. How much did the materials cost?

Very nice job, Freddy. I'm afraid that plastic is going to get brittle in a couple of years, though, unless it is UV resistant.
Hiya, yes it is UV resistant. I bought special greenhouse poly 5y UV resitant. Thank you for the nice comment. F
I almost cry, come on men
Nice work! What angle did you rip the 2"x2" at?
This is a masterpiece. Great job..Is the base part of G27 plans or you just make it up as you go along?
Hi thank you very much for your great comment. The base comes with the plan indeed. As you need to know what the angle is to fit to the half octagon.
