    I just graduated as a surgical tech and I'm thinking about going back to school to be a sonographer. If I learned nothing else from becoming a surgical tech, it's to do your research before just jumping into a healthcare field. So, that's what I'm doing now and this really gave me some insight into this field. So thank you! I still have some more researching to do, but I'm thinking about going for it!

      Hey what was your surgical tech experience like? I’m debating if I should study that. How stressful is it? I have anxiety problems and mild scoliosis so I’m thinking a lot lol

    • @shikapooh2287
      @shikapooh2287 9 місяців тому +2

      @@ASimpleBall I have severe anxiety with panic attacks and I had surgery on my back because of scoliosis so we are similar. My experience was.... nerve wracking. It takes a special type of person to be a surgical tech and the clinical rotation I we through taught me that I am not one of those people. 😅 This only really applies to three specialties for me, though ORTHO, NEURO (neuro isn't all that bad just super long and a LOT of instruments but surprisingly you don't use as many different ones as you do in Ortho), and general. My back hurts SO bad that some days I couldn't even stand up straight, my anxiety was through the roof despite my medication, some preceptors really don't want students, and doctors (not all) can be asses. It can be both stressful and exciting. It was even rewarding at times when I got to do things on my own and I had a preceptor that actually smiled and greeted me. But I also couldn't take it to heart because the job is already stressful enough for them, and on on top of all that, having a student. They didn't have a choice in the matter and they didn't get paid any extra money for babysitting a new ST. This just comes along with the job. I really wanted to be in L&D, oral/maxillofacial, or opthalmic but here where I live they are scrambling to hire for general and orthopedic the most and it's very hard for new hires to get into other specialties. In the end, it's not for me, but your experience could be totally different. So, if this is something you're truly interested in, then, by all means, become a ST.

    To answer the whole "something I didn't know": & I hope this dosn't sound stupid, but I know all jobs have good and bad days, but I didn't know what a bad day in this field looked like. I have been researching thise field for a bit and have been wondering about that and how common experiences like that were in this field. I find it realy helpful that you emphasized what could go wrong on the job and what a person needs to 100% be emotionally ready for in this line of work.
    I have been considering going into this field, but I have found over the years that I am slow to heal from something like an unforseen passing. I am guessing this isn’t the field for me, but I really appreciate your highlighting of the pros & cons. I have seen a few other videos, and your's the first to really go over what a bad day is like. So I know this sounds like a bit of a bummer takeaway, but thank you so much for how thorough your video has been. It has been super helpful.

You will have to scan both men and women during clinicals, but you still have the option to work in a facility after school where you won’t have to do both.

    As an ultrasound technician, are you guys always exposed to dim and dark places when working? Or it really depends on which division you are at? What percentage of the time you are exposed to dim lights? My eyes are pretty sensitive and I get dizzy from looking at my phone in the dark! This probably isn’t for me? What do u think…

    • @cierrabreanna
      @cierrabreanna  2 роки тому +3

      I’m still an ultrasound student, but yes our rooms are mostly pretty dark, with maybe one lamp on. I have astigmatism so my eyes are super sensitive as well. I find that wearing my glasses helps! They transition into shades when they sense UV rays from the sun, which really helps my eyes transition from dark rooms to extreme sunlight. I used to get really bad headaches and dizzy from it, but doing that and also following the 20 20 20 rule helps me from suffering from them!

    • @cierrabreanna
      @cierrabreanna  2 роки тому +4

      But most places have dark rooms. The 20 20 20 rule gives your eyes breaks from straining and starring at the computer. You’ll learn about it once you start school, but they also have videos online on how to follow it!

      Yes! In a hospital, you can work all types of schedules. I currently work two 12 hour shifts a week as a student. Once I graduate I’ll be working more hours. If you work in out-patient you’ll most likely have a set schedule like a 9-5

I wanted to work in healthcare, but didn’t have the patience to be a nurse lol. I thought about the military too, but I ended up landing on ultrasound. I didn’t shadow a sonographer, but I watched a lot of of videos on sonography to find out if it was the right fit for me and I did a tour of my school before applying. I would recommend taking a tour so that you can ask many questions about the program before applying there! Good luck!!

So I should finish all of them them first then apply to one to the programs it says the deadline was already nov 2022. Also what made you choose Sonography over Radiological Technology anything in particular? On my colleges website it says the radiological people make slightly more money not sure if that’s true. And what you said about the money thing is true in a way , I feel like if your smart with your money and your not miserable at your jobs it’s better than being in a cubicle working for the master boss. My friends “pops”that he recently found out about but never met. Runs a mortgage business and his website literally has a bunch of damn typos on it oh lawddd. At this point I think money making abilities can’t be all from somebody’s intelligence. I think some people are just really determined , and they curbed the laziness and discipline. Because if he can have typos on his website and very little followers on his socials and still be bringing in customers it can’t be that hard. A lot of the “intelligent” people in my highschool would overthink everything leading them to getting no where. Great channel I’ll def subscribe.

      Hi, it’s like any traditional college. Before you get into your major, you have to take a certain amount of prereqs that are required for that program like nursing school. It’s not like law school where you have to get a bachelors degree before being eligible for law school. Some technical schools may require you to have a degree before you join their program so it just depends on where you go. My college is a associates degree program so I will come out with a degree in diagnostic medical sonography.
