Thank you so much i just turned 17 and i am graduating soon when i got adopted out of foster care i was 15 and the system was in such a hurry to place a child like me that they didn't give my family any information on anything. I didn't even know things like this existed.
I’m stuck between DMS and RN as well. I just got accepted into RN program but I have a second thought. For some reason DMS seems more interesting. What did you guys decide on?
Mary Muniz I still have a couple months left before I have to apply. I’m going into my senior year but honestly I am still stuck!! It sucks because they both have good and bad. I’m starting to lean towards DMS but I have 4 or so months before I have to apply to schools this fall. 😬 it’s nerve wracking.
Anita Shubert I haven’t decided 😬😩 But idk they both have good and bad. I’m also interested in respiratory therapy. The only main thing that really draws me away from nursing is the fact that all the 4 year programs in my state are overfilled and have no more room. So that means a waiting list of a couple of years and I don’t have time to wait. I wanna jump in and make money. I grew up with my parents always struggling with money I personally don’t want that and the sooner I get into the field I feel like more money I can make. I’m still deciding i will keep y’all updated tho if I remember to comment on here haha

I am currently a senior in high school and I am also a Registered dental assistant, I will soon be graduating May 12th! Come faster?! Lol. I truly thought I would continue my education in dentistry to become a Dental Hygienist but I came to the conclusion that if I do that, I will not be following my dreams! I've been fascinated with the idea of Sonography. I'm specifically looking into echocardiography! I took A&P when I took classes to become a registered dental assistant and that was honestly the most interesting part of the whole course. The heart is what I loved learning about the most 🫀🥺 Anyways, long story short, I tossed my Dental Hygiene application and applied for the DMS program at my local community college! Thank you for this video ❤️📚🫀🙌🏼
Great video, I am going back to school and considering this program. What was the age group? I am 41 right now, and just wanted to change my whole career, but just a little freaked out about going back to school with young students. Thank you
the age group was mostly 23-27. a few in 30-40 with kids. i was the youngest in my program. i know its hard to believe but i felt like being the youngest at 19 when i started was very hard because people look down on you, im sure thats how you can feel being the oldest. there isn a difference in the age. we are all doing the same hard work. dont let that hold you back!
Just subscribed, I’m going to be seeing the school I’m interested in today, so I will get more information on the program. I love your videos I hope you can do more please please please lol
I’m in the Maryland area too, i wanted to be a sonographer but I never knew how to, I thought I didn’t have enough money to go but thank you for showing me there are options I think I will follow that career path.
Young people these days are soo lucky. Back then I didn't have anybody hold my hand in college (not my parents, no one!) that's why it took me five years to get a 2 year degree back in 2008! And then after that, I was STILL lost because my two year degree was in something VERY general like communications (because I wanted something easy and fast!) and so then I ended up working in minimum wage job and I am STILL there and I am 36! ... I like my job though because it's easy but the pay does suck... man... I think if I only knew I would end up with a minimum wage job in my 30s, I'd have skipped college all together! Signed ,someone with TWO associates degrees (I qualified for a Social and Behavioral Science AA in 2017), a certificate in RE, AND a life Insurance license that for some reason, I haven't been able to get a job in ANY of those fields!!
LosDosFancyPants omg, im going in for nursing (still taking prereq classes but I’m changing my mind and want to do sonography 😓 but I’m not sure yet ugh
I would say ultrasound physics does include a lot of equations and math. You have to pass that in order to continue. That being said, after that there isn't a ton unless you're in Cardiac
working is very hard to balance but i know plenty of students that were able to do it! you know how you are managed under pressure, think hard about it before you go into schooling and working
Thank you for this! I just got my A.A. but interested in this career but scared cause i cannot afford it at the moment and afraid of failing or getting bored of it. Me time is important to me like taking care of myself and i heard when you're in the program you have no social life and can affect your relationship with your partner.
Itzzy Taehyung going into this program I had to practice a lot of self care and learn to manage my mental health bc if I tried to juggle too many things like studying and working and social life I’d go crazy. If you can give yourself some self discipline and keep up with a strict schedule you can definitely find time to have a social life. I def still went out if I needed to. Your mental health is important or you wouldn’t be able to get your education thoroughly
I want to be a Sonographer, but doing Transvaginal and Scrotal ultrasounds will make me /extremely/ uncomfortable... If I become a sonographer will I HAVE to do those?
I’m so so bad at math and I’m so scared that I’d be taking physics I literally took Algebra 1 !! For 3 years in high school and my last year I took geometry and graduated with a D in that class! I’m 26 now and I want to be an ultrasound tech but I feel super discouraged with the math courses I may be taking.. any help or advice will be appreciated 👍🏼
This video was super helpful! How were you able to afford not having a job while in the program? My biggest problem currently in school is trying to juggle a full-time job and taking classes. I have bills and things to pay for so I was just curious as to how you did it without a job?
How long would you say it took for you to be able to confidently find and identify what you were looking for on the monitor when you were learning how to do the ultrasounds? I am nervous about how difficult it may be to figure out what exactly you’re looking for and looking at on the monitor, that is the main thing holding me back from starting this program😭
I just graduated from high school and i am a English learner. High school was kind hard for me so I wanna know if is it hard like the vocabulary and stuff? Or the classes in general. Thank you for answering! 😊
Thats so funny how Im legit thinking about doing sonography and im also going to montgomery college 😂😂 I was thinking of doing x ray tech but im leaning toward sonography
I recently moved to an area and the only place that offers DMS schooling is a 27 month accelerated Bachloers degree program. So, the program is 27 months, 2+ years, but you get a bachelor's. I wanted to just get an Associates but this is the only route they offer in my area. And many people will face these challenges. Many of these degrees aren't available to everyone in every state. Some states don't even have it.
Hey thanks for all the info!! Have a couple questions you might be able to answer.. are there any sports or fitness specialities in ultrasound? Such as a sports team, physical therapy clinic, etc. also, Is there any advantages of having a separate bachelors degree? I have one in health science and feel like I’m going backwards in terms of education
Q1. Explain why a full bladder is required when performing a TA ultrasound examination of a female patient? Q2. Explain the difficulties when performing a TA Ultrasound examination of the female pelvis when the bladder is full. Q3. Detail the information that should be provided to the patient regarding filling their bladder.
Pradip Neupane 1. When the bladder is full if creates a window to better visualize the uterus and ovaries for a pelvic exam. The bladder needs to be full if you’re evaluating the bladder for masses/cystitis/ obstructions and the ability to tell how much the patient is able to void. 2. The only difficult thing is dealing with the patient if they can not hold their urine. A full bladder is always preferred for adequate images. 3. Tell the patient to drink 32 oz of water 1 hour before the exam and do not void until after the exam.
Kristy Le Thanks so much for the video 😊 I watched your videos before deciding to go into a program... super helpful! I too am wondering what it was you didn’t like about being at the hospital? I’m trying to imagine what I would like, although I don’t think I’ll have a choice in that 😂
Hey gir! I love your videos they are super helpful! So I start the program in the fall and I'm super excited yet super nervous. What are some tips and trick that you would give me? Also I usually just work on the weekend do you think I can keep doing that once I'm in the program?
Denise Vazquez glad you love the videos! I’m here to help. First congrats on getting in girl! Definitely mentally prepare yourself to get back into school study mode. You will need it. Be sure to keep a strict mental schedule with handling studying clinicals and working if you decide to continue to work. I personally utilized my weekend to study or have a normal social life. Put your mental health before everything. Don’t try to juggle too many things !
I haven't started the program yet, but I watched an ultrasound vid here on youtube and it looked like gibberish to me lol. How long did it take for you and your classmates to grasp the scans/images seen on the machine?
you get use to it! dont be scared that you arent going to udnerstand ultasound. theres a reason why there is schooling! its ok! took a while but youll get it. they teach you all the different shades of grey!
I graduated college with a bachelors in biology degree. What steps do I have to take to become a sonographer? (Specifically looking into cardiac sonographer). Do I have to enroll myself in any sonographer programs or do I go straight into looking to get my certifications, like RDCS, ARDMS...?
I think the reason why people ask if you get paid to do clinicals is because in Australia and the UK, clinical placements are paid ahaha. And for us we're required 2200 training hours before graduating so it's a pretty good amount hehe.
@@karlapark8085 True, and thank you for the advice :D But one of the reasons I want to do a bachelors is if I ever want to go on and do med school to become a doctor.
I’m wondering what time your school started and/or starts? I currently work overnights from 11pm-7am and am trying to keep my job to be able to get through school and pay rent and stuff, I could get to school probably earliest 8am and can do school work and stuff all night during my shift, I have a lot of free time. But would need to sleep in the afternoon for a least 6-7 hours maybe like 5pm-10:30pm or something. Does that sound doable for the kind schooling that you went to? Or probably not
Lauren Baldwin have you had an answer anywhere else? Im kinda in the same boat. I wanna do this but am looking into working part time instead of full time do to supporting myself
When i was 20 I got in trouble with the law and have a misdimeanor on my background. This was exactly a year ago, does this interfere with my chances of getting into the program?
Depends on what the charge is for. If it involved harming someone or dishonesty you won't get in. If it was for something like trespassing or public intoxication and you're open and honest about the situation you'll likely be fine. Definitely don't try to lie about it or down play it. Just say you can see now the decisions you made were dumb, regrettable, etc. and you've learned and grown/matured from the experience.
Great video. I’m currently going to a community college planning to apply for the sonography program but are program is extremely competitive and only takes 8 students a year

Hello Kristy! I am a first year at a four year college and I have a change of plan and have been interested in Prenatal Synography for some time now. I was just wondering how I would start from here since the program doesn't require any college degree and since it is a two year program. Do you suggest that I continue my years here at college and get into the synography program after those four years?
would you years at your college be beneficial??? i feel lik if it isnt dont waste your time. just go straight into sonography. take your prerequisties and go into it!!
It's to my understanding that an associates is not required. For poor test takers like myself, that would save a whole lot of time, money and headache.
Hey love , so I’m currently taking Anatomy and Physiology 102 at my school it’s part of the pre-req for the dms program at my school , I’m worried because it’s getting really difficult and I’m scared of failing and thinking what if this career isn’t for me even though I love ultrasound..any advice ??
I think if you really love it you should keep trying. I'm totally going to sound cliche but failure leads to success. Honestly, I struggled with anatomy too and I just started to question everything. Is this for me? Will I even get accepted into the program? but I didn't give up I tried again and did better. I just got accepted into the program (I start in the fall) And I'm pretty sure that if I can do it you can too. You got this girl!
Omg I love the responses! This is all so true. Tbh I was near to failing a&p. I barely passed. I almost dropped the course because my grade was so bad but eventually pulled it together after doubting my self and I manage to pass and I knew my hard work paid of. My program only accepted 30 people and I was so terrified the grades wouldn’t be enough! But you have so many more strengths to display. Don’t give up. Put in the hard work and it will pay off

This is a GREAT video! Very informative, thank you!!
Thank you so much i just turned 17 and i am graduating soon when i got adopted out of foster care i was 15 and the system was in such a hurry to place a child like me that they didn't give my family any information on anything. I didn't even know things like this existed.
this video was so helpful so thank you! i’m currently in the air force & i really want to go into sonography when i’m out!
Thank you so much for this video!!! I’m still undecided about becoming a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer or an RN and this was really helpful 💛
Lesley, I am stuck making the same decision as you. What did you decide?
Lesley Meraz
Thank you very much for you sincere answer🙏🏼. I’m crossing my fingers for you🤞🏼. You are very smart and will succeed in everything you do 🦋🥇🏆
I am currently a senior in high school and I am also a Registered dental assistant, I will soon be graduating May 12th!
Congrats thank you so much for the info !!! So proud of you.
I’m also going to Montgomery college. I was originally going for pre nursing but I’m looking to switch to the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program.
LosDosFancyPants omg, im going in for nursing (still taking prereq classes but I’m changing my mind and want to do sonography 😓 but I’m not sure yet ugh
@@jessicadelgado1733 hiii I’m on the same boat! What decision did you end up taking?
@@mangOt7 ended up switching to sonography 🥺😅 honestly don’t regret it but do what’s best for you!
@@jessicadelgado1733 Oh nice! Did you finish schooling? What specialty?
Thanks so much ! I appreciate all of answers. You were helpful.
I would say ultrasound physics does include a lot of equations and math. You have to pass that in order to continue. That being said, after that there isn't a ton unless you're in Cardiac
Yup! You’re so right!!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Thank god because that’s what I’m doing.
Dang I just turned 29..interested in becoming a sonographer. Feel like its alot of work, and I'm unsure if I'll be able to not work while in school
I'm 23 and Wonder the same thing for myself!
working is very hard to balance but i know plenty of students that were able to do it! you know how you are managed under pressure, think hard about it before you go into schooling and working
You will most likely have to unless you choose to go the vascular or echo route!
Amen the first question answered my question
I’m so so bad at math and I’m so scared that I’d be taking physics I literally took Algebra 1 !! For 3 years in high school and my last year I took geometry and graduated with a D in that class! I’m 26 now and I want to be an ultrasound tech but I feel super discouraged with the math courses I may be taking.. any help or advice will be appreciated 👍🏼
This video was super helpful! How were you able to afford not having a job while in the program? My biggest problem currently in school is trying to juggle a full-time job and taking classes. I have bills and things to pay for so I was just curious as to how you did it without a job?
misomilly was thinking the same thing. I wanna know if i can at least work part time to do this major
Did you ever get an answer to this question? That’s the only thing stopping me from possibly trying to get into the program and going into Sonography
I’m so glad I’m watching this video it helped me a lot
How long would you say it took for you to be able to confidently find and identify what you were looking for on the monitor when you were learning how to do the ultrasounds? I am nervous about how difficult it may be to figure out what exactly you’re looking for and looking at on the monitor, that is the main thing holding me back from starting this program😭
It takes weeks but the more you scan and practice the easier it gets! Lol. We are ALL scared in the beginning.
It’s definitely gonna be a hands in learning experience
I just graduated from high school and i am a English learner. High school was kind hard for me so I wanna know if is it hard like the vocabulary and stuff? Or the classes in general. Thank you for answering! 😊
DORA ACOSTA idk I’m in highschool myself but if regular./everyday english is tricky then will u be able to understand the coursework.
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeee s/o my cousin Kristy Le ya hurrrrrrrd!!!
Thats so funny how Im legit thinking about doing sonography and im also going to montgomery college 😂😂 I was thinking of doing x ray tech but im leaning toward sonography
do it!!! keep me updated!
this was very helpful, thank you!
That's crazy. Majority of my local sonography programs require a previous associates or bachelor's to even apply for the program.
All the schools near me in Cali are about 30k-45k before fasfa 😭😢
How can it be so cheap ? I am in community college too , but the price for 2 year program is around .... around $16 000
Stuck between Dental Hygiene or Sonography 😒
Can you explain more on your experiences in the outpatients/hospital settings, please?
Vanessa Sowers ofcourse ! I’ll try to make another video for that!
How long did your prerequisites take before joining the DMS program?
What's the difference between certification program and associate program?? Will it be okay to get my certification ??
I want to know this also!!
I think I seen you on a video for the community college by me. I'm very interested in their program. I know this video is old but it was helpful.
Great video . Thank you
Great video. Hoping that someone would’ve asked about the Payscale
Would you suggest taking Physics Ana Chemistry together? Both are prerequisites for my school
I graduated college with a bachelors in biology degree. What steps do I have to take to become a sonographer? (Specifically looking into cardiac sonographer). Do I have to enroll myself in any sonographer programs or do I go straight into looking to get my certifications, like RDCS, ARDMS...?
yes! you have to enroll in an accredited program in order to sit for you RDCS!
Hey Kristy quick question I’m looking into this career is a lot of math involved or no ? I hear this a lot just thought I would ask (:
Super helpful thank you
I think the reason why people ask if you get paid to do clinicals is because in Australia and the UK, clinical placements are paid ahaha. And for us we're required 2200 training hours before graduating so it's a pretty good amount hehe.
Wow that’s incredible!
Dam, my Sonography course is 4 years... 3 Years study + prac then 1 Year full prac with a little study.
Edit: I'm doing a bachelor's degree, though.
Doing bachelor or associate doesn’t get you more money there’s no difference at all. Just letting you know! Good luck in everything ❤️
@@karlapark8085 True, and thank you for the advice :D But one of the reasons I want to do a bachelors is if I ever want to go on and do med school to become a doctor.
Do you have to take the patients blood pressure? If so, is it a manual blood pressure monitor?
Very helpful, thank you!!!
I’m currently going to a community college planning to apply for the sonography program but are program is extremely competitive and only takes 8 students a year
Samantha Dicriscio actually same
OMG! 8 students a year?!?! THAT IS CRAZYYY! Now i’m even more nervous to try and apply to my sonography program. They have to interview me and i’m terrible at interviews or even normal conversations :(((((
@@veannehow’d it go?
@@courtneyn4157 I didn't expect it, but I got accepted to the program!! I'm currently in my second semester, and in clinicals :) It was an overwhelming process, but all worth it...
@@veanne congratulations, I am also in my second semester of schooling.
How did you prepare for your board exam?
Omg I wanna go to Mc too. I’m a single teen mom and I wanna be a sonographer. Only problem is I work and I heard it’s very difficult. Do you think I’ll have to leave my job? Also I noticed how few people get in and I’m worried. Please reply and loved your video💞
sonography schooling requires alot of focus. i never recommend working but it isnt impossible!
I am 24 years old, expecting my first child, i knew i wanted to join the program when I experience pregnancy and going to my ultrasound appointments, I'm nervous to start since ill have a little one but i know it will be worth it!
Hey there i m a echo/ ekg/ vascular tec and I find it very difficult to get into a hospital. I have 2 years experience in a mobile company but no matter what I do I can’t get a job in the hospital. I fear it’s because I m a male and had few female patients that didn’t want me to scan them. I just want to know if it’s worth staying on this path.
We have plenty of male techs in our hospital! Keep searching 💖
Could you please share how to prepare for the Ultrasound Student Assessment?
Important question, Can you contact any illnesses from handling these instruments for sonography?
if you practice good PPE and clean before and after patients , most likely not! but cant say not impossible
Were you really good in A&P? I am in A&P 2 and struggling lol
Are you satisfied with your pay? How much is the average salary of each field?
thank you for this!
Hi, I am from Maryland too! Are there any guys in the program? Asking for myself.
No way, I’m here in Maryland as well. Went to MC. Hopefully my credits will transfer over.
I’m in Maryland as well omggg. Do you know by any chance what school she’s talking about?
Montgomery college in Takoma park/silver spring ! The DMS program
Kristy Le wow is there anyway I can contact you I have a few more questions if you don’t mind
@@bgurley1998 yes girl! My main source of contact with my sono supporters are on my IG @kristydms send me a message and I’ll get back to you shortly
After you graduate and get your degree, how can you register as an ob gyn or any other sonography?
You got this girl!
thank you so much!!@@denisevazquez6434 I'm having such a stressful time with it but you are totally right (:
Omg I love the responses! This is all so true. Tbh I was near to failing a&p. I barely passed. I almost dropped the course because my grade was so bad but eventually pulled it together after doubting my self and I manage to pass and I knew my hard work paid of. My program only accepted 30 people and I was so terrified the grades wouldn’t be enough! But you have so many more strengths to display. Don’t give up. Put in the hard work and it will pay off
A&p is really an amazing course BUT all depends on the type of prof. Teaching. Not everyone can teach so that makes it hard but rewrite you’re notes constantly and it’ll take you a long way!
👍🏻 thank you
If you're decent at test taking, you could definitely hold down a job while doing the program. If I didn't have a child I'd have a job for sure.
Brittany Roncone I’m starting in April I have a child and a job I’m so nervous my son is 15 months!
@@giaflotta7315 it's going to be rough! I could hold down a job but then I'd never see my son! We managed to get a part time job driving and he comes with me so that's a plus@
