      Its a doctors office for high risk babies. The doctor will deliver the child if necessary and just monitors their care like an obgyn. For example, I had an ultrasound at one because my pregnancies were less than a year apart. So it was more high risk, but i got to continue regular care with my obgyn.

I’ve currently just started a bachelors in health science I’m in my second semester and am interested in medical sonography. I’ve looked into Howard and Montgomery and I would most likely commute. Would you recommend me to finish my bachelor’s at my current college and then go on to apply to either of those programs, or should I not finish my degree at this school at all (which doesn’t offer DMS) and apply to DMS at Montgomery or Howard? Because I would essentially have two degrees and I would have to do two extra years to do the DMS program after I graduate and I don’t think I need two degrees to get a high salary in DMS. This might sound like a silly question, but is Sonography dangerous? As in, because of the radiation exposure? This fear is what's causing me to hesitate in becoming a Sonographer (vascular), hah

    • @swedishshortsnout5610
      @swedishshortsnout5610 3 роки тому +2

      No, it's not a silly question! In advance, sorry for the long reply.
      I don't know where you heard this information, but sonography does not use radiation. Therefore, there is absolutely no radiation exposure to you or the patient. Other imaging fields, such as X-ray, CT, Nuclear Medicine, Radiation Therapy, etc. use ionizing beams or radioactive substances that pose the long-term risk of radiation exposure to the patient/employee. FYI, like sonography, MRI is one of the other imaging specialties that does not use radiation to create images.
      With sonography, we transmit sound beams into the patient from the transducer. It is NOT considered dangerous to them or to us as employees. Don't be fooled by the talk of patient risks like "thermal/mechanical bio-effects" and "cavitations/microbubbles". These do not occur at significant enough levels to harm in diagnostic ultrasound. It never happens. Patient exposure SHOULD be kept to a minimum, but the effects would only become harmful if you cranked up the gain settings and held the probe at skin level for a ridiculously long time. After all this, there is controversy over these effects being harmful to the patient in the first place.
      I'm currently finishing my Echocardiography program and will soon be going into a Vascular ultrasound program. Someone with an OB ultrasound background might be able to better explain to you the fetal risks. In any case, this would only be with prolonged exposure over a long period of time. The same principles apply to all ultrasound modalities.

    • @EmpireProd

      Yep college lots of classes that aren’t related, university you have to pass act test I think, trade school is your quick best bet, however the better certification with more experience the better pay

    Weird question but when would a sonographer use a probe to do a transvaginal ultrasound, or does the doctor do that?

    • @KristyDMS
      @KristyDMS  4 роки тому +1

      transvaginal ultrasounds can be used for many things. when a pelvic ultrasound is order for like abnormal bleeding, for ob/gyn its for checking the cervix. many reasons. we are the ones who do it

    Hey which one would you recommend cardiovascular Sonography or diagnostic medical Sonography

    • @KristyDMS
      @KristyDMS  4 роки тому

      depends on what you like. cardio is strictly scanning hearts. while DMS is scanning everythingggg except the heart

    Okay so I plan on going to a sonography program as well. Your video really helps see what a sonographer does on a daily basis. I just wanted to ask you, how often do you see bodily fluids? I do have a fear of blood and needles.

    • @veanne
      @veanne 4 роки тому +1

      I plan on too! I also have a fear of blood and needles which is why I originally never planned on going for the medical field. However I think that sonographers don't have to deal with needles because nurses will do that. I think we may see blood and bodily fluids at times tho. IM SO NERVOUS

    • @mack7586-m8h

      Me too! I was going for nursing but it turns out that I faint at blood draws! Huge drawback for me because I was so determined for it. :( Now I am looking into sonography because I like the hands on aspect and I am very much so a people-person. I'm glad I'm not alone here.

    Hello. thanks for the video. it's hard to find the video like this like how it would be like actually working as a sonographer. I have a one question to ask if you don't mind! Do you think you could work as a sonographer with a back pain(ex. disc problems)? I am a office worker and thinking of changing my career toward medical field and sonographer came into my mind. But the fact that I have a constant back pain is one of the biggest fear now even over studying for 2 years and stuff.

    Thank you Kristy for awesome advices. I currently in DMS program and I’m loving it. My hand feels like wanting to scan someone lol. My weakness is I still shy when I come to clinic site, I learn fast like I know what to do I know how to take the patients how to set up and everything. The only thing that I have trouble with is confidence. After watching your video I realized how important it is for my future job. Thank you for your video! Btw I’m volunteering for an open house at my school this Monday to welcome some new pre-select student and introduce this program to them. I’m beyond happy and excited!
