@@christianburk7309 are you smart? Slow and Low is right after Brass Monkey on Licensed* to Ill 1986. i said that. let it flow let your self go slow and low that is the tempo? no?
Purest hip hop possible and a huge homage to the early days of hip hop culture where the DJ was the star and the MCs were just the garnish to get the party moving. Back when they were actually just the MCs of a party, the Masters of Ceremony, before they became Emcees and got the spotlight for their craft. Its a nice tip of the cap to the beginnings of the NY Hip Hop scene.
Beastie Boys had 3 DJs over their tenure - Rick Rubin on 1st album,, DJ Hurricane (of Run DMC fame),, and MixMaster Mike....The Beastie Boys also play guitar, AdRock,, bass MCA,, drums MikeD on many of their songs,, and the mastermind behind the production was Rick Rubin on 1st album,, the famed Dust Bros on my favorite masterpiece 'Pauls Boutique' with Mario C. producing everything after that .... And Beastie Boys videos were produced by themselves, also used Spike Jonez, and Oscilloscope. Pioneers, legends, icons in Hip Hop, samples, mix, fashion, etc ! Hope you enjoy this journey, as much as we have over the last 30+ yrs ! RIP MCA
4 DJs Rick Rubin only made it through about the first week of the Madonna tour. He was followed by Doctor Dre. No not that one. This Dre is the Doctor Dre of Yo MTv Raps game. He got left at a hotel while on the Together Forever Tour with Run DMC and was replaced by Hurricane, tour member and friend of RUN DMC. Hurricane hung on through their 4 rap album. It's worth noting that's while the had these DJ the Beasties still did all their own scratching on the recordings. The Hello Nasty album was also the premier of DJ Mix Master Mike who remained till the end. MNM also started doing the scratching for the albums.
“I’m Mike D and I’m back from the dead” What was funny was the rumor had been circulating for a few months that one of the Beastie Boys OD’ed and died.
You honestly need more than 3 days 3 songs. These guys are probably one of the most talented groups to ever perform. Saw them three times in concert... epic. Try Eggman from Paul’s. Boutique.
Drum track on this one is amazing. My daughter plays drums and I let her hear this one. She couldn't stop listening and I saw her working it out to try later. Great reaction! Fun to hear these songs again after so many years.
In a later interview when asked about beats, Ad Rock was like "I don't understand not making your own music. Like, I know that's a thing and that's cool, but I don't understand it." MCA had that perfect rap voice. Also, "I can see why my mama really liked this" is the greatest compliment you could give.
Maybe that was much later, and Adrock can afford to talk because he’s excellent at crafting beats and he can write and play music, but there’s a certain amount of irony in relation to this video in particular because when the Beastie Boys connected with the Dust Brothers to make Paul’s Boutique supposedly most of the tracks were already finished or nearly finished and they were going to be released as instrumentals. Also, Paul’s Boutique is one of the most sample-dense albums ever made, so it was literally the Beastie Boys rapping over someone else’s beats that were themselves composites of an unprecedented number of other artists’ music. And yet, it is of course a distinct and extremely of-the-Beastie Boys album.
The album that's being shown at @4:21 is Sergio Mendes. Check out Sergio Mendes - Mas Que Nada introduction by Eartha Kitt....(type all of that). You won't be disappointed.
Love-Love The Beastie Boys !!!!! They came out and it was Love at first Beat... Still relevant to this day... I dare anyone not to Bump when they hear it, it’s impossible to stay still.... I notice that everyone smiles at the verse referring to the Flintstones... However, people seem to not get the verse: “ I’m like Sam the butcher and bringing Alice the meat”... This is from the Brady Bunch, Alice was the house keeper and Sam the Butcher was her Boyfriend.... American Classic...
2 YY's and thick thighs! You go! Beasties are the biggest selling hip-hop artists ever and by far. They helped Def-Jam grow and had so many styles on each album! Try Gratitude from Check your head as a FUNKY track LIVE instruments. Also a later track with Nas called Too many rappers - showing they had IT the whole career.
I mean they are not the biggest selling hip hop artists ever, Eminem is, but they do go way back in the game. Public Enemy opened for them and they got LL Cool Js tape in the hands of the label.
@@billbradley4878 I was was curious about that too. A lot of pages say they were but the NY Times qualified it saying according to the RIAA the were the largest selling over some time period from 1991 to I can't remember the end date. So there is some ambiguity over this.
This song has at least samples they had to clear...back when samples were a nickel to clear. This song would cost a fortune to make today. Keep looking at Paul’s Boutique...great album.
One more thing... Now Ms. Jay, your killing the whole spectrum of music. Your going thru all genres and I thank you for that. However, I think your missing a major part of the 80’s. The Cure.... I haven’t seen ya do anything on the The Cure or thinking about it The Smiths. This was a turning point in music across the world. This is what’s referred to as “Alternative” music... like Depche Mode as well... these bands were the under ground scene that helped evolve most music we here today. Adele has covered the Cure and just recently Miley covered them as well. Not to mention one of the Smiths songs became the entrance to a TV sit-com on major tv in America. I’ve seen where these bands have been used on TV commercials as well. I think the PR people must be my age as well to remember these tracks and use them to stimulate us to buy products... lmao. Or maybe their just die bards music people like us. FYI: I mention artists/bands to you not so that you’ll do a react vid on all I speak of, but to bring this to you as a music lover to enjoy as I have. Love your channel and you... xoxoxo
Jayy Beasties were ARE the greatest hip artists EVER, forget black or white. Eminem,Public NME,LL or NWA..,......They all wanted to Beastie Boys.Their samples were second to none and they can play their own instruments. (Check out Sabotage on Letterman.) Love your channel but love Beasties more, glad there's so much of them on UA-cam lately!😛❤️🏴
I like to see you react to female rappers from the 80s and the 90s like MC Lyte's song "Cha, Cha, Cha," Salt-n-Pepa's tune "Push It", Queen Latifah's song. Either " Dance For Me" or "U.N.I.T.Y." Lauryn Hill's song " That Thing" . Just to make a few. Gonna subscribe your show and click thumb up button. You have a great day.😁😁😁
Who else hears "Johnny Ryall" as soon as this song ends even after all these years?
Claims that he wrote the Blue Suede Shoes...

Let's not forget Kate Shellenbach who drummed for them in the beginning and went on to form Lucious Jackson.

Hey Ladies is a must. Official video.
I concur
Say word!!!
Everything I love about Hip Hop happened between 1989 and 1998.
There's some GREAT throwback boombap stuff going on right now in the underground. Real hiphop didn't die, it just got unprofitable!
Anything the Goats did is beast! B boy for life!
'with your bad breath onion rings' 😁

His name CLARENCE. And Clarence parents have a real good marriage.
