Not to correct you, but the beat is built on a looped sample of a Southside Movement song from the mid-seventies. Granted, we all know the Beastie Boys play instruments (including drums) in a great many of their tracks, but damn they sure know how to make deadly use of samples too.
@@nathanisaksson7750 that's why they are brilliant artist. They were collage artists and made it their own 👍🏻💯 my favourite band/ group . Perfect musicians.
There's actually only a few songs that the Beastie boys play their own instruments on. Sabatage being one. Infact is the only one I know of for sure where they played. They had been at it since the mid eighties but I'm afraid they are most definitely *NOT* playing their own instruments on 90% of their songs. Including this one.
I was lucky to have heard this song when I was 14... I am 42 now, and Big Beastie Boy fan. It's just nice to see people re discovering jewels from the past that were truly timeless and ahead of their time. Producers included...
Your mom is crazy cool! This came out in '92 before filters and all that. This video was mad off the wall. Beasties are OGs, pioneers, innovators, trend setters, game changers. They were way ahead of their time. Like way.
I saw them in 1993 when they were touring on this record. They played at a little spot that used to be a roller skating rink. It was in Glen Burnie Maryland. Great show.
That's the look I had on my face in my student room back in the 90s when I first saw this video on the Swedish music video channel ZTV. The next day I bought the album "Check Your Head" at Musikörat in Uppsala, Sweden. Germund, who worked there at the time, said "Aaaaah... Beeeeastie" when I asked for it. Then I knew I was in for a winner.
Whats so cool about the Beasties is they mastered combining rap with rock and every song was unique. I was a Beastie freak in 87 and Ill Listen to them when Im in a nursing home at 97
I was about 15 when their first album came out and now I'm 50. I have known about them since day one. It's cool to see other people finally learning about the awesomeness that they are.
Incredible track and one of my absolute favorites of theirs. They often used distortion on their voices to give it that edgy effect. A lot of rock and industrial bands like Ministry, Nine Inch Nails, etc do the same thing. Often, the more fuzzed out, the more edgy the sound. Loved your reaction and positive energy!
This is the album where they started playing their own instruments again, so if you like the beat that’s the three of them playing guitar, bass, and drums, and then they have a keyboard/organ player named Money Mark. There’s some samples too, but I’m not sure exactly what’s a sample and what’s their own sound. But really whether they were playing instruments or using drum machines and samples, I think their contributions on the music side of things is usually more impressive than what they did on the mic. They produced or co-produced a ton of their music.
The first album was produced by Rick Rubin (Paul Revere was from that album). The second one by The Dust Brothers (Shake your Rump). The others are produced by the Beastie Boys and by Mario Caldato/Mario C. - Tracks like So What'cha want, Sabotage, Intergalatic. Most of the beats are from jam sessions they recorded and samples, but in Hello Nasty (Intergalatic is from that album) Adrock made some beats
So glad you loved it! And I'm pretty sure I had every one of those outfits in high school, LOL!! Try out "Body Moving" if you want to get your dance on, for real!
Have seen this reaction for 1year now so many Times, and I love it all the Time. Remeber when this song came out and I was Breakdancing and work as a dj so well 😅 So wonderful to se this. Greetings from Sweden ❤
You gotta listen to some of the Beastie Boys funk instrumentals!!! They were so much more than a hip hop group, they played punk, jazz, funk, etc...great musicians!
Definitely check out some live show by them. They did a legendary concert for MTV in Glasgow, Scotland in the late 90s with DJ plus band and effortlessly swintched between instruments and MCing, punk and hip-hop - it's high energy all the way through. (And don't be irritated it's deliberately filmed in black and white)!
They produced all their on stuff. Licensed w/ Rubin, Paul's /the Dust Bros the next 2 rap albums w/ Mario C and the last 2 rap albums the did on their own. The 3 of them each bring beats in and then they work them out together, they also write the lyrics together. They come from a Do It Yourself scean. They said it would be weird to have other people make their Art. So for the most part they take the photos or their friends do, MCAs alter ego Nathaniel Hornblower directed almost all the videos. If it's got their name on it they did it. In the 1990s they owned a a clothing company called XLarge it was like the supreme of the 90s. They also had two labels Brooklyn Dust and Grand Royal.
Those three make the beats they actually know how to play instruments so anytime you hear guitar and drums in the background and the bee it’s probably them
Straight fire... A lot.. A LOT of people slept on this when it 1st came out bcz of the grunge wave.. that's my opinion. Love this and GHETTO ROCK by MOS DEF.👍
Their voices had a reverb, a distortion and probably some other effects to color the delivery. They didn’t want it to be clear. They wanted it loud like a boombox blasting in your ear. Nobody was like the Beastie Boys,
Jayy this was a DISS song to 3rd base who DISSED them because they left DEF JAM record label I do know they play alot of instruments as far as the beats don't know if it was still Rick Ruben or someone else but yea love you're channel and thank you're mom for me these guys are number 1 in my top 5
I had tickets to see Beastie Boys and RATM in Darien Lake, but the show got postponed because Mike D broke his collarbone. Then RATM broke up and it never happened. Still hurts to this day lol
FYI They make their own beat and play the instruments; guitar drums ect. I know thats hard for this new generation to understand sadly. You had to have real skill back then. Nowadays, most artists just supply the image and attitude and nothing more.
The look on ur face during beastie boys is priceless....
3 mics and one DJ by the beastie boys.
Top tune pal
*MCs
"The beat" is them actually playing instruments.. their catalog is diverse and incredible.
Not to correct you, but the beat is built on a looped sample of a Southside Movement song from the mid-seventies. Granted, we all know the Beastie Boys play instruments (including drums) in a great many of their tracks, but damn they sure know how to make deadly use of samples too.

These boys played their instruments too!
Momma has great taste in music, beastie came out in 1984 and took hip hop by storm
I was lucky to have heard this song when I was 14... I am 42 now, and Big Beastie Boy fan. It's just nice to see people re discovering jewels from the past that were truly timeless and ahead of their time. Producers included...
Beastie Boys are just ultra talented and creative.
I’m a 57 year old white dude and love your channel Jayy! You should check out their live performances on Dave Letterman or SNL. Peace n Love!
Released. 1991 - US. Vinyl -. So hard to believe this is *33 years old!!!* 😊 I really miss old time hip hop!
Thank you for reacting to the guys. RIP MCA

Whats so cool about the Beasties is they mastered combining rap with rock and every song was unique. I was a Beastie freak in 87 and Ill Listen to them when Im in a nursing home at 97
You got it my man.
I was about 15 when their first album came out and now I'm 50. I have known about them since day one. It's cool to see other people finally learning about the awesomeness that they are.

Absolutely perfect 😎✌ Yeah, You can't front on that
RIP MCA... Loved these dudes... Beastie Boys ruled the scene when their first album came out in 86. I was 13.
Takes me back to the 90s.. really good track.

Beasties never lie. They might've been wrong from time to time. But these dudes don't lie. I like that. Well done!
Loved it in '92, love it now. Fucking rocks hard.

Beastie Boys FOREVER
3 boys from Brooklyn created a whole new genre of music.
That song so great man. On every level
Mike D was pretty much my idol in high school when this music came out. MCA is clearly the best MC of the group though.
“No Sleep til Brooklyn”, “She’s Crafty”- please Jayy- 💜💫✌️
Definitely check out some live show by them. I think this is the best use of a fuzz box I’ve ever heard
...and they played instruments in Ill Communication and Check Your Head...bros showed us how to do it, RIP Yauch.
“i’m cooler than cucumber in a bowl of hot sauce”
Catchy beat for sure. Heard this in a video game Rock Band 2.
Never played rock band
The hours I spent dancing to this at the club in college
This is the 90's anthem.
Adrock and MCA did a ton of their beats, and for this album, and the next two Mario C would stitch the final production together
They produced all their on stuff. Licensed w/ Rubin, Paul's /the Dust Bros the next 2 rap albums w/ Mario C and the last 2 rap albums the did on their own.

That mic was something they found in a kids store, that's why it sound like that. Enjoying the marathon. ☝️☝️😀
Their voices had a reverb, a distortion and probably some other effects to color the delivery. They didn’t want it to be clear. They wanted it loud like a boombox blasting in your ear. Nobody was like the Beastie Boys,
Don’t fuck with the Beasties. They are geniuses.
Intense beat grabs you 🔥
Shes on it. by the Beasties
Now this is my favorite young lady
I love the B Boys!!!
Root Down is my jam!
HEY LADIES AND THE NEW STYLE BEASTIE BOYS THANKS JAYY
When you watch a beastie boy video think 70s,80s Bruce Lee, godzilla, starsky and hutch.
If you haven't decided yet on tomorrows Beastie Boys songs these are some good ones. Pass The Mic, Root Down, Open Letter to NYC.
So much awesome..
You do realise Adam Yauch /MCA makes Beastie Boys mostly make there own videos this is his
all who are watching will most likely start to bop their heads at the same time as you
The change ups are insane..
Too cute!
This is the 80s. Enjoy it. It aint ever gonna happen again. AND > they play theyre OWN INSTRUMENTS. WHAT? ....try that at home.... Subscribed

I had tickets to see Beastie Boys and RATM in Darien Lake, but the show got postponed because Mike D broke his collarbone. Then RATM broke up and it never happened. Still hurts to this day lol
That beat was performed on real instruments by The Beastie Boys themselves. It's not a sample.

Finally ‘scribed. 😁
you should react to the Beastie Boys Shadrach video. a masterpiece!
They didn't do the something every 🕙 that's what made them special
fyi, it is distortion on their vocals that make them sound heavy and rough.
Good Song
