Finnally, a Synth4ever demo featuring the great Yamaha SY77! I own one, and I can say that there are no other synths that sound exactly like these synths do, for digital they have this fuzzy and crisp, lofi and cold-warm character that is so unique to them. Thanks for uploading.
Thanks! It definitely has that airy, low-fi quality to some of the patches which makes it sound very nostalgic in a way. I'm guessing it's the AWM samples, since I noticed similar when I had the TG33.
I agree with Snupps! Great upload! And let’s not forget the Envelope Generators of the SY77. A joy to let the operators loop and create the most wonderful textures😁! Thank you for sharing! -Devin
NICE! I had an SY22 back in the day. 12 bit samples and 2 operator FM sounds, if I recall. I liked that synth. The SY77 was way better. Love the channel!
One of my favorites. I got it originally because of an interview I read with Front 242. But it has so many great tones and a huge library. I still enjoy spotting it when listing to old Dead Can Dance or Tear Garden tracks from the era. Mine is in decent shape.
Didn't I just see you at the Andromeda demo? Not my fault...revisiting my SY77 after almost a 10-year hiatus (studying many other music machines for awhile), rediscovering how amazing this sounds even next to my other equipment. This was like stepping onto a starship when I first got it, these sounds (as you are demonstrating) were (are) amazingly beautiful. I have the "Wavestation" disk-but then I think i hear a few of those sounds in your demo. I owned one of the first off the truck, before they hit the stores in 1989...had a connection, we'll leave it at that. amazing when you consider how few are the factory sample-based sounds. But then, like the Alesis...there was genius working on these. I gigged with it for 5 years, created complete soundtracks for most of my huge shows as a school music director, including a few full broadway style productions (yeah!) with the arrangements I created with it for 20 years-and when I finally killed it, I promptly bought another used around the year 2000 or so, and kept creating on it. So many of these sounds-are its signature, I am currently archiving on disc all my arrangements I've done-at least 4 Cd's worth of audio tracks I never published. I also have just about every commercial disk and public domain-Sound Source, Valhalla etc. I have heard this on movie soundtracks years back. With all my cutting edge equipment, this is still unique, you are aptly (and very nicely) demo'ing that fact. And despite the drubbing the "RCM" got, in the hands of the right programming-I can hear what it does. and I still think the ep's are the most unique I have ever heard, even considering my Rolands, Korgs, Alesis, my Kurzweil piano, Behringer ad nauseum. I've recreated some of the SY77 ep's for my Fusions, possible since it too has rather well-endowed FM programming capability. I feel sorry for the newbies who never had a chance to play it when it came out. This makes most so-callednew "analog" instruments sound like toys, I had to re-visit it to realize that. I Still can't duplicated some of these sounds with a Korg M3 and Alesis Fusion/Ion/Miniak. This has alot to do with the FM capabilities of this monster. So I have owned one of these for....wait for it....35 years...and I will have to put it in my will I suppose. Fine job.
Congrats, bro! This is the best presentation of presets that can be heard, probably due to your inventive musicality and inspiration by the sound features. I am also one of proud owners of SY77 and still use it, some newly edited sounds are even better. But anyway, your sound is recorded astonishly well, so this keyboard got the attention it deserves for sure.
Love it bro! MY homie Used to make to make fire beats with this and a yamaha RY-30 Drum machine. Glade you dropped this and my channels growing. Thanks for subscribing!
These are great patches indeed! Are they your creation? Would you share our sell them? I got a SY99 here. Love its airy top end, like with choir style patches or breathy synth pads...
Hey there, I believe they are presets -- when I did a factory reset when I first got it, they were still there. But yes, lots of airy top end on some of these sounds!
Back in the day I selected the Korg O1W instead but you cannot go wrong with either. Just get rid of the floppy, add memory and sliders and it would sell today. sub
Thanks 4 the demo! Much appreciated. Back in the time, I sold this synth in the music shop I've worked for. I wasn't a big Yamaha fan by then. Recently, I did buy a mint condition TG77 for an idiot price and oh boy this is a true vintage synthesizer!!! Came back alive in recent productions and releases... But, where can we get these presets???
Congrats on reacquiring! I had done a factory reset and these are standard patches I believe, because I've heard them in other SY77 videos. I assume they are same on TG77.
3:34 Hi 👍🏾What is the name of this Presets that sounds like a bell underwater or some submarine? I have been trying to find it for a while, thanks for this video
Sounds awesome! I just picked one up and it seems like it’s playing everything really low like two or three octaves . is there a simple way to master transpose besides going through each voice? I checked the manual and couldn’t figure it out.
Congrats! I found a post on a forum, the user suggests: "under the main utilities menu there should be a submenu about "tuning". go in there. default is +0. for one octave up or down go + or - 12 (12 half steps/octave)." If all else fails, do a factory reset.
So is this a cross breed between an FM and rompler synth right? If so, how complex is it to program and also how expensive are they nowadays or is there a rack version of this synth available?
Yes FM + AWM2 (samples). It's pretty deep and programming requires menu diving in the screen. Not that expensive, check sold prices on eBay and Reverb. Rack version is TG77.
Mine is in pretty rough shape. The low 3 white keys are missing and 2 of the plastic corners are gone. I think I will buy replacement keys and install them.
These synths actually clean up really nicely. I bought my SY77 from Goodwill and it arrived caked in 30+ years worth of cigarette tar and dust and grime but a whole roll of paper towels and a bottle of windex later it was looking brand new aside from some slight yellowing in the keys. Really shows you how durable these things are!
Plenty of other videos for that always show the same old piano, organ, clavichord, guitar tones, basically people just showing off their playing rather than what the keyboard can do 🤷🏾♂️

Thanks for sharing! Lots of classic sounds in this synth, for sure.
Mine is on the workbench right now. Tact switches, power supply, the usual. Can't wait !
I have a ‘77 but this is the most high definition recording I’ve ever heard of one
Thanks, it's just straight from synth into audio interface.
@Felis Pardus Just a small Presonus Firestudio Mobile. Plugged synth directly into Line inputs 3 & 4 on the back of the Presonus.
The SY77 is a beast! I've seen a few for sale lately and might pick one up after seeing this demo!
Yes it is, indeed!
Sound at 11:53 is magic!!!!!!! Especially in the low end wow! Thanks!
and 17:43!!! :O
Yes, very mystical! :)
Yea, I love that patch too, beautiful soundscape!

@@synth4ever hell ya u to boss!
One of the best synths ever created, especially digital one.
yes, lots of power in SY77 and S99 even today.
Very nice, what a beautiful instrument. Found one in a street market for 120€, total bargain 😁
Great deal

It has some lovely tones for sure.
Just got a TG77 few months ago 💪🏼
Nice!
I’ve got a sy55 the little brother and a lot of the awm2 sounds I recognise using the same samples, just without the fm
Cool, makes sense!

The patch of the minute 10:45 it remenbers me the sound combination used at the beginning introduction of Mr. Roboto from Styx.
Cool! I really like the bell sound, too.
Mine is resting for too long now. Time to get back to business! :)

sound called "Arianne" - ist a stack with saw FM pad and a low tambourine sample.

A bit of a pad monster?!
Definitely great for pads!
I wish there was someway to increase polyphony to 128 notes... That would be game over and would be awesome!
That would be nice!

Will Sy99 patches work on the SY77?
Bro una pregunta tengo una de ese pero se puede poner modo Piano?
Looks so crisp and new. How did you do that? Did you wash the keys with Peroxide?
It's actually in ok shape, I didn't wash the keys though... just how I got it.
Mine is in pretty rough shape. The low 3 white keys are missing and 2 of the plastic corners are gone. I think I will buy replacement keys and install them.

As with other Yamaha FM synths the only thing lacking is... an arpegiator!
nope. use your daw for this.
Great sounds. What editor did you use to come up with those?
Pretty sure they are presets!
I have seen things you wouldn't believe. Starships burning at the shoulder of Orion ..
... and watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate...
…all those … memories will disappear… like tears in the rain… time to die…
I like this synth, but it is just getting in the uncanny valley of cheesy sounds, where it’s nearly sounding like a piano etc but not quite there
3:01 What is the name of this sound?
I don't recall, but it's a preset so it will be on the synth.
Not my type of sound even though one of my favorite 90s artists used it on his records.
All good!
