  • Showcasing the Amazing DCS Flight Simulator and the F/A-18 Hornet, with full 6dof movement and virtual reality to combine for the ultimate home flight simulator experience.
    Watch the mission as my F/A-18 launches from the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71), attempts a bombing mission on an enemy factory, and then returns to land back on the carrier. The mission includes DCS' "Supercarrier" module for that extra dose of realism.

    Now I know what I'm saving for, I can still become a fighter jet pilot. A dream that I still have to fulfill, after all, I'm no longer the youngest. Thanks for the video. I remember it from the Amiga 500 back then, where I constantly had these problems landing on the aircraft carrier, but at some point I flew the F15 in my sleep and knew pretty much all of the machine's functions. Missions were no longer a problem.

      Welcome, nice to have a fellow Amiga Pilot as a viewer! I can tell you the carrier is much harder in DCS then it was back "in the day" on the Amiga. ALSO, they just released the F-15, so you can relive that as well. It really is an amazing experience and a dream come true for me personally. Just last night I was flying around Abu Dhabi, bounced over to the Tanker for some mid-air refueling... boogied down to the carrier and landed (on my third attempt this time), had the jet parked on the deck just in time to watch an awesome sunset with the cockpit up, engines off and the sound of the sea splashing off the ship. Was incredible. Let me know if you have any questions I can help you with... there are lots of videos on the channel as well. Also, stay tuned for new DOF Reality videos, I'll have a discount code in them to save you a few bucks. Thanks for the comment and good luck on your journey.

      I was there in 89, a Freshman in HIgh School and a CIil AIr Patrol Cadet at the time, to salute her departure from Alameda with my buddy's dad and older cousin both aboard (Hayward home of record), when she shoved off to circle the globe and re-port at No-Fuck, Vagina.
      Damned autocorrect.....it always does that.
      I mean, NORFOLK, Virginia.
      Yeah...that.
      CVN-65 was the first ship I ever toured and will forever be my mental image of what the Combat Navy looks, sounds, and feels like.
      I had oral surgery on the nImitz in the gulf after an evac from Doha in 2005, so I omitted "smells" from the comment above...since the Nimitz got me really well "read-in" on how stanky y'all can cruise around in boats. 😕
      I ended up my last 13 years flying Combat Rescue in the Flight Engineer seat of the very last f the last of the MC-130Ps out of Moffett Field (Post BRAC the Navy was a skeleton crew at best. 1,000 of us in the Pararescue unit (129th RW), a bit less Army, a Marine Cult Cell sized detachment called the Church of Ooh & Rahh (they liked to volunteer to observe golden flow piss tests) (I may have made that part up) (No, I did not apologize for making that part up) and NASA/AMES is all that's left there.

      Not knowing if I'd even like the motion platform so I didn't want the extra expense of the P6 because I just didn't know. Not buying the P6 is my biggest regret about buying this unit. If you are interested, I made a whole video about my purchase decision (ua-cam.com/video/YD8GFEptuTk/v-deo.html). As for the Buttkicker, I use a Gamer 2 and it just attaches to a bracket under the seat. Thanks for the view and the comment!

      @@GYGOtv I do have the Gamer2 but on my new AKRacking chair the shaft is not straight up and down, it has a bend in it so the Gamer2 Buttkicker won't work (at least it appears that way, more messing around necessary). As far as your purchase decision review, that was great... I also notice that in addition to the extra 4 degrees that the P6 provides, the P6 also has quicker motors to get the chair in position quicker during gaming... perhaps that would mean it's more "jerky" too but much more responsive to flight controls (in addition to being arcade quality motors). This really helps and I appreciate you pointing out this purchase-decision video for me. THANKS AGAIN and Subscribed and Thumbs Up !!!

    Ran into your channel by accident. What an amazing set up. Quick question about the dofreality since this is the first time ive seen one. how does it detect the game's motions? is it native or do you have to install a 3rd party addon into the DCS/MFS2020 to sync the rig to the game? thanks in advance.

    • @GYGOtv
      @GYGOtv  Рік тому

      Welcome Dudeinthesea... glad you found us!!! So the DOF Reality rigs use Sim Racing Studio software to read the telemetry from the game and apply it to the motion rig. Almost all sim games use telemetry, and worst case, you can use the SRS Software to simulate movement based on joystick movements if no telemetry is available. If you are really interested in this subject, I have 2 very in depth videos talking about how all this works part 1 ua-cam.com/video/pzi8G7T9p7A/v-deo.html part 2 ua-cam.com/video/LSStkqpIX_M/v-deo.html Hope that helps answer your question and thanks for watching!

    Great video, some questions in general. Did you do the sfu upgraded motors? I wonder if those come closer to the range of motion of the p6? Did your chair come with the system. I'm having a hard time finding a chair for the H3 that im considering (for MSFS and dcs). Do you have any real world small plane experience to compare? Many say its great while others say the way it pushes you around isnt realistic, so im confused. It looks like though, doing an upgrade to h6 might be involved if only doing h3 now. What sort of split keyboard is that in the video.

      Thanks for the questions Sky, Yes did the SFU and it did get me in line with the P6 according to our tests ua-cam.com/video/Vd5aCnDFRYI/v-deo.html The chair does not come with the unit so you can choose whatever fits you best. I haven't flown in a small plane is a long time but really you want to find something that is comfortable, and for me I wanted arm rests. Mine is a DXRacer King... but it was a lot of work to get it to mount. A lot of racers just go with buckets. I'd recommend you join the DOFBuilders Facebook group, there are lots of people to answer seat questions there for sure. The great thing about the motion is you can tune it how you want it... lots of motion or just a little. I'd guess that most of the detractors haven't taken the time to tune their motion and it probably is too much out of the box. Just like everything in life, takes time to get it right. I absolutely LOVE my motion rig! The keyboard is a KINESIS Freestyle Pro Split Keyboard amzn.to/3k3AJEy You can see my explanation of it here ua-cam.com/video/zlGQ3N_1LAg/v-deo.html ENJOY!!!

      When I look around slowly in "desktop mode", yes everything does blur... others have reported this as well. I don't have that issue in any games however so I don't worry about it. I feel like that has something to do with the foveated rendering software and that Varjo will clean that up eventually. I don't think my audio headset hits the frame, but our heads are likely built different from each other (unless you look like Gabe Newell too :)) and I haven't noticed any vibration. Is it possible to use the center mount for the stick while the wheel base is on? That's how my obutto is setup. All I have to do is unscrew the wheel for smooth transition between sims.

    • @GYGOtv
      @GYGOtv  Рік тому

      Hi E, I'm sure that would be possible somehow if you have a smaller chair and removable wheel. The DOF Reality Rig even has a center mount available. On mine, the chair is so big that there is not that much room and would be hard to get in and out. Plus I've always flown with a side stick from my desktop flying days so it is pretty natural for me. I've also seen others that remove the whole stick so they just have the base in the rig when getting in and out but I don't want to mess with reconfiguring every time. Hope that answers your question and thanks for watching.

      @GYGOtv  Рік тому +1

      Hi CamaroWarrior... Proud owner of a 1981 Z-28 here BTW! So realistically you can buy any seat you want to go with it. DOF Does that for 2 reasons... Different people have different wants in a seat (some like the pure racing shell type) and others prefer comfort and adjustability (like me). The second reason is it keeps shipping cost down on the units. I have an old DX Racer "King" on mine but it was a PAIN IN THE ASS to mount.(ua-cam.com/video/RNk-c88FNtA/v-deo.html) I'd recommend you join the DOF Reality Builders Facebook Group facebook.com/groups/1858593921047822 and ask them about seats and you will get a ton of answers from other owners who have tried different seats. I would recommend you add a slider also amzn.to/3xnmocH it helps a ton if other people use the rig. Hope that helps and good luck.

    couple of questions sir...Is that cable on your headset tethered to the ceiling and then to your PC and is there a version of that simulator with the flight stick in the center?

    • @GYGOtv
      @GYGOtv  2 роки тому

      Hi E Knight, thanks for watching! Yes those are just pully cables (amzn.to/3Oxgg7T) attached to the ceiling with 3M commander strip wire hooks (amzn.to/3S59ER2) and they run the VR headset cable to the PC. To answer your second question, you can customize the motion platform however you want. There is a center stick option, but with my steering wheel I wouldn't be able to get in the thing, so that is why I have a side stick.

    Flying the FA18, why not center joystick? is it possible with the H6?

    • @GYGOtv
      @GYGOtv  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Pat, thanks for the question. Simply a matter of space to be able to get in and out of it the way we have it customized (more info here if you are interested ua-cam.com/video/RNk-c88FNtA/v-deo.html). We moved the controls etc. forward for stability and a bigger seat so it is a bit of a squeeze to get into as is with the steering wheel and center section. The H6 can for sure use a center mount, and DOF even has the mount as an option when you buy the unit. Honestly wasn't that important to me because all my life I have flown flight sims with the stick next to my keyboard on my desk so it is pretty natural feeling for me to have a side stick. If I converted this over to exclusively a flight sim, I'd change it to center stick but I still like to race as well so no immediate plans for that. Hope that answers you question and thanks for viewing our content!

    • @GYGOtv

      Thanks Dariusz, appreciate you stopping by and leaving a comment. I totally get where you are coming from, but you can't really compare what you are seeing with how it feels, especially in a flight sim vs. racing. Flight is generally more subtle, so the movements just kind of flow into each other without lots of jerky movements that you can really see (except for the Catapult Launch and Wire Trap). What I can tell you is when you are actually in the chair it feels amazing. I'd say, it would be nice to have a few more degrees of movement (especially pitch), but even without that, it does a great job of tricking your brain into feeling like you are actually physically in a moving plane. Basically anything that "pulls you off the floor" and makes it NOT feel like you are sitting in an office chair in front of your desk has an amazing effect on immersion. That means even the most basic 2DOF system with just a little movement will still give you the effect of being in the vehicle. I hope that makes sense? Anyway, working on an upgrade that might help with the limited movement you are currently seeing. Stay tuned!

      @@GYGOtv Im on the same page with the OG, I am simming in an F16 and from working on them for my day job, when you do hard forward, aft, and jerk movements on the roll; does your brain get tricked when in VR for the jerk?

    • @GYGOtv
      @GYGOtv  Рік тому

      @@kgallowaypa Hi Kevin... Sorry I'm old so don't know what OG is, but I'll try to answer the best I can. You can pretty much set the platform to throw you around as hard as you would like if you want to. I've gotten shot down and feel like I'm on a bucking bull in the past. Whatever movements you do, it does trick your brain into believing it, at least for me. Of course there is no real G forces, but let me say it this way... It feel more like you are really flying vs. playing a video game. I hope that makes sense? Also, this video was done with the old Gearboxes, which have now been replaced with the SFU upgraded gears. They add about 50% more motion than before. So much so, that we had to do a ton of clearancing of the chassis because it was hitting itself. Basically these new gear boxes allow the rig to move at the maximum limits that it's physical geometry will allow. The pitch now measures up to 21 total degrees of movement which feels pretty awesome. If you want to see the difference the gearboxes make, watch this video comparison at the 5:21 mark ua-cam.com/video/Vd5aCnDFRYI/v-deo.html Hope that answer's your question and thanks for watching.

    • @GYGOtv
      @GYGOtv  2 роки тому +3

      Appreciate you stopping by and commenting. That is the problem, you can look at it and say well doesn't really look like it does much (although I don't know how you can say that about the cat launch). In reality when you are actually sitting in it in VR and you have the motion, it is enough to trick your brain into feeling like you are there in either a plane or a car. It is amazing how just the slightest movement can reinforce in your brain that you are in an actual vehicle instead of sitting in a chair at your computer desk. The motion produced for cars is far more frenetic than that of a plane, but it doesn't make it feel any less real... it is just a different sensation. I think the best way to sum it up is that the motion makes you feel more like you are in the vehicle than it feels like you are sitting at your desk. It is something you really need to experience instead of just "speculating" what it is like. I hope that makes sense?
