PREPARE TO *LIKE* & *SUBSCRIBE* AND *HIT IT* !! WHAT DID YOU ALL THINK OF SNW SEASON 1!!! I HAD A BLAST!!! Future Everyone had a nice little edge to them with Ortegas really undergoing the biggest transformation in my opinion while La'an became a hugger, Spock got hella more serious which is impressive for a Vulcan, and even Uhura has this more refined posture and degree of mannerisms that made her look and feel both older and wiser. We even got a few moments with Chapel in her own new uniform and she totally had those TOS vibes going on! M'Benga didn't change too much because...well...it's M'Benga and that man changes about as quickly as the orbit of a pair of binary pulsars. Such good acting all around this episode! I love how in some shots on the bridge, they matched the lighting on Pike’s face to the lighting on Kirk’s face on close ups in the original (where the lighting seems to focus on their eyes, but keeps the rest of their face in shadow)
A great finale to a wonderful first season. Great writing where Spock owes Pike a debt of gratitude, I think this is exactly why Spock in "The Cage" risks his commission with Starfleet to take Pike to live out his days with Vina.
Perfect episode! Perfect amount of callbacks and just great acting. Great story. As someone who has been watching Star Trek since its inception, I can't tell you how much I was crying watching this, and I hope we can see more of Paul as Kirk next season with a bit of some blond hair. Loved it all. Especially cried at the eyebrow thing, oh! That was an awesome episode! And that ending, ahhhh!!! Can't wait for the next season, hope it isn't delayed or anything, heard they already filmed it all. This show was what Star Trek is about, the good, the bad, and the best. I need more seasons. Keep them coming Paramount!!!!
I just wanna say the timeline didn't necessarily change. You might have missed that they said that Una got arrested 7 years ago which would be now. So this was about to happen anyway.
It also affirms that, for all their differences, Kirk and Pike at their core are the same, since, at different points in time, it was said to both of them and they are both deserving of his respect
Thanks for the reaction! Fantastic episode! It's basically an "It's a wonderful life/A Christmas Carol" episode, mixed with a "time travel" episode; where we get to see Captains Kirk and Pike work together in a reconfigured version of a classic Star Trek episode. What an absolute treat! Furthermore, this episode could not have been more perfectly suited or pertinent for Captain Pike. He is well on his way to overcoming his troubling preoccupation with his own future and we're shown why he, ultimately, chooses Kirk as his replacement. Again, fantastic! Cheers!
Una's arrest was always going to happen so I don't think it means that the timeline has changed. We only saw her in the one episode in TOS and according to Discovery, this crew has already gone to Talos IV so, no, the timeline hasn't changed
@@Funk_Reactions I think the change that will happen from the future Pike saw is that, this time, he's gonna fight for her, maybe even get Court marshalled for a while before being pardoned because he was really angry and it seemed that he was willing to go rogue and maybe all of Enterprise will go rogue with him, because of it, we'll see what happens.
It would have been nice if they had a throw away line on Farragut where Kirk talks to La'An and, considering her rank of Cmdr., calls her XO or #1 before the battle with the Romulans. Maybe she would be stationed in auxiliary control to explain why she wasn't on the bridge with Kirk.
What started this whole alternate timeline is because Nobody was there for that accident to happen. All the children never showed up and Pike was also not there like in his future vision or the TOS version. And sort of like the reverse that happened in Into Darkness, what happened to him was placed on Spock instead.
BTW Kirk had several duty stations before he became Capt. of Enterprise. He even taught at the academy while he was still a Lt.. In 'Where no man Has gone Before' (the 2nd pilot), Gary Mitchel says he was warned by an upper classman, "Watch out for Lt Kirk. In his class you either think or sink.". So Kirk is making sure to get all the right boxes checked to move up the chain in command.
There is another change between this episode's Romulans and Balance of Terror's Romulans that makes a difference. In TOS' version the Romulan XO is older than the Capt. and from the dialog they have served together for a long time and are friends. Think Adama and Teigh in BSG. In this the XO is a young officer and as results play out less willing to follow the Capt's lead. If they had not replaced the XO there's a good chance this would have ended much like the original episode. Or at least there would have been a time gap before the Romulans declared war, giving the Federation time to prepare, if Pike let the Romulan ship return to the Empire.
The timeline is the same, Una Riley Number One, always was going to be arrested. Pike cannot save his future without starting a war, trading his life for Spock’s, but the Enterprise crew may be able to help Una in season 2
The after show review was good. Ethan Peck said he was channeling a older Spock more logic. Plus this timeline Kirk hadn't had the benefit of serving with the Enterprise crew to develop the Kirk we know.
I really love the copyright-avoidance technique you're using: when you're commenting, you drop in things like Domino's Pizza commercials into the background.
Spock, McCoy and Kirk never became friends! So this Kirk never becomes the William Shatner Kirk, without his 2 friends influence. Pike changed a lot to try and save himself
Remember, we only saw her in the pilot Star Trek the cage only place we saw number one. We never know what happened until now. It’s all up in the air. They can do anything with her a season two of strange new worlds
So are the Romulans in the nuetral zone or in Romulan space? I thought the Nuetral zone was a buffer, this seems to be more of a grass strip on the side of a road.
The only real information we have about the time line, post the Cage, is that presented in the various shows set after Enterprise and before TOS. Since #1's only appearance was in the Cage we don't know what happened to her other than she was no longer on Kirk's Enterprise. From the point of view of having seen season 2, I'd like to see a reboot of TOS with La'An as Kirk's XO and Spock as science officer. I think #1 would make an excellent commander of her own ship.
Spock hasn't died just yet, although with how heavily injured he is it doesn't bode well for his career in Starfleet. This is possibly between 7 years and as high as a decade before Star Trek II.
I think too many fans say they want Kirk, when it's Shatner (or more accurately his mannerisms) they really want. And that is unfair to any actor who takes on the role. Kirk's character is smart, brave, takes chances, and is a ladies man. Nothing I've seen here suggests this Kirk isn't the same.
Funniest thing, my mom used to do this with left over pasta too. But only with egg and salt. We didn´t really had parmegan all the time at home. I just freaking love Pike. Why is the actor so fucking good? And the writing. Even TNG sucked in it´s first season. Here i had really no episode that wasn´t working for me. Only some where a bit slower than others. Can´t wait for season 2.
In the Farragut he was a lieutenant but because that salt creature incident all his crew were killed including the Captain so as he was the only survivor he was made Captain of the ship. But that is TOS story. I don't know if he also met the salt vampire in this incarnation, or because he didn't become Captain of the Enterprise he instead became Captain of the USS Farragut instead.
Salt vampire wasn't during his time on the Farragut. You're thinking of the cloud creature I think. Still, despite getting the perpetrator wrong, you're correct about the events that transpired I believe.
@@filthycasual8187 I think your right, i believe the Salt Vampire was from Buck Rogers as i watched the 2 shows back to back in the mid 80's maybe thats why i thought of it as a Salt Vampire instead of the cloud creature.
Loved this finale so much. So good I forgive them for the Sombra-class in E9 just being another Connie. With The Expanse off the air SNW is easily the best scifi on TV, and obviously the best of New Trek so far.
The end just means she gets out of prison or whatever and back into service between this and The Cage. We don't even know if she's going to end up in prison. Season 2 might get its own Measure of a Man wherein Chris argues for her in court. No timeline changes needed.

I always loved this episode because it shows no matter how great a captain Pike is he just was t the right captain for this mission
A great finale to a wonderful first season. Great writing where Spock owes Pike a debt of gratitude, I think this is exactly why Spock in "The Cage" risks his commission with Starfleet to take Pike to live out his days with Vina.
The Menagerie, 'The Cage' was the before SNW segments only. But I agree with your point.
This is a balance of terror from TOS, and other old episodes of Star Trek mixed together. I love your optimism and hope like Gene intended it.
The timeline is still ok.. The fact #1 is now arrested explains why she was not part of Kirks Crew.
Yea true but didn’t expect that though lol

Paul Wesley mirrored more of Shatner's mannerisms and speech pattern as Kirk than Chris Pine ever did.
I agree. I don't know why so many people complain about paul wesley's performance (though he is quite small compared to Shatner lol)
he did fine, but i found him being more like Pine than Shatner. Simply maybe because Pine's performance is much more recent than Shatners.
"In a different reality I could have called you friend.. "
It also affirms that, for all their differences, Kirk and Pike at their core are the same, since, at different points in time, it was said to both of them and they are both deserving of his respect
The timeline didn't change. We Knew it was going to happen eventually since episode 3. Also "Bird of Prey" is both Romulan and Klingon.
Thanks for the reaction!

Balance of terror with a mix of tapestry and yesterdays enterprise, perfect
The "BATTLE FLEET" is so completely James T Kirk that I was laughing out loud.

I'm loving Paul Wesley as Kirk. I think he is killing it.
Agreed!
They don't officially say, but I've seen speculation that La'An was Farragut's XO in this episode.

lots of people make that assumption Kirk talks in a deliberately slowed format. But watch any episode...there are gaps. But he talks pretty quickly
great reaction ty!
Thanks for watching and for the support.
I really love the copyright-avoidance technique you're using: when you're commenting, you drop in things like Domino's Pizza commercials into the background.
omg you don't know who Paul Wesley is from Vampire Diaries??
I know how lol, I asked my wife and she said on wow. Vampire Diaries is her show.
Its 7 years before Pikes accident. So this happened before Pike changed his timeline.
Spock, McCoy and Kirk never became friends! So this Kirk never becomes the William Shatner Kirk, without his 2 friends influence.

I wouldn't say a remake more of an alternate version of A Balance of Terror.
Yep exactly!!! Word by word in most parts!!

I'd say The Orville has just been as good if not better, especially this season but I've loved them both so much
Jim Carey as Kirk. Alllllrighty then. LOL!
Lol I want the only one who thought that lol. I should of said that in the video lol
Balance of Terror (s1, e14) came before Operation Annihilation (s1, e29) so Sam Kirk should still be alive during this encounter.
Yea I looked it up after the fact lol. Good catch

Who was the girl Pike kissed in the beginning of this episode?
no you need to rewatch cause this wasn't verbatim
Kirk... doesn't really... talk like this... on... Star Trek.
crap crap crap
