    I’d much rather see “Legacy” than the Starfleet Academy show, or the Section 31 show. If paramount were smart, they would let Legacy be the new show and completely scrap the Academy idea. All they have to do is listen and they will make the right choice.

      I disagree on scrapping academy. It needs to be rebuilt from the ground up and distance itself from STD all together.
      Leave Section 31 out of it cause that will be enjoyable.
      As for listening to fans... that always sounds like a great idea but the practical application of it fails more often than not.

      I have no interest in the Star Fleet Academy show. What are they gonna do? Maybe Animal House in the 23rd century with holograms of Bugger and Otter? And Section 31 is too creepy, the sneaky arm of Star Fleet does not need to be highlighted any more than they already have.

    • @ViroVV
      @ViroVV 7 місяців тому

      @@michaelwildfyre6349 Academy COULD have been great for what it would be. But it WONT be in STDs time period because the academy will be a completely different thing. They will be focused on rebuilding the academy and that is not going to be interesting. (They also have not really shown a lot of skill at projecting future tech either)
      What Academy SHOULD have been is either in the lost era, (as a future segue to a lost era show) or TNG-PIC 03 era. The main purpose should have been focused on more of the YA audience and it should have had a feel like many YA shows of going off to college, meeting new people, breaking rules, everybody "shipping" each other.
      Im thinking something in line with a softer first half of Starship troopers.. All while getting a good look at the actual training cadets would have to go through for SF.
      Now that obviously would not be for every star trek fan, But it WOULD have been perfect for a CW type show (back when CW was still CW) and it would have helped further expand the fan base, which is obviously what they want/need to do.
      As for Section 31... I mean come on, seriously? Yes that absolutely NEEDS to be examined and we are only getting a tv movie out of it.
      Which S31 has MUCH more fertile ground to explore than the other premise they were toying with which was a Khan story which is every bit as dreadful as you think either STA or S31 can possibly be. You remember the one that they have to keep retconning because of the timeperiods and Eugenics war/WW3 chronology.
      Which would also require recasting Khan and sorry but I dont see finding anyone good enough to fit that bill. Especially with modern hollywoods obsession to not "culturally appropriate" which would now see the Character of Khan be re appropriated again, First from a Mexican, to a Euromutt Englishman, to almost certainly a red dotted Indian or Sikh so he could finally be aligned with what the lore says he is.
      Which the biggest problem with this gen of trek is creating more inconsistencies and lore holes than already existed. Well that and their ability to further fuck up Klingons more than they already had. (really its all alien species requiring heavy prosthetics)
      Look.. Its scifi. They can write what ever they want/need. The question is if they have a plausible narrative to draft that properly fits the universe. Both STA and S31 have potential for that but they are already showing wrong direction with Academy and they have not shown much skill with doing dark themes anywhere near as dark as they need to be. So It feels like Academy is going to only really serve to undo much of the goodwill they earned from PIC03.
      EDIT: Example., They could tie a lot of loose threads together by completely retooling Academy, Do kinda what I proposed and make the focus of it on Morgan Bateson and the Lost Era. Gives tht picture of SFA being the thing all young people strive to be a part of, Explores conflicts from the Lost Era like Kitomer and the Cardassian First contact/border wars, ultimately ending with Bateson getting command of the Bozeman. They would either recast the character, Or they could do a dark animated show if they could get Grammar to do it. Though I figure he costs too much now to be viable and they would probably recast it to do live action anyway.

    Bringing back the Enterprise D was the greatest move ever. It brought tears to my eyes! ❤ If they could just build on that and go forward with already established characters the audience is connected with. Seven of Nine as a Captain is a perfect continuity, while establishing Jack Crusher, Rafi, the LaForge kids and new crew would be easy.
    The most important thing to do, would be to finally revert to writing episodes, and I mean it! No more 20 Episode Cinemaesque interwoven story archs, but 1-2 episode stories about people living on the Enterprise and exploring the galaxy. Good, relatable storytelling. And we know it works, because "The Orville" and finally "Strange New Worlds" prove how you can keep up Roddenberry's World building, the Enterprise and integrate characters into the Star Trek universe. 👍🏻🙂

      An interesting idea, but I can't see the folks behind the franchise supporting it, even it if makes sense to us. If the technology of the day means Federation doesn't have to worry about paying for things, then there are few why something like that couldn't happen (for example, folks don't like you stealing stuff from museums), but a show based on that core makes sense to me. As hidebound as fandom can be, along with some of the Trek creative team, there is no reason it couldn't be based on a ship that isn't named Enterprise.

      Seeing the Enterprise D was a treat, but the rest of what you said wouldn't make sense. For a start, Seven of Nine as captain wouldn't bring in a big audience. She doesn't have the personality to the sell the show. The Orville was a comedy genre that worked very well. As for Strange New World, it suffers from rushed scenes and disorganized writing. Nowadays, Star Trek is a corporate cash cow. If it flops on TV, they know they have a loyal following that will buy their merchandize and will generate huge revenue from sponsorship.

    I wouldn't say Star Trek Picard was a thrilling journey at least for the first two seasons. The third season was awesome though and all the more impressive given its austere budget. And it didn't really end on a cliff hanger. The story was complete, and it was the perfect send off for the TNG crew. Yeah, it teased the possibility of a spin off, but that is a lot different, and they did it in such a way so that even if we don't get more it felt complete. All that said besides financial problems, I can say, knowing the behind-the-scenes politics that gave us Picard season 3, it was a fluke and probably won't happen again. Matalas got carte blanche for Picard S3 because no one else wanted to complete the obligatory final season. I can assure you that they learned ZERO lessons from this.

    Legacy makes more sense than the Starfleet Academy, which is a sequel to Discovery. The Section 31 project sounds more like a movie vs a TV series. Unless Netflix decides to continue PRODIGY past the second season Paramount doesn't have that one to worry about. Therefore, that just leaves SNW and LOWER DECKS. I think that fans have proven that we will keep up with Star Trek no matter what. Let's hope that someone at Paramount doesn't kill Star Trek the way that Disney and Kathleen Kennedy did Star Wars.
    P.S. IF Paramount is $500,000,000 in debt, I doubt that it was because of Star Trek. Maybe they should review some of their other projects.

      Not ALL ST have your taste, but TNG was more popular when it was on new than any of the other series...however that owed a lot to brand popularity of TOS and two decades of reruns for young world audiences. TNG on it's own as an unknown franchise might have made one year, it it was ever even picked up after the pilot.
      I don't know what ALL fans want. Some love the gimmicky shows, some love cartoons, some love space battles, some love deeper exploration plots, some love alternate Earth visits, some romance episodes, some even soap opera romance, some not at all.
      As it is they have a SNW and Academy and a TNG era cartoon to make about 30 episodes total. That pretty much is a 1960s to 1990 season of eps....split between three casts.

      @@STho205 Sorry, my Vulcan friend. I probably should have specified "TNG era" Star Trek show, in what I like to term, the prime Star Trek universe. (TOS to Voyager.) Not strictly TNG. TNG was a direct continuation of TOS that really worked (and wasn't a different timeline) DS9 continued it from there, as did Voyager, (but less so, because they were essentially a reboot, hurled millions of light years away from the galaxy they'd built.) During the TNG era, I had friends, and people that I had met, who had never watched Star Trek before, getting excited about it. Star Trek was bigger than ever. Those were the most popular years in the franchise and represent what most long time fandom in Star Trek has been at this point. That fandom has endured for good reason, and adds new members to it's ranks, to this very day. Do ALL Star Trek fans want the optimism and the cerebral nature that influenced TOS and continued all the way through to Enterprise? Maybe not, but MOST do. As evidenced by the popularity of both Picard Season 3 and Lower Decks, and the early cancellation of Discovery. The final setup at the end of Picard Season 3 aka "Legacy" was the most exciting premise for a new series that I've seen in a while. Unfortunately we'll probably never see it. My point is, I'm not surprised Paramount are in debt. I'm just frustrated that Paramount can't see WHY they are in debt. So, your logic is correct, not ALL could possibly want that, but I think most would. Live Long and Prosper, my friend, and keep Trekkin'.

    I'd love to see a series that actually has characters from TNG, DS9, Voyager & Picard as regulars. The 3 main series all existed at the same time but has mostly felt very separate. I want a series that incorporates characters from all of them. Take a trip to DS9, get assigned a mission by Admiral Janeway. Have Worf and B'Lanna meet. Have Crusher, Bashier and the doctor from Voyager have to get together to solve a plague ravaging the Federation. Bring back Naomi Wildman and B'Lanna's daughter to the franchise. I want and expanded universe. Give us the Avengers of Star Trek and let everyone be a part of it. They spent 15 years creating an interconnected universe of characters so, let's use them

    • @paulwhite6745
      @paulwhite6745 7 місяців тому

      Why? There's nothing in canon that says the TOS Enterprise NCC-1701 was of the newest or most advanced class at the time, and she was certainly never referred to as the 'Federation flagship' at any point in TOS. The hero ship doesn't always have to be the biggest or most powerful or newest or most advanced ship in the fleet. Sometimes heroism is about overcoming the odds and winning out despite being at a disadvantage. That said, I also wouldn't gave made Titan A the Enterprise G. If there had to be a name change, I'd have made Titan the USS Jean-Luc Picard, not the Enterprise. But at the end of the day, whatever her name, she's worthy enough to be a hero ship if Legacy ever gets made.

      @@paulwhite6745 Maybe not the flag ship in TOS but that was retconned in Strange New Worlds in which the Enterprise is the flag ship so that argument no longer holds up.
      As for TOS it is canon that the Constitution class was the most advanced class at the time and some sources say biggest. We haven’t seen anything bigger in the early TOS era. We only see bigger during the time of the movies when they start replacing the aging.. flag ship.
