ABOUT TODAYS VIDEO: What To Feed Dogs
7 important tips that will help your dog to good health, reduce chronic health problems and bring some nutritional joy into your dog's life for the long term.
And remember, if you’re happy with the regular kibble you're feeding, then incorporating even some of these suggestions will benefit your dog, it doesn’t have to be all or nothing, just do the best you can and your dogs improvements will spur you on to do more for them.
No1 It's important to know that commercial packet food for dogs such as kibble is a shelf-stable product that has no live enzymes due to its industrial cooking process.
No2 Try not to overfeed your dog. If they're over weight, reduce meals by 10% daily for a month and then re-check your dogs weight and body shape.
No3 Coconut oil is one of the very best super-food medicines you can give to your dog. Coconut oil’s health benefits derive from its special MCFAs (medium-chain fatty acids). These fatty acids have the benefit of being powerfully antibiotic with no side effects.
Serve a 1 teaspoon for every 10-15lbs of body weight daily - simply add to your dog's food and reduce the feeding size a little to compensate.
No4 Give your dog a good source of Omega-3 fatty acids to go alongside the coconut oil. Fish oil is the most common but has many disadvantages, one being that it's an unstable oil and goes rancid very quickly which then means health problems. Use and excellent alternative choice such as hemp oil which contains a variety of fatty acids, plus antioxidants and phospholipids.
It's recommended to give your dog a level teaspoon per 1lb of dog food.
No5 If your dog drinks a lot of water daily, they're dehydrated. Kibble contains around 12% moisture while most whole foods contain around 80% moisture and dogs simply don't take on enough water to compensate the amount of kibble they eat.
No6 If your dogs digestive system is unstable, for example, your dog has a delicate stomach, gas, belching, diarrhea, yeast outbreaks or skin allergies, the first thing to do is introduce your dog to probiotics.
Kefir can be found at your local supermarket and it has a tangy, refreshing taste. Simply add some to your dog’s daily meal by adding a 1/4 cup or 60ml per 25lb or 12kg of your dogs weight.
Powders are convenient and simply added to food.
There are many brands available and by far the best one I've researched over the years is Pet Ultimates Probiotics for dogs. It has an excellent class leading count of 22 species of bacteria and is USA made. It includes enzymes critical to senior dogs especially and reduces gas, it has zero fillers, it contains nothing artificial, it includes a prebiotic inulin base which helps to feed the probiotic bacteria once inside your dogs gut.
For dogs up to 50lbs: give 1 scoop daily added to food
And for dogs over 50lbs: give 2 scoops daily added to food
And I'll leave a link to it in the description below.
No7 To really boost your dogs overall health long term and reduce chronic inflammation in the body and help resolve health issues such as diarrhea, allergies, leaky gut, arthritis, ear infections, UTI's, digestive problems and hot spots, feed your dog a healthier kibble diet.

Hey Dan! First, THANK YOU for all your educational videos...I was SO sick of hearing EVERYONE (including professionals) say that you should not feed a dog ANYTHING but kibble, it is bad for them. I knew in my heart and my mind that that could NOT be true. I've been making my dog food for a few years now. I'm grateful for you coming out and educating people about it. I'm just trying to get my dogs diet perfect and I just had a couple questions for you. I have a 1and 1/2 yr old pit bull. He weighs 90 lbs. I was wondering about how much meat should I be giving him per meal if he's fed twice a day? I cook his food, it's not raw. I've been doing about 3/4a lb to a lb. Also, I was going to order that green vibrance, I think it's called, but I came across this... the ingredients were almost identical with a few missing, also different amounts. I was wondering if you could check it out and let me know if it's safe and how much I should give him. I noticed he's been chomping on grass more lately. It's called greens blend Antioxidant by Amazing Grass (sweet berry)....thank you!💕

Fantastic dogs, love Pits. Seems like a good greens, it's this one right: amzn.to/461p2Vo
He'll need more like 2lb daily, that's food altogether for the day. And I'd fast him Sundays, no food for 24 hrs just water.
Most dogs, even raw fed eat grass, it's fine, they know what they need.

Do you have any idea why my pup would not be eating as much?? She is a 12 week old blue heeler. I bought her the Nature's Logic Lamb that you recommended. She used to be on Canidae dog food, which is what breeder fed her. I'm just a tad concerned that she's not getting enough food daily. I even try spicing things up by adding other foods occasionally such as Saur Kraut, white rice, etc. I give her half a hardboiled egg occasionally as well, which she eats.

    • @DanScott1

Your right with what your doing by adding some fresh food to the mix. That's just what she wants more of... naturally.
Don't use white rice, get brown and mash it well before adding to the meal. Eggs great, sardines great, veg great, saur kraut great. Add these daily is best. Plus some probiotics: amzn.to/3bdrVb2

Hi, I’m wondering if you’ve had any success treating sebaceous cysts in dogs using diet? Our dog gets so many cysts and they eventually rupture and she has to have surgery to take them out. We don’t know how to stop them forming and have tried so many things. She eats kibble but we add blueberries, pumpkin and probiotics. Hi Dan
I have a couple of questions.
The first one is about my neighbours dog, for the past three days there has been blood in his stool and after his 5th poop this morning blood was dripping down out of his bum? He hasn't eaten any bones, his owner did say he had had this before but it went away after two days, the vet gave him some tablets to put in his food last time it happened. Little Champ has had some blood in his stools for three days now, when it dribbled out of his bum I was a little worried? he does not seem to be in any pain, and he is eating okay, his owner said he had been eating part of his blanket? and that he had been eating those tiny fishes for the last three days, not sure what you call the fishes they are small ones? Is there anything we can do to help him?
The next question is about my dog Dash, who's bite wounds have completely healed so thank you for the help with that, however today i noticed a tiny bit of hair on his coat was a little different to the rest of his coat which is a little patch middle back where his spine is located as i was checking the spot trying to figure out why that spot of coat was different in texture, i felt a little lump under his skin, next to the spine, it is the size of a small bean just a bit bigger than a pea, It don't seem to bother him when touching it, and it don't seem to be stuck at the spot as it seems to move side to side when touched, any ideas on what it could be? I was using the hemp oil on his right leg and upper joint, but he is still limping on that leg, i was thinking maybe that lump has something to do with his limping?
What do you think I should do about it?
    Nikki

    • @DanScott1
      @DanScott1  2 роки тому

Hi Nikki, if the lump is soft and easily moves about, it's probably a fatty cyst.
I'd add more fresh food to the diet like eggs, canned sardines and lots of veg. This is so these fatty cysts stop forming.
The neighbours dog needs some fresh food in the diet too, blanket and kibble is'nt cutting it, hence the blood in stool. Feed Digestive Enzyme Supplement - amzn.to/2ksvlx1
and Organic Bone Broth Powder - amzn.to/3pkD6DY (to heal the gut from bleeding and the bloody stools).
And definitely use some Pet Ultimate Probiotics - amzn.to/2jAaN1Z added to the meals daily.

      @nikkibaxter5550 2 роки тому +1

@@DanScott1 Hi Dan thankyou for the links I have given them to my neighbour, hopefully he will purchase them? Sooner than later as poor Champ was bleeding again today.
I make my dogs dinner in bulk then freeze it in containers for the next days, I cook him beef lamb and turkey mince with a little liver and kidney, and chicken with a teaspoon of turmeric, and cauliflour spinach courgette cabbage, carrots, organic garden peas, sweet potatoes and broccili, and mix it all together with a spoon of hemp seeds and some pumpkin seeds, and he has this every evening, with the dog dry food.
I also give him some sardines or chicken or off cuts of beef in the mornings with the dry food. I have tried him with the egg, boiled and cooked in coconut oil but he wont eat it? I mixed the egg with the sardines and he wont eat it? would it be better to just give him the egg uncooked?
I also give him some organic coconut oil daily.
I will try the raw brocili dipped in coconut oil as he wont eat it raw he wont eat raw carrots either only cooked, I give him some apple to he like apple, but not bananas or oranges.
I have been cooking his meals for a few months now, before he came to me they just gave him loads of Bakers dry food and a sachet of the wet food, so do you think if i carry on making his food this way his cist will go away?
Or am I doing something wrong?
      Thanks again for the advice.

@@nikkibaxter5550 Cooking the food is way better than just dry food, so your doing great.
I think with the eggs you have to fast him first to get his appetite up. 24 hrs is no problem for a dog and helps clear out the liver and kidneys... this will also help the immune system and skin (another organ).
For the cyst to go away you'll need to be focussed on keeping the dog away from as many drugs/vaccines/flea&tick meds/dewormers as possible. I have video on all the natural and effective alternatives.
For shrinking the cyst, just add to food: Green lipped mussel - amzn.to/36I4xji
Add organic apple cider vinegar to meals. ACV can be a powerful ally in the prevention and treatment of lipomas/cysts. It assists in liver detoxification as it stimulates circulation and energy flow. ACV works with the body’s lymphatic system by cleaning out the lymph nodes. It also supports the body’s elimination channels. Give ACV based on your dog’s weight.

My 2 year old pure breed Doberman that was diagnosed with liver copper storage disease. The Vet recommended a well known brand wet food, and a ton of medication daily . I notice he still losing so much weight that you can see his hip and spine bone. Took him to a specialist with no recommendation on what to change and his blood work is showing everything is still high. After spending the day looking at the ingredients on the can food, it contains a ton of by products, chicken liver. So I decided to cook him all of his food, buy milk thistle, and coconut water. I am hoping it works. Is their anything else I should do to get him heathy?

    • @DanScott1
      @DanScott1  2 роки тому +1

You must focus on feeding what helps the liver to operate better. Here's some information to help you:
      Protecting The Kidneys & Liver:
It’s crucial to protect and support healthy kidneys and liver to avoid kidney/liver disease in dogs.
Feed a fresh, whole food diet. A balanced raw diet will give your dog the protein, vitamins and nutrients he needs to function well. Adding the following to your dog’s regular diet will also help support his system and protect kidney function:
Eggs - easily digested complete food
Small fish like mackerel, anchovies and sardines (canned is good and convenient)
      Sprouts
Small seeds - flax or sesame are great (crushed)
Herbs - dandelion and parsley (can gets as tincture if not fresh)
Add some fresh chopped herbs to your dog’s food - a pinch per 10 lbs up to 1 Tbsp for a dog 100 lbs or larger. If you buy dried herbs, capsules or a tincture, assume the dose on the label is for a 150 lb human and adjust the dose for your dog’s weight. Here's a multi herb freeze dried product with LOTS of antioxidants crucial to health, also including probiotics, beta glucans (protect/boost immune system) and much more:
      Green Vibrance: amzn.to/3cOgzLu
1/4 scoop, sml dogs, 1/3 scoop med dogs, 1/2 scoop big dogs.
Avoid or minimize vaccines - since they’re a major cause of inflammation and the toxic adjuvants and additives can compromise your dog’s system. Since the kidneys flush toxins from the body, vaccines force the kidneys to work overtime anytime there’s a new toxin unreduced. Your dog’s kidneys don’t like those toxins and will work hard to flush them out.
Avoid drugs and toxins - Antibiotics are really hard on the kidneys and drugs that suppress symptoms are not actually doing anythin to heal the real issue. Use silver for antibiotic use: amzn.to/2UXexmC
Give a good quality probiotics to improve digestion overall and help the kidneys/liver process better: amzn.to/3xqa2i0 (don't need if getting the greens above).
If your dog has kidney/liver issues, using fresh food as therapy and avoiding the drugs/vaccines the kidneys/liver will suffer through is the way to go for your dogs health long term.
The Best Foods for Kidney/liver Health
Dark leafy greens. Dark leafy green vegetables such as kale, spinach, chard, and collard greens are loaded with vitamins A and C, calcium, and many other important minerals.
      Berries.
      Cranberries.
      Sweet potatoes.
      Olive oil.

I weigh out my dogs nature's logic synthetic free kibble food and give it to him 3 times thru out the day each time I add filtered water to it. He seems to love it that way. I give him a vetnique labs glandex chew each morning how do you feel about that product? Plus I give him fruits and vegetables as a healthy snack he gets 5 or 6 blueberries and a little piece of banana just about everyday. He gets a small minties dental chew a few times a week. Am I over doing it?

    • @DanScott1
      @DanScott1  Рік тому

Yes I know the Glandex product. I only recommend for the duration of the issue then stop. The fruits are fine, berries are best for antioxidants. A few recommendations:
If you feed kibble, the best thing to do first is remove 50% of the kibble from the bowl and replace with raw eggs (preferably organic), canned sardines (in plain water with skin & bone intact: 12 Pack Sardines - amzn.to/3vaXrj6), some part cooked and blended veggies like broccoli, kale, green beans, spinach, brussel sprouts, bok choy etc and some meat proteins such as chicken meat, even better.
If not liking to prepare vegetables then these freeze dried greens are antioxidant packed to help protect cells from free radical damage, cellular repair, support immunity, joints, skin issues, heart and eye health: Core Immune CARE Greens: shrsl.com/3uv18
Now your dogs getting live enzymes, probiotics, Omega 3 oils, the highest quality proteins and nutritional assimilation from eggs (100%), and antioxidants, minerals and vitamins from vegetables. Always add a quality probiotic: (skin issues/yeast/itchy dogs) use this one: amzn.to/3yoURqU and for all other dogs use this one: shrsl.com/3uv7l
If you want an excellent, VERY low carbohydrate kibble at just 5%, (high carbohydrates cause chronic inflammation, with itchy skin, yeast, poor gut health, ear infection, UTI's and hot spots, and nearly all kibbles are 40+% carbs!). Ketona has high protein at 47% (dogs thrive on proteins), correct fats at 15% and natural additives, so have a look at Ketona Kibble: healthydogforlife.com/KetonaKibble. I recommend still adding the fresh foods even with the best kibble.

No 2 Don't overfeed, bad for joints.
      No 3 MCT OIl: amzn.to/3Es3zqk
No 4 Hemp Seed oil: amzn.to/3vDdtjX

No 7 My diet ebook - Feed Your Dog Better: healthydogforlife.com/feed-your-dog-better-book-by-dan-scott/

Hi. I am feeding my dog with especial Anallergenic Food, but she doesn't enjoy her meal 😔
How Can I to boost the appetite. Any advices please. Thank you!
Do you think is possible cure dog allergies through probiotics, kefir, Liver tonics?

    • @DanScott1
      @DanScott1  2 роки тому +1

She doesn't enjoy that food Natalia, because it has no live, natural fresh food in it. She just feels nothing after eating it whereas you add the things you stated plus some foods like eggs, vegetables and canned sardines (packed in water), now she feels the lifeforce surging through her body which FEELS good.
      And you'll notice this!
And yes, all of that food & the things you listed and cutting 30% of the kibble from each meal to compensate the extra calories will reduce the allergies conciderably.
That and zero drugs, vaccines, flea&tick and deworm meds (all poison to a dogs sensitive system). There are effective natural alternatives to everything.
Number one supplement to add with all this is probiotics, these are great: amzn.to/3xqa2i0

This is my third GSD enquiry today. I just emailed someone with a GSD, 6 months old, same problem as yours but now resolved, healthy and owner delighted.
My free advice is DIET. Diet is the KEY.
Take out 30% of the kibble from each meal and replace with 1 cup cooked and well crushed veg, 2 boiled eggs and 1 can of sardines (packed in water) plus some high quality probiotics: amzn.to/3xqa2i0
I'd stop those vet antibiotics as soon as you read this!..
or your dog will have further gut health issues. Use silver:
amzn.to/2UXexmC Does the job without the side effects. 1 tsp by mouth twice daily and 1 Tbl sp. in the water bowl.
You'll get a MUCH healthier dog as outlined above.
      OR...
Get my ebook Feed Your Dog Better:
      healthydogforlife.com/feed-your-dog-better-book-by-dan-scott/
And set your dog up for life.
GSD's are sensitive beings, I get this a lot. Some further advice is NO meds, vaccines, dewormers, flea&tick poison etc. There's natural alternatives, just ask.
GSD's need sensitive owners, thanks for being one.

@@DanScott1 hi there, I just found your channel and I'm so glad I did! I have two dogs and they have a yeast infection. It must be what I'm feeding them 😭 I give them Balance brand dry food and I give them Paul Newman's dog treats. I feel so bad for them cuz they shake their heads and rub their ears on the floor and lick their paws. Help cuz some people say don't give them veggies or rice.... So I don't know where to start and do you recommend a vegan diet for dogs cuz my husband and I plan to go on a plant base diet this week. Thank you for your time and you have a new subscriber from Ormond Beach Florida 😊

@@utube0372 Plant based diet is good for humans NOT dogs. They need the mix of amino acids in animal based proteins. Plant based protein does not have the profile of meats for dogs (they are Carnivores and we are Omnivores).
Your dogs are suffering yeast overload from the carbohydrates in the food ie toooooo much sugar as carbs turn to simple sugars fast!
I'd start with my ebook: healthydogforlife.com/feed-your-dog-better-book-by-dan-scott/
And look at the Healthier Kibble Diet as your easy starting diet. Everything you need is in that ebook and can ask if you need help with something. I could not go through the details you need here.
Yes that head shaking and scratching is not pleasant to watch and on the inside, they itch all over, very uncomfortable BUT we can make that go away over time.
And please, not vaccines, vet drugs, dewormers, flea&tick meds... they make it worse! There are natural alternatives... ask.

Switched my dog to a whole food diet from watching your videos but my female schnauzer just won’t eat the vegetables or carbohydrates I include. She only wants to eat the protein source. But now she happens to be going on 4week of pregnancy and I’m worried that she not eating enough so I even tried to switch her back to her regular food which she always ate just fine but she won’t even eat the kibble. What do I do? Please help!

Forget the kibble, it's too late now she's tasted real food. Is she small? try some pre-made meals with everything in them like Steve's freeze dried real food: amzn.to/3sz3eO6
Or try some raw green tripe, a complete food nutritionally: www.greentripe.com/
Or what protein your feeding now with eggs and canned sardines instead of the carbs/veg. Dogs don't need the carbs and for veg try this instead, freeze dried greens: amzn.to/3cOgzLu Excellent source of everything, been using it 20 years.

If I’m feeding my dog 1 1/2 cups of kibble per day and want to switch her to whole food. Would the whole food be 1 1/2 (12oz) per day?

    • @DanScott1
      @DanScott1  2 роки тому

Essentially yes. You'll find there's much richer nutrition in 11/2 cups of whole food so might find you can feed a little less, maybe 25% less.
BTW well done for doing this, your dog will thank you. On top of the video choices, add eggs, canned sardines (packed in water) and lots of part cooked and well mashed/blended veg. Now the diet rocks.

Thank you Sian for good details. Where do I start.. your on the right track... a good thing. I can see why your Frenchy is the way they are... LOTS of carbs which is another way of saying sugar (refined (white) carbohydrates turn to sugar very fast once eaten).
The drugs you mention are bad for dogs AND lead to return visits for their side effects (thats the business model).
      Recommendation:
Start with a clean kibble ( I can advise) and follow my Healthier Kibble Diet ebook: healthydogforlife.com/feed-your-dog-better-book-by-dan-scott/
      or..
Begin again on a raw food diet, no drugs/extras etc and work through until cured of the issues (this includes supplements/detoxing remedies). This diet is also in the ebook.
      Or..
work with me one to one via email with my consultation and support program: healthydogforlife.com/real-food-for-dogs-book-and-video-program-by-dan-scott/
