One of the things I like about the Mini is that they make incremental changes. They don't do a complete redesign every few years. Our 2014 Cooper S still looks as fresh as the 2022 version.

Then fast forward to 2021 and do the smae comparison the mini is still unmestakably a mini and the other two look nothing like their predecessors. And the 2002 mini cooper is still a great looking car even today. There's something to be said for having a unique, cheeky and quirky style.

In late April, we were unaware of the 2022 models until we went to the dealer to look at a used MINI. It had just been sold, so we made a deal that day for a '22 S Signature that was on the lot. We are happy with the design changes & other upgrades that are now standard. Our car has all of the options that we wanted, except the tilting "curb view" mirror. The MINI looks great in many color combinations. Ours is chili red/white roof with scissor wheels.
AWESOME!! I like everything you talked about. I had been wondering how the “bad weather” lights worked. No other video-even MINI’s intro video-explained it explicitly so thank you. Personally, I love the separate clear driving lights and I reprogrammed mine to stay on with the high beams. (On the older MINIs I’ve owned, I hacked the wiring to achieve the same) Regardless, I can live with this change. I am also READY for the heated steering wheel. Also, my OCD kicks in when the power button isn’t oriented correctly so you are not alone. I am so happy to see they made that change! My current 2019 S is my first lease so I’ll be upgrading to one of these in Feb 2022. I’m ready! Thanks for the great video. 👍🏽

Great review but I think I'm happier with my 2021 MINI 3 Door with Union Jack mirror caps and Union Jack roof. Ps. I think the new front grill bandaid makes it look more like an expensive Mini BMW than a Mini Cooper. Pps. I like the fog lights separate from the headlights. Am I alone?
I had a loaner with the new digital cluster speedometer and it was rather overwhelming, I like the traditional much better. Omg the volume button, probably my fav change
Overall the car look more futuristic, a little weird with the new facelift but I feel like it reflects the original mini look better. Great review, you missed to do a test drive and tell us if anything changed or if it drives any different
Unfortunately this one is not allowed in the public roads for a proper test drive otherwise I would have and got some driving shots of those wheels in motion
Actually during the covid factory shutdowns and openings Mini made a lot of 2021 3 door and 5 doors (classic trim) without Led headlights and flag tail lights.
The circular dash needs to be updated IMO. Was cool when the speedometer was housed in that spot but not necessary any longer. Would have like go see them do something different.
I would like to see a digital speedometer option for there! It's a screen it can show anything! It can be a secondary digital speedometer with different styles as a throwback to the MINIs before it! I've asked them to do that for me but they haven't made it happen yet 🥺

I think I preferred the radio surrounds previously, I like the continuous colour, not one made up of different sized lines. And can you modify the speedo display?
Had mine for about 6 weeks now and the central display light hasn’t worked properly since day one. Was told as it’s so new it’s taking time to diagnose the problem and source a part. This is my 4th Mini and the one I was most looking forward to getting but a bit deflated now and really quite poor customer service.
Got to say the design at least in this color, really makes the front view look like a cartoon frog! As the 2021s just came out, I am surprised they are already releasing 2022s. It is always this soon?

My car is en route to the dealer and I am glad I have the 2021 year as it doesn't look like a wide mouthed frog! Although I do like that ombre colored roof in the refresh & I am with you on the heated wheel.

It's hard to say. IF the wiring was already present in the steering column, you would probably have to cut a hole to install the on/off button. So I don't think it would be a straightforward swap.

Oh wow that is a really tough call! The hopkirk is ready now and is rare! The 22 will take a while but has some nifty new features...... You could always make a red 22 look like a hopkirk with a few vinyl graphics..... I don't know if I can answer this one! It's a tough call!

What happened Mini Cooper? Looks like BMW is trying to cut cost. As a owner of two Mini Coopers I’m definitely disappointed. Hate the new front end and lack of real fog lights only makes the front end look extremely boring.

Its a shame they blacked out all the chrome by default instead of that being an option, it's also a shame that they removed the factory afterfire, the pops and crackles that all minis had up until around 2017, it's also a shame that this model comes with a GPF or a DPF for the diesel which saps power and a lot of sound and costs a fortune to maintain not to mention an additional fire hazard. Over all I think Mini is moving in the wrong direction.
This doesn’t make it for me, I prefer my 2019 F56. I really don’t like the front bumper, the steering wheel with that all gloss black and those air vents. The digital display over the steering wheel not so great. I do like the infotainment system, the rear bumper and the headlights.
I'm in the US and in our market, that's a 2022 model year. Our model years are almost a year ahead of the actual year. Not sure why it's like that but it's been that way for as long as I can recall.

In Sweden all the new minis will be modell 2022 so I think it will be the same in US. I just ordered a 3door Cooper S with all extra equipment there is and in Rooftop Grey, will be delivered in 9 weeks.

They're also very unpractical and don't drive very well imo. BMW have been very clever with the marketing by using such an iconic name, I think it's more style over substance. I don't understand, it's 2021 ... you buy a car today and register it as owner and for the road... it will state in all documents 2021 !!! So why the gimmick?? A car from the future or an idiot presenting from the future... Call it what it is!!!
In the US market, that car is a 2022 model year and will be marked down as such on the title and registration. It's not a gimmick it's just the way the US market operates. Kind of like how a fiscal year starts ahead of the actual year.

I heard of people fitting the old style speedometer back on. Wouldn't be that hard if it really bothers you.

The heated steering wheel will be available with certain packages so it should be available on the electric version too.
Gonna have to see about doing a retrofit to my F56. I had a heated wheel in my e39 wagon years ago and miss it terribly this time of year

In the US market, that car is a 2022 model year and will be marked down as such on the title and registration. It's not a gimmick it's just the way the US market operates. Kind of like how a fiscal year starts ahead of the actual year.
