      Engine power is not the only upgrade you get. The JCW is a, not so, different car than a S. The handling of a JCW is far better balanced and sportier. The weight of the car is reduced due to different materials. Brakes are much better. and the exhaust is slightly more noisier.

      @slashnburn9234 6 років тому +3

      @@CSRTV007 yes it can be done: you really need to focus on efficient driving to keep it at the 39-40 mpg mark, and of course traffic and road conditions help. If driving without the focus on keeping fuel consumption down, and using the car's acceleration & performance, then 33-35 mpg is about right. I've not yet taken it on a truly long motorway trip; my 2015 Cooper (the non S version) that I had before this S did 65 mpg on a 100 mile+ trip, I'm not sure how high I can get the MPG on this one.

    • @Outlaw-Pete
      @Outlaw-Pete 3 роки тому +1

      Even though this conversation was 2 years ago, just for info I’ve had 63mpg on a long run in my 2015 Cooper s (100miles plus). Though day to day mixing between 30 to 45 mpg dependant on being a hooligan or a gentleman.

    • @slashnburn9234
      @slashnburn9234 3 роки тому +2

      @@Outlaw-Pete now that I’ve had it a longer and gotten used to the car (which I got in Dec 2018, so just before I posted the comment) I have seen an improvement in efficiency. And of course I’ve seen a marked improvement thanks to lockdown and the lower amounts of traffic, getting a reliable 38-40 mpg without trying too hard. Even when being a bit more hooligan with it I don’t really see it drop below 37 mpg although I think I tend to offset my more exuberant driving with more relaxed trips too.
      I’ve found that turning the DSC off whilst driving helps with economy as well as just being giving a better driving experience, plus I spend about half my regular journey on the motorway which helps. Overall I think it’s just the perfect car; efficient and economical yet fast enough and fun too. I have been thinking though that when I come to change it in a couple of years time I’m going to get a JCW just because I reckon that’ll be my last petrol car before I end up with an electric one, I might as well go the whole hog for the last hurrah for the internal combustion engine!

    I've been debating between a 2nd hand Cooper S and JCW, I found a Cooper S with JCW aero and JCW pro exhaust. If I would buy a compareable JCW F56 I would be spending around 4-5000 euro more. For that money I can fit a proper mechanical LSD and a good tune to the Cooper S to get it around 260whp, I will also have enough money left to buy a big brake kit from Mini/BMW brand new.

    2018 JCW has a 7 DCT and 2015 S has a 6 auto, honesty the difference can be just the gearbox, I think the JCW is a little bit shy. This is like if an Audi S3 was that close to an Audi RS3: the RS3 would make no sense; or if a GTI was that close to an R again it makes no sense, JCW SHOULD be noticeably faster.

      SuperBoris1976 yes, I have seen dyno numbers and the extra hp of the JCW are above 5000rpm, also the S seems to be underrated at 189hp, I have seen numbers from 200 to 215 and The JCW seems to be at what it’s claimed(230)so that makes things even closer. I own a 2016 JCW and is great, I have never raced against an S so I can’t tell what happens with 6spd auto vs 6spd auto. What I can say is the brembo brakes are the big disappointment of this car, the JCW breaks worse than a GTI a A3 and many other cars. I usually drive the JCW and a A3 sedan and the A3 breaks better, I hace I en confirmed it in many reviews of the JCW.

    It's now at the very end of 2022. I've had a 2011 Cooper S for 11 years. Other than all the costly repairs I've loved it but I'm ready for a change. I was lusting after the Hyundai Veloster N but they've discontinued it. I guess it just wasn't boring enough for the average American driver.
    Anyway, when I'm ready for a new car the default choice so far will be either the Cooper S or the JCW. So far I'm not seeing $6,000 worth of value in the JCW; a half second quicker to 60mph and a bit more attitude and more edgy, maybe worth a few thousand more to me, not double that. Plus I hate the instrument layout on the 2022. The cluster directly in front of the driver looks like an oval iPhone.
    Comments from JCW owners? Is it worth it?

    Ghost Immobilisers - what are they?
    Ghost Immobilisers render a vehicle immovable due to its hidden tiny & untraceable control unit connected directly to the CAN bus (data wires of a vehicle) and its user PIN start sequence.

  • @sjonhigh

    When compared, make it a 4 run dragrace, switching the sides of the road every run. Perhaps more honest.
    Btw, I'm not that into dragrace to begin with. You can only compare when you leave the human element out of the comparison. So you can run each car separate, using instruments to measure how quick a car is.

    I’ve owned both, the JCW is much quicker. Both on accelerating from start and roll on acceleration.
    Had a F56 cooper s from new for 2 years, then changed it for a JCW which I’ve had for nearly 3 years.
    The JCW has gone in for the odd fault and servicing in that time (the last was a parking sensor issue which took 3 visits to the dealer to sort out!).
    Each time I had a Cooper s as a courtesy car, and each time I noticed it was definitely slower. As soon as I picked up my JCW each time, you can feel straight away the extra power and faster acceleration.
    This video is misleading.
