That's a handy little unit. What some people can't seem to understand is that you can have the best scanner in the world, but if you don't know what to do with the information it provides, it's ineffective. This tool in the hands of somebody who knows how to use it is pretty powerful.

Bro, Thanks for sharing this!!!! I daily drive the family owned ‘03 4Runner with a little over 296k on the clock and starting mid November, she’s been throwing an intermittent P0430 code that promptly gets shut off with my 6 year old Innova scan tool. I refuse to believe this vehicle’s kitty cats have gone bad.. The 2UZ V8 that powers the SUV doesn’t burn a drop of oil, doesn’t run lean, has never been driven with misfires and has never had her underbelly subject to any sort of damage.. she runs flawlessly, in other words. That tool I own has “freeze frame” data, but I’d really like to see what kind of data the 02 sensors are putting out, because I’m about 99% certain they’re the OEM equipment from 20 years ago 😅
Believe I’ll be buying this tool!

Long Term is the window of time the adaptive memory dictates the fuel trim, Short Term is live data calculating to learn the parameters for the adaptive memory to update the Long Term. The O2 sensor signals lean below .45 volts & rich above .45. The Engine Controller only cares about that threshold & uses that to determine fuel trim. .. in other words the computer calculates the % of time that the O2 sensor is past the threshold of .45 volts & does that each time the threshold is crossed.

For any that may not know short term measures fuel being used as the engine runs long term measures fuel used over time. The long term can tell you how your engines been running. You want both of these long and short to be around 0 or - or + 10 percent is okay as well. If it’s a high number in the pluses it’s running lean if it’s really low in negatives it’s running rich. Plus means hardly any fuels being used and negative means lots of fuel being taken. With a vacuum leak that’s air not being red by the MAF sensor so the computer dose not to now how much air has entered the engine with too much air and not enough gas you will have a lean condition of not enough fuel for the air inside the engine. The opposite can happen as well where you have too much fuel for the air inside the engine and not all the fuel gets burned you should be able to see that on the oxygen sensors.
