  • I made a bonsai pot at Izabela's this spring and I'm finally panting a tree in it!
    I prune up several trees before making my final decision on which tree to plant.

      Probably worked alongside aliens. I have been subscribed pretty much since the start of your channel, and you remind me very much of my now retired Nuclear Physicist Uncle who worked since the early 1960's at LASL/LANL.

      @@paulfontenot8569 he himself said he's Australian. And most of the Australians except the indigenous ones are of English origin. Maybe that's why he loves English Oaks🙂

    I admire your ability to not take cuttings. Every time I prune a tree I take a few cuttings, and I'm almost relieved when they don't root 😂

      At a certain point you have to stop taking cuttings. Certainly when you do everything on a small balcony like me. 🤣 But I know exactly what you mean.

    Great choice for the beautiful little pot! You couldn’t go wrong with any of them… BLUEy green is almost the perfect color. 🤣🐦💙

    Your videos on initial pruning are very interesting and informative. Setting up the structure is one of my favorite processes of bonsai. Thanks, keep growing

      G'day Scott, I've lived most of my life in Canada, but both my parents were from Australia, they came to Canada in 1967 when I was 5 years old! My dad from Perth and my mom from Rockhampton!

    Nice trimming on all those trees. Interesting that you chose the eucalyptus for the hand made pot. Perhaps, some of those red rocks half buried in the soil (once the tree is established) would add to that Australian feel.

    all these trees were great but that false cypress was adorable. there's just something about teeny tiny conifers. i'll have to keep an eye out for that species in the future!

    Great choice with the eucalyptus. They have grey/green strappy leaves, matching the green glaze. Also as mature trees they have a grey bark with Sandy orange flashes.

    That pot turned out perfectly fantastic. Hard choices to make my friend, and you done well with choosing the eucalyptus.
    If this was mine I would of had a hard choice of my wyoming sagebrush, blue ice arizona cypress, Buffalo berry, or silver mound wormwood.

    That's is one of my favourite Eucaliptus tree. Its beautiful bluish green foliage is fantastic.

    Oh, great choice with the eucalyptus! That’s going to look great! I would have liked to see how your Crown of Thorns would look in that pot. A shrub you pioneered as a bonsai in your own pot! But you dig the tan/brown, I get it.
    I also appreciate your discipline, brother! Ever since your tree-count video, you’ve been a lot more strict on saving your cuttings. Good for you!

      @@TheBonsaiZone that's awesome, I remember you enjoyed the tea at my place, it was from my eucalyptus, looks like the one you got. Mine didn't survive the 2nd winter indoor. I hope the rain tree is ok, I'm away on vacation and Martin is taking care of it. It looked awesome in a new pot, I'll be making an update video when I return

    Hiya Nigel,
    During my enjoyment of this video, it occurred to me how having a Nigel Saunders rake/tamping tool would be a terrific souvenir and remembrance of you. Any chance you could get someone to make a bunch of them for you to sell, give away or raffle off? I cannot be the only bonsai enthusiast to covet one.

    Beautiful pot Nigel! Also great choice, eucalyptus is always a tree species that really interests me.
    Did you ever keep that pomegranate cutting from a few videos back?? I just picked up a young tree and it’s giving me a few hard choices for pruning. Maybe watching a video on the species in the future will give me some inspiration 🤣

    You need to rebrand as Ozzy Bonsai or something, Nige lol
    Good vid as always! That pot really turned out great! Other two plants I could think of that would suit it would be a Chinese or Blue Star Juniper with the reddish wood to match. The foliage of the Crassula arborescens also match but its wood might be a tad too pale. Just some thoughts!

      The tetragonas I mean, I've wanted to share with Jay, Xin and Connor for a while so more people have access to something new. If some of the newer tetragona cuttings don't make it, I'll see about sending some too them directly next year when I have more healthy cuttings.

    Yes you got many trees but I feel You should try growing that Ukalip cutting sir. Coz You have only one ukalip tree now, so the cutting can be 2nd uka tree.

    I wonder if a person could bonsai a Labrador tea tree(Rhododendron groenlandicum)it’s the first plant discoverers would have encountered when they first saw the new world?

    As an Aussie I'm wondering what type of eucalypt it is, as there are over 600 species in Australia? I love using them for bonsai.

      It just says Eucalyptus (Herb) on the label, it does smell very nice!!

      It looks like it might be a silver dollar eucalyptus (Eucalyptus cinerea) judging by the leaf shape and colour.
