    Classic example of why I love The Totally Awesome Fishing Show! It's not about using the latest and greatest most expensive gear. It's not plugging products they are affiliated with. It's just straight up fishing and in depth examples of tried and tested techniques. No messing. Really awesome presenting by both father and son, 10 times more fun to watch when you see that they are funny and enjoying themselves too.

      To be honest bud i know what you mean. Although i had my dad he never cared for fishing so when i was younger i had to go through the angling mags, angling times etc for ideas. unfortunately YT hadn't been invented which in a way thinking about it made me a better fisherman i guess..... Anyway great comment 😊

    Hi Graeme,
    I caught my first Pike yesterday. As ive said before shore fishings my absolute passion but ive tried course now with a new pal whos fly fished for Scotland and really enjoy it at a fab venue. He blanked so it just goes to show that anyone can catch with a bit of effort and determination. It was a good size Jack Pike that i reeled in nice and slow to savour the moment. The hook fell out into the net, and once released he very slowly swam away unharmed and not stressed. I will always remember that catch.
    Cheers Graeme,
    Steve in Fife.

    When I started pike fishing about a year ago, I started with the basics of spinning and lure fishing as I find bait fishing very boring, and it's great I've seen plenty of younger kids giving it a go. As long as you have someone with you that knows what they're doing there's no reason why you can't have a good time catching these amazing fish.
    Coming from trout fishing this is far more exciting :)

    it's called a bridling needle, the closes thing I've found on the technique is called bridling.
    Believe it or not, they use this with elastic bands and live bait out in OZ ans SA.
    Anyway, great tekkers on the sardine front - top bait for pike, in my mind, nothing better for them. Sprats aren't bad. Roach too, but thats if I can get them and I don't mind spending.
    Once again, great video.

I see you're twitching it fairly regularly and the fish is moving naturally so I guess you're just off bottom? Also do you use a large plummet I guess to gauge bottom? Cheers.

    • @TAFishing

      As an average I like a bait about 1/3 of the way up from the bottom.When the float goes under,maybe a few seconds pause then wind quite fast to take the slack up and when you come up tight just pull back firmly.No need for hard striking.

    @TAFishing Hello! I really love your videos! Such amazing quality of advice, and knowledge, combined with awesome entertainment! I just have one question. For these pike, what type of line is good to use for the part where the hooks attach? Should it be more thick than the main line? I'm asking because I thought pike had teeth that may be able to bite through the line if it's not of a certain type... In any case, what fish would you deem a Wire leader necessary for? I'm wondering because I want to be prepared for anything! If you could help out, that'd be so great! Thanks!

    • @TAFishing
      @TAFishing  8 років тому +1

      +Filip Bahunek Always wire for Pike.Cabled,or twisted strands are better than single strand.Then about 12/15lb for your reel line. Around 40cm or wire should be good.And long nosed pliers or long nosed forceps for getting the hooks out.Work quickly unhooking as Pike are not a hardy species out of water.

      Aaron Graham Well, the pike caught in this video are quite huge! and if 15lb is good enough for those, then 15lb is good enough for me. However, recently, I got some really good line on sale that is 17lb, so I will most likely be using that. In any case, thanks!

      Mine were VB's,I believe Vic Bellars,a Pike fisherman popularised them.I had mine from Partridge of Redditch..No idea who markets them now.

    Don't know if I missed it, but I didn't hear what depth you set the stop knot at? Were you fishing near the bottom, or does it not really matter?

    • @TAFishing
      @TAFishing  8 років тому +3

      I like about one third the way off the bottom,whatever the depth.

    Thanks for the reply. As I don't like the idea of using treble hooks and not being able to source Partridge vb hooks, I have cut off one of the trebles and bent the remaining two hooks to form a back to back similar to the VBs, only difference is that they are both the same size hooks. Would this be okay to use? Would really appreciate your advice on this method.

    • @TAFishing

      Two hooks should be easier for removing than three.

    Hello, you advise hook points towards the tail, but in the video, your hook points look like they are pointing towards the head. I am just starting pike fishing and would be greatful if you could advise.

    • @TAFishing
      @TAFishing  7 років тому +1

      When twitching a bait head first hookpoints towards the head as that is the tow point.For static deadbaiting hookpoints towards the tail.That's what I have always done and it works for me.I think you will find it is fairly standard.

    • @TAFishing

      You could plumb the depth if the water is new to you.I just fish it 1/4 or 1/3 off the bottom depending on water clarity

    • @TAFishing

      Should be dragging through about a foot off the bottom,or a foot above any weed.

    • @TAFishing

      You can catch Pike on 10lb mono (with a wire trace) but to get a better hook set it would be better to use braid which has very little stretch in the line

      TAFishing thinking of going pike fishing in a very deep lake (around 50m deep) this half term. Do you have any advice for fishing in deep water with a lure?

    • @TAFishing
      @TAFishing  7 років тому

      Concentrate on the dropoffs,weedbeds or structure. Baitfish will be near these,followed by the pike.I rarely catch much out in the middle of very deep water.

      @tomwiltshire8244 7 років тому

    would sand eels work as a deadbait for pike fishing?

    • @TAFishing
      @TAFishing  9 років тому

      Yes I have used sandeels before, generally they catch the jack pike, you might want a slightly bigger bait to target the bigger fish

    • @gk95423

    • @TAFishing
      @TAFishing  9 років тому

      ORIGINALINDIVIDUAL Better for the bait to drag through either a foot off the bottom,or a foot above any weed that might be present.If it starts to drag in the weed you then know to shallow it up until it drifts over the top.
