    I had a 13lb Pike on a Fox micro spikey this winter whilst Perch jigging down the side of a wall.The water had good visability and i saw the silver flash of the Pike long before the hookup,so exciting.

      Great work! It's amazing when you actually see them come out after your lure.

    I've had other BPM baits ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 before and they've pretty much always came through for me with the suskie smallies here and even with the walleye and pike, but I realized I didn't have an "in-between" pattern so this junebug one fills that role in no problem. it pairs up magnificently with a junebug Zoom Z-craw Jr that was trimmed a couple millimeters before the hook slots and rigged sideways for that fatter panfish side profile while still being a nice'n'compact presentation, a real power-finesse bait. Hell, it was so pretty I even bothered to fotosketch the pic into a watercolor painting image just to show you it's beauty! Even the blades are really well made, sure, they're not of Hildebrandt-level exquisiteness but look at the bead's reflection on the colorado blade, definitely well-made! The only "problem" spot it had was a bald spot in the skirt but it was nothing that I couldn't easily fix with a but of tuggin'n'shiftin' with the strands for a couple of seconds, besides that it is pretty minty!

    Fantastic video, very informative. I'm reasonably new to lure fishing but, as we all do, thought id learned quite a bit already just from reading and experimentation but this taught me a lot.
    Id never really given much thought to why certain shads had thinner and thicker paddle tails and i must confess i had no idea about the texas rig. Thank you for bringing these things to my attention.
    Ive mostly overlooked the smaller lures and concentrated on lures of 18cm or more, and even had some tiny pike taking them at that size too.
    Im definitely going to get my hands on some smaller shads and creature baits and give them a shot. Big trout in our local rivers too, when they open again, so I'll be chucking a few about in the river too.
    Learned a lot from this, well presented. Cheers 👍

      Thank you very much for the kind words! 18cm+ lures are great for targeting big fish - you should find you get a lot more action by scaling down your lure sizes on canals.

    • @dnok1452
      @dnok1452 4 роки тому

      @@samedmonds9009 thanks, and yeah i hope it does lead to more action as theres miles upon miles of canal near me, and rivers, and action is few and far between. A good session would be 2 pike lol and thats varying my lures, walking the margins and very actively working various depths and retrieves etc not just chucking out a lure and cranking it straight back.
      I know the fish are there, they just prove hard to tempt.
      We are blessed with good size perch too, 3lb not being uncommon, so i hope to get some of them on the smaller lures too. I had been pretty transfixed on pike upon my return to fishing so ive neglected most other species. It wasnt until i accidentally hooked into a good trout on the river and realised how hard they fight when caught on a lure that my interest in other species peaked a bit. I used to catch them on the stick with maggots but i don't ever remember them behaving so violently.
      Anyway, ranting 😂. Cheers man

    Relative to the size of the pike and lure, I am beginning to question the size of the hooks we use for these small fish. As an angler I have to question the damage we can do to these small fish with such huge single hooks that often have barbs. Surely we don’t need 2/0 hooks and size 6 trebles on lures when we know most canal pike we catch are small jacks.

    • @craigfarrell2939
      @craigfarrell2939 4 роки тому +1

      I personally use the biggest hook I can safely get away with, this means less chance of my line being in the mouth which I think causes more damage.

    • @emmabown9751

      We fish in a shallow narrow canal and I pulled out a big pike. It was a small hook too. I think I was lucky I managed to keep it on! 😂

      Canals are so underrated, these waters have been around a long time and hold some good fish

    • @boxingfan2281
      @boxingfan2281 3 роки тому +2

      @@craigfarrell2939 I assume you mean Trace. I haven’t found that Trace causes deep tissue damage whilst hooks and certainly large ones do. And almost exclusively these lures with large hooks come barbed and I think this also creates risk to cause greater damage to often smaller fish in Canals.

    • @Declan-pg8cg
      @Declan-pg8cg 3 роки тому +2

      Larger sized hooks take more energy to set down to the bend, especially with a substantial barb. Smaller hooks take less energy, have a smaller cross-section and shorter travel distance to the bend giving them a more secure hold. Large hooks are over-kill and unnecessarily damaging to most small to medium pike.

    Hi, just getting back into lure fishing. Been away from fishing for a while. What is the best way, to attach a lure to the wire trace. Old fashion way, just tied it on. Now, from what i see. You get links for the lure and wire trace! Thanks in advance

    Who whole Spiel sounds like what a newb would get in a bad tackle shop. You'll need one of those, one of those, actually why not make it 2. For a change it's worth trying one of those too, and one of those. You leave the shop with 20 different types of shad, in 30 different colours, and a load of other crap you didn't need.
