    This is gold. I was a huge Faldo fan when I started out watching and playing and this stuff is really fascinating. I remember him hitting the chicken wing fade into the 11th at Augusta in the play off to beat Ray Floyd. Watch the clip and you can see that there was never a chance the ball was going left.

    Out of all the Pro golfers in the world who do golf clinics Sir Nick's would be at the top of my list. They say those that can do those that can't teach but he is the exception in that he can communicate clearly exactly what going on. That and he had one of the best mental approaches to the game ever. Great video thanks for sharing this.

    Faldo gets so much flack for being that self centered guy etc, he was way ahead of his time in understanding that the mind is a huge factor in pro (and amateur) golf. His swing is talked about as holding up under pressure , and as technically good as it was you can just tell it was his presence of mind and routine that allowed him to perform at the very highest level. His book , A Swing For Life is a brilliant instructional publication, these kids are so fortunate to have this opportunity to learn from a true golfing great. A playing lesson of 18 holes with him would be a golfing education of the very highest caliber.

    Like him or not, Faldo had the balls to rebuild his swing under Leadbetters tuition when Faldo was already a good player. Europes best ever golfer in terms of Major Wins (6 times) . Young and old golfers could learn an awful lot from his mental approach to the game.

    People underrate how far he actually hit it. He was long enough to keep winning in modern times. Fast running fairways is the real reason for distance gains. The ball is a Red Herring.
    Tremendous Class.

    • @alwhyte6533
      @alwhyte6533 5 років тому

      Too true. He comes form the age of persimmon woods and wound, three piece golf balls. I come from that same period, and even getting a sweet strike from those woods was difficult, to say the least. Modern 'woods' are just so forgiving in terms of sweet striking that you CAN give it a proper lash and not worry too much about whether you're going to get a sweet strike, only worrying about where the ball is going, really. However, playing with those clubs has made me a better golfer, much more prepared to take time over shots, much better at striking (I still play blades), and just all round better as a player. I very rarely hit over 80 now...

    • @pauledmondson7071

      That is a great point, the ball runs for ever on modern tour fairways. Ive played for 50 odd years, and ive noticed no change in how far the ball goes, old or modern clubs.

    I agree with a few others comments. Sir Nick is confusing these Children and could easily confuse most Amateur Adult Golfers but everything that comes out of his mouth is true and helpful. But I just truly believe "one on one" instruction would be the most beneficial to everyone. It's just so hard nowadays to find and trust a local pga pro who can teach that one on one and at the same time be affordable.

    Sir Nick is trying to get the kids to think for themselves. Mastery doesn’t come from being told what to do but by figuring out how how it is done so you can remake it for yourself. The best chefs practice their recipes for months before putting them on a menu because quality or performance is Knowledge, Practice and Talent. Talent is the least important. Knowledge is the most important. Practice is the only way you can tie it all together.

      @@whenisasnakeatail4933 Wow thank you for your reply. That’s very nice of you. Of course what you say is quite true. But I wasn’t asking if he was a closet homosexual was I or secret trench coat flasher wearing the disguise of wig and sunglasses. It’s just an ordinary every day question which sometimes is recorded on Wikipedia. I now don’t particularly recall why I asked the question. Maybe I was trying to get some insight into his character but it wasn’t to condemn or judge him. I wish I hadn’t asked it. I suspect he’s either an agnostic or an atheist. But these types of questions are usually acceptable for public figures. I believe Jack Nicklaus believes in God. I suppose I was wondering if Nick was the same. But hey if it’s any consolation to you my friend I no longer want to know. If you find out, please keep it to yourself. Let it be the worlds best secret shall we. Sheesh people are so tetchy these days. Get a life why don’t you. Hey no offence buddy but good on you for sticking up for Sir Nick who is a man that I happen to like, like so many others do. In the unlikely event of ever meeting him I’ll tell him about your great loyalty. He’ll be impressed I’m sure. In the meantime happy golf. I don’t keep score anymore. @@whenisasnakeatail4933 I personally think it’s better to be real and be what you are and in many ways I think this is the way Nick is. To me it’s a better way to be. Yeah sure I believe in God and because of it I lose votes because it’s not popular.Too bad how sad. I suppose if I was an atheist I’d be just as vocal. I think Mr Greg Norman, who’s obviously totally AOK can be a bit unreal and does so to boost himself. And I reckon that sort of shaky confidence cost him majors which he should have won because he had the game for it. I say be what you are warts and all. People might not like what you are but they’ll respect you for being you. But today everyone wants to be like Elvis and win ‘em all and not put a foot out of place. But Elvis believed in God didn’t he and didn’t hide it. The bottom line is this. If you try and please everyone you’ll dilute your uniqueness and end up pleasing less people. If you want to be really real, you have to let it all hang out. Ok so you don’t believe in God. Don’t hide it. That’s my philosophy or my dimes worth. Keep talking to me if you like but if not I wish you all the best friend. Take care and keep loving those fairways and greens. Personally I don’t like those golf courses that have alligators. I’d have one less club in the bag and replace it with a 308. Any alligators would get it which I’d score as a hole in one. 😂

    • @paulwilfridhunt
      @paulwilfridhunt Рік тому

      @@whenisasnakeatail4933 Yes you bring up a very good point. But it’s a question of getting everything in perspective isn’t it. In other words we don’t want to confuse politics with religion. Much of religion is actually politics. The Jews who crucified Christ did so under the banner of religion but it was actually politics. Christ quite rightly accused them of being hypocrites hence they nailed him for it. The Catholic Church which is essentially a control mechanism is rife with all sorts of perverts although it also has its fair share of good people. It’s a complex subject which I happen to have a good handle on. Essentially all religions with the exception of Judaism and Christianity are man made fabrications to stop the poor from murdering the rich. Judaism got superseded by Christianity which largely got hijacked by those who want to control the world. To view it in its simplest form is to use the example of a simple basic primitive tribe that has a witch doctor. His true purpose unbeknownst to the tribal members is to keep the chief in power whom he works in with, hand and glove. The chief’s greatest danger is the tribal members. They can easily become discontent because he has a much better life. And without a witch doctor he will get overthrown hence the existence of the witch doctor. And also the existence of all these crazy religions which the atheists point the finger at as an excuse to not believe in God. Some of these control mechanisms in ancient times really tamed the people giving great safety to the rich. Baal worship really crushed the people. They had to throw their first born child into a sacrificial fire. Talk about cruelty. And it might seem crazy to us today but it was impossible to stamp out this cruel religion. It’s hard for us to comprehend how this could be so. Even the Jews at different times would go off the rails and partake in its foul practices. It’s makes you wonder doesn’t it. The only way it could be stamped out is everyone in those societies had to be killed even infants because eventually they would have instigated Baal worship again. And God commanded the Jews to kill them all. Maybe you and I would have done it differently. But we’re not God. And even though you and I might think we know what’s best, however God knows better. Yes God destroyed everyone in the flood. They had gone bad. But he saved the righteous 8 on the Ark and you and I are descendants of the 8. And whilst you might see God as maybe being tyrannical, take the following into consideration. God knows everything and He knew before He created the human race that He would have to become a man and be sacrificed on a cross in order to save the race. But nevertheless He creates us anyway knowing full well what’s in store for Him. If that’s not love then what is? And He would save all if all would accept Him in the form of Jesus Christ. But we know that many will reject Him, with you being one of them. Like I say it’s a complicated subject which I happen to understand inside out and back to front. But where you are at is you don’t want God to exist and you don’t want to be ruled by Him. The greatness of God overshadows your greatness and diminishes you and you aren’t too crazy about that. You will be looking for ways to wag the finger at God to substantiate your position. Anyway if you want to keep talking and not throw your hands up in horror or disgust then be my guest. No problem.

      @paulwilfridhunt Рік тому

      @@whenisasnakeatail4933 As an absolute aside to witch doctors and all that jazz let me share some golf observations. I presume you too play golf. Firstly let me say I’m a terrible golfer. Actually, I know I shouldn’t even be playing the game, but the problem is I have hope. Which has me hoping I’ll improve. I’m not a golf nut like a friend of mine who can talk about putting for 3 hours which is ok if you’re not trapped in a car with him, although he’s an intelligent guy whom I enjoy listening to. And I like the guy. But I love fairways and greens and beautiful golf courses. And whilst I can talk on the subject of God till the cows come home I can also listen. I don’t force myself to do it. It just comes naturally. I’m interested if you know what I mean. I have a wide variety of interests from boxing to the ballet. My curiosity levels are very high which I directly attribute to Mozart and other similar fine music. I’m 76 and still in business which for me is fun. Most of my life I’ve really been a bit of a 2 bit trader although this seems to be changing. I’m no Shakespeare but seemingly I can communicate with the pen. But back to golf I’ll say this about Nick although we should be calling him Sir Nick shouldn’t we. This guy is one tough hombre. That’s how he won 3 masters. I think he could have won the US Open and the PGA but maybe it wasn’t meant to be if you want to start talking about fate. I don’t think he really had a yearning burning desire to win them. He’s essentially quite a conservative person and maybe that’s because he’s English. Having the royal family produces that effect upon the population. I’m a royalist myself although I’m a New Zealander. The USA doesn’t have this advantage. I presume you’re an American. The existence of the Royal family and what they do really helps society in so many different ways. But there will be the jealous ones who would undoubtedly disagree with me. I thought Nick’s comment of “ I’ve got you mate” when talking about Greg at the Masters was an interesting one. Nick spotted Greg’s lack of confidence. And maybe Fuzzy spotted it too at dinner with Greg the night before the playoff when he won the Open. It’s all about confidence isn’t it. Ok sure yeah you’ve got to have the game Ah but without the prerequisite confidence it’s not enough is it. Nick is essentially a down to earth type. He didn’t turn up in a Lamborghini to ram the other guys did he. Hey that can work but it’s a shaky foundation. I was surprised to see it work for Phil wearing his green jacket on the practice putting green to get to the other guys. I didn’t think that was very nice at all. Not nice. I think he won that year, I’m not sure. But he never would have beaten Nick in his hay day. Ever. Why? Because Nick had more confidence and the game to go with it. But now that he’s no longer a spring chicken he will have his challenges, although he shouldn’t have. Those great victories can keep him going for 2 lifetimes. He likes to achieve. I’m disappointed with the new breed of golfers on tour. The way they spit and swear. I’d never go to watch them. I like gentlemen. I suppose soon they’ll be getting tattoos. Regrettably they are going to the dogs. They’ve lost the plot.

      @@whenisasnakeatail4933 I am probably what you could describe
      as a raconteur who holds the floor but instead of speaking I write. But in real life I can sit back and be quiet although if the occasion calls for it I can be larger than life. Let me share my thoughts with you on LIV golf. There is the possibility that the viewing public might eventually shun it unless they come up with some amazing PR. It’s not right to blame players for joining for the money and getting an easier life. We all want that. But I think it’s sad that so many people are materialists. Yes get what you want. Get the creature comforts you need. But if you get it to show it off or want to tell others about it, then in my book you are a materialist. And materialism doesn’t produce long term happiness. I don’t care what others have as long as I get what I want. But what I want I don’t want others to know about it. Therefore I’m not a materialist. I’m happy for the result it produces for me. Jack Nicklaus isn’t a materialist is he. He plays it down. If someone has more money than me I don’t feel put down. But maybe some of these LIV golfers are materialists. Maybe not. I don’t know. Are they happy? Maybe they are. And if they are how long will they stay that way. The general public understands they did it for the money and in many ways they are understanding of it because that’s life. But the public is funny. They don’t like disloyalty. They used to like John Rahm but now they love the guy because of his loyalty. They are crazy about him. And the genuine support of the public is a real thing. It helps the golfer. When a golfer loses the support of the public his game suffers. When Matt Kuchar stiffed his caddie and the public knew about it, his game suffered. When Tiger got caught with his fingers in the cookie jar his game went to pieces, because he knew that Jack and others like him could not be admiring his behaviour and subsequently he lost his confidence in being able to believe he could win. And I’m not sure, but there’s the possibility that the LIV players are feeling a bit the same way. I’m guessing of course. I guess time will tell, won’t it. But good luck to them. But it might not end up being all beer and skittles.

    Prepare ? I don't think nick did a lot to prepare for this lesson he's giving lol... stumbling all over the place and he seems a bit unorganized. I know that's a bit harsh but I just thought i'd throw that out there lol. Great golfer though and really like his commentary and he's very entertaining :)

    kids usually resonate with young golfers they get to see on TV every week. Can you honestly see any kids really engaged? Half of them are looking at the ground bored out of their minds listening to his old war stories.
    Great golfer in his prime but he can't teach to save his life and completely unaware he's teaching young kids. "Here kids, important to warm up your wrists, ok when you're young but when you get older..." What? They're probably thinking "'Yeah, thanks grandpa, I'm really interested in these warm up exercises for old people", along with "when is Rory or Spieth coming?".

      If those kids are bored listening to europe's most successful golfer ever, then they probably need to go home and get stuck into their iphone. If you think the problem is Nick, then I would suggest that nobody is misunderstanding millenials than you, sir.

      The kids who can't appreciate that a once popular PGA Tour professional is speaking to them, aren't going to make it far in the sport anyway.
