he really gave those guys some value. he uses knowledge of the players from past and present. knew the way the greats would swing their clubs. and wrapped it all up some humour. and throughout his love of the game really shines through.
I was fortunate enough to attend something very similar to this in Perth WA. Thanks for reminding me what a wonderful person and golfer Gary Player is.
5:34 bro starts a crowd clap and stops...it's about the follow through....you gotta listen to Gary! Light the match. Keep going! Gary is legend, best advice ever.
Thankyou you just made my day so much more worth sticking around for tomorrow's golf weather weather or not the weather is pushing up Daisy's or just hanging around in the clouds just hope there's no crowds to see me mess it up ❤️
I was at a practice round 1972 US Open Pebble Beach. I was 18, me and a couple other teens were able to walk down the fairway with Player and he gave us kids golf lessons. Wow, walk-in down fairways with golf greats and getting lessons, what a time. He was exactly the same then as he was in this video.
Years ago I saw him at Cherry Hills Country Club in Denver hit 2 buckets of practice balls with his 3 wood after he told his swing coach that he was unhappy with that club's performance on the course that day. I watched him hit every ball and they all went in the same area. I was unable to determine what changes he made to his swing; but he was apparently satisfied after 2 buckets.
"You're an 18? You and I play tomorrow. You hit every drive, every second shot.....I take over......you're a 4 handicap..... Lets go play tomorrow, I hit every drive and you take over....... You're a 16 handicap......" #HarshTruth He says things I don't want to but NEED to hear.
Gotta love how Gary regales his students with his 1000 plus situp routine while most the blokes standing behind him couldn't even bend down to tie their shoes.
I strongly agree the part about coaches wanting to change the greats' swing, like Bobby's and Eldrick's. Why change something that allows you to win 4 majors in a row?
I think we start to see much more exotic swings again, modern coaches start to learn how to work with individuals rather than trying to cookie cutter them. E.g. see Wolff who worked with Gankas, what an amazing unique swing..
“Golf is played from 100yrds in” I truly beleive in that theory, the better your short game is the better player you are, its not d driver not fairway wood nor long irons i just put them in fairway but with my short irons i have to be accurate.
coz every time I watch him he tells us he does 4million situps in 5mins that's why,,,,if he could learn to STOP that bit he would be great...Every time, let it lie Gary...you are a legend without that bit...great clinic
I love Gary Player, but it's incredible how when it comes to ball striking (I do admit Trevino and Hogan are probably in the top 20 period) how Jack and Tiger (especially in his prime 2006--2009) are NEVER mentioned. Jack, incredibly, not only won 18 Majors, but finished second a mind boggling 20 times. Whose BALL STRIKING would you take? Seriosly? Hogan, Trevino or Jack..or Tiger when he dominated for more than 10 years? It's like a fascination with a certain love for Hogan or Trevino because of their stories (Trevino a man basically that came nothing--the best rags to riches story in the PGA - And Hogan's comeback from that car accident) that can't deal with Jack or Tiger.
I think no golfer will ever supplant Hogan in Gary's mind as the greatest ball striker because Ben was the player that Gary held in the highest regard because of his work ethic, accomplishments, and his comeback after the car accident. I believe it was Johnny Miller who said Tiger was the best ball striker - better than Hogan or Nicklaus.
@@jamesanthony5681 For those 12 years that Tiger dominated...wow. However, what would Jack have to do to get your vote as the greatest ball striker--CONSIDERING WHAT'S AT STAKE? Which was almost always Majors with major-type pressure. Pressure he pretty much swatted away like a bothersome fly.
@@wreckim If I had to put money on either Jack or Tiger if both tied going into the final round of a major, it'd be Jack simply because he was in that position so many times. Nicklaus always seemed to make those early great runs in the final round of a major ( 4 or 5 under after 9, it seemed) . Jack's record in the majors was yes, phenomenal. In his prime, Jack admitted he was not the best wedge player, chipper off the green, bunker player. I believe if Tiger were born 30 years earlier and had joined the tour in 1962, he would have forced Nicklaus to become a better player in those areas. No question. Nicklaus would have responded and worked harder at those parts of his game, not that he didn't work hard. Jack said he wasn't great in those areas because he said he didn't have to be: he was the greatest long iron player, the longest, straightest driver, and the best clutch putter. And the best at managing his game and handling pressure. He was the only player in his era who said he played terrible after shooting a 68.
@@jamesanthony5681 Agree. BTW, all the top pros are so incredibly good at everything nowadays. A few weeks ago Rory went in the water twice, and took him two shots to get out of a certain bunker during the round highlights TGC was showing. He still shot a 68. They make so many birdies...like 5 to 7 etc...that if things go right they shoot in the low - mid 60s often. 2c. An aside note, even at 60 yrs.+ Tom Watson wasn't a bad ball striker either. So many to choose from.
@@wreckim Yes, all the top guys are pretty good at everything. Jordan Spieth is an average driver (relative to the competition), not the longest or most accurate, but compensates with his short game.
+Fred Wilson That's the thing none of the other greats boast about what they've done like he does. He's a legend and an amazing physical specimen for 80 but fuck me he never stops bragging and putting others down.
Gary Player is so mindless at times. The game progresses, stop living in your era. The current swings are better because they have taken all the best aspects of great historic swings. With all the research and tech we have today, to say that someone did it better 60 years ago is just crazy. Give the respect current players deserve.
Beg to differ, friend. The current swings are NOT better. They are so varied, that you cannot say "the current swing" at all. In fact, they are probably a bit worse than in years past, given how technology has improved things like forgiveness on off-centred hits. However, the fundamentals are the same, no matter which era. If you do the right things right, you'll be a good golfer. And Gary Player is still playing and, up until very recently, was still winning. So enough talk about "his era", please.
@@interestedbystander196 so you’re claiming all the launch monitors, body tracking software and biomechanics have players swinging worse than guys who did it by just beating ball with trial and error and didn’t actually understand the basic physics behind path v club face when shaping shots? I watched Mr. player giving tips at the Master's practice round, to the younger pros. They didn't miss a word.

GREAT CLINIC LITTLE BRO!
A true legend! I wonder how far he hits his drives at 80 years young? I'll bet he can still take apart almost any course from the white tees.
According to Andy North he said he just played with Gary and he shot 69 this year with him.
They say he is hitting 270 yard drives at 83
I'd say at least 250 on average at the time of this video he has so much energy for his age it's insane
