More to come! Next build should be the 1/32 hurricane probably over a few shorter videos, cockpit, main assembly, painting etc making it easier for reference and if people are short on time

Just watched this year old video build of you Fm2, WONDERFUL. Always liked the Atlantic area camouflage color scheme.

Thank you Bob, I actually loved making this plane I found it very rewarding with enough challenges to test most modellers with experience. It sits proudly in my display case 👍

What a fine job! A really sweet kit. I was amazed at the fiddly pieces on the gear. Decal sheet. But you managed Nicely. Great heads up with your build. Truly not an early builder kit. I like how 1/72 kits are so much easier to display once completed. But the small parts are really a challenge when your Patiance needs to be 100%. Thank you for sharing your build! Cheer's

Thank you Tony. This kit was a really nice build and the certainty is it is not as easy as some people say and believe the Airfix version is easier. But when done gives a sense of satisfaction and looks are definitely better. Absolutely loved making it because of the challenges and overcoming them. Thank you for the compliment

Nice build of a fine kit. My only nit-pic is that the aircraft is not an F-2, but an FM-2, with U.S. Navy designations at the time using the ""M" to designate that the aircraft was manufactured by General Motors.

Thank you for your kind words there. I am late to modelling and I've been going for about a year - everyday I learn something new, often new words 😂 but it is highly addictive and I am loving every part of it, just sharing my experiences

I think you either use the decals for the seatbelts or the PE, but not both at the same time!

    • @TheScaleModeler
      @TheScaleModeler  Рік тому +4

Hi Johan, thank you for your comment however you’re thinking is mistaken; instructions clearly say PE part + decal which you can verify on scalemates. That’s not to say I disagree with your comment because I think it’s crazy as well but I was just following the instructions on this one and thought why not let’s see what it goes like. TBH a lot of the PE is overkill as you can hardly see it when completed. Thanks for watching- it’s appreciated

      Hi there
Cut the decal out to get the correct shape for painting the camo, then when painted and glossed apply the real one 👍

I built two Arma Hobby kits, Yak and Hurricane and was not super impressed by neither of them. The problem is they are just too detailed, I don't believe in the current mantra more detail, better kit, I think there is a proper amount of detail related to the scale and too much is just too much. Especially Hurricane was bad, I spent like two weeks building a cockpit that at end was half inch long and no one can see what is really inside even with magnifying glass and that's exactly too much of detail. I'm glad they have took a lesson from this, because apparently the interior of this newer kit is way simpler and the amount of detail seem reasonable for 1/72 scale.
The other thing I don't like is their kits show the lack of experience in designing models and instead of learning from more experienced kit makers they tend to go their own way, which rarely works. So their kits have a lot of questionable design choices that make assembly unnecessarily complicated. I wouldn't blame them for that landing gear though, because the landing gear on Wildcat is always nightmare. The original was so complicated that is is really hard to replicate in easy way.
Strange problems with fitting are also common, for example in the Hurricane kit pretty much every single hole is too small for its alignment pin to fit into. Not a big issue, just rather stupid error, which you won't see when building other kits on the market.
I liked the surface detailing, which is very nice and also the decals, which are easy to work with, but at the same time way softer and thinner than for example always too thick Tamiya decals, which are because of it almost unusable in this small scale.

Hi Dusan, thank you for your thoughts here. I am dare I say it in agreement to some degree. I felt this kit was over rated by the modelling community. I absolutely loved the build and finished product but did it go together without issues? No it did not.
I had to sand back the engine cowlings and also re-rivet them. I think that could have been much better. The small antenna at the rear was a pre-moulded part which is crazy to have such a delicate part where the model is constantly being handled. Surprisingly it lasted right until the end when it did get broken. I didn't use about 30% of the PE parts because they were just too small and wouldn't be seen.
On the other hand, modelling is about the journey so I am sure for lots of people the fine details is something they would crave and look for.
So yes, I would buy Arma again, but my go to manufacturer is Tamiya and Eduard
Really appreciate the feedback - hope to see you again

@@TheScaleModeler I think we can definitely agree on that pre-moulded antennas are evil and should be banned by the international convention as a crime against modellers. 😀
