Just watched parts 1 & 2. Enjoyed it and gave me some good ideas on painting. In the process of building a 1/48 Dauntless and will definitely incorporate them.
Love your videos, Chad. Relatable! Yup, those little Airfix kits are wonderful. Still, haters gonna hate on Airfix. They did have issues with the quality of the plastic, etc, but gee, they have improved their kits.
For sure. A vast improvement over the last few years. I never listen to the haters as most of them do more time complaining than actually building. Appreciate the good feedback. Happy Modeling!!
The WILDCAT is my favorite aircraft from WW2... I have this kit...also have a ACADEMY 1/72 WILDCAT...with photo etch parts and a SQUADRON canopy... I also have three REVELL 1/72 WILDCATS... with the classic box art from I think late 60s 70s Built quite a few MONOGRAM 1/48 WILDCATS thru the years...all with different markings MARINE , US NAVY , Wake island defenders. , BUTCH O’ HARE GUADALCANAL DEFENDERS...OPERATION TORCH in North Africa...tough little airplane
Awesome, Chad ! I have a question regarding your oil paint technique... if I’m using MRP lacquer paint for my base, would putting mineral spirits on it lift the lacquer base coat?
Thanks, Johan. I appreciate the good words. I'm not sure that it would. I use it over AK Real Colors that are a lacquer based acrylic without any issues. I'd do a test run just in case, though. Let me know how it works so we can share with the community here. Thanks again!
looks great! love it. can you please elaborate more on the painting process? i tried blackbasing and preshading but it still doesnt give that worn, faded looks yours's does.
Thank you. I appreciate the feedback. I used an oil weathering technique as you may have seen in another video. Here's a link just in case you missed it. If you need more information, just let me know. All the best to you! ua-cam.com/video/HEG6Db3A04E/v-deo.html
I’ve recently found your channel and will be following more of your uploads. Many compliments to you for your relaxed, modest and informal commentary as well as the great skills and techniques you introduce us to. I am really in awe of the steady hands you have when detail painting in the cockpit etc.. Also your confidence and care in airbrushing around the unmasked cockpit. How long did you leave the oil washes to dry before placing the decals? Or have you a speedy drying method? + What varnish do you then apply? Excellent work, thank you.
Thank you for the good words, Dave. I'm glad you found the channel and I hope that you continue to enjoy the build features and other uploads I make. I try to keep things relaxed since it is a hobby and that's what they are for, after all :) With regards to the oil washes, it depends on which ones. The oil filters I apply directly over the flat paint using a barrier of white spirits, I pretty much remove right away. The oil washes that I apply for the panel lines, I just let those dry about 15 mins or so before wiping them off with a paper towel. I've been using AK's Ultra Matte Varnish for most of my models but honestly, my current bottle has started producing some chalky results so I've come back over that with a coat of Model Masters Flat from a spray can. That's been giving me the finishes that I like and that are a little more durable. Thanks again for the feedback!
Where did you get that waldron punch set? Do they still make it? If not, can you suggest a similar one? Great content. Im really enjoying your channel.
Thanks, LT. Unfortunately they don't make it anymore but here's a link to one from Micro Mark that has the same sizes: www.micromark.com/Micro-Punch-Set
I just use a regular straight pin and cut off the head with a pair of wire cutters. You can use a sewing needle too, of course. I think I might have an Amazon link to some cheap straight pins in the video description. Not sure, though. Hope this helps.
Really appreciate that kind of feedback and I'll incorporate those suggestions in the future. But until then, those lighter colors sprayed after the dark wash are successively lighter shades of interior green, lightened each time with yellow green oxide.
Thanks for checking out the channel. I'm relatively new myself but look forward to continuing to share builds, reviews, tips and techniques, and more. Feel free to share any specific interest going forward.
Nope, not on Amazon. But you can get it for about 10 bucks without shipping on eBay. Before Hobby Lobby stopped carrying the small Airfix kits, you could get it there too, for less than 10 bucks. Amazon ain't the cheapest on everything, that's for sure.
@@FlyingSModels The hobby lobby near me hasnt gotten rid of the small kits. Maybe they just had a backlog? Are they giving up on modelling or something?
Contest winner indeed..!
A very pleasurable build.
Thank you, Gendo. Appreciate that!
I can listen to this music and watch for hours likely. Well done.

Excellent. I'm a Wildcat fan too. Built several of the 1/48 Tamiya and Hobby Boss versions but this was my first in 1/72 scale. Happy Modeling!
This model is awesome. I think the only little problem is the raised detail on the kit , but it looks awesome congrats
Thanks, Leo. Appreciate that feedback. Really enjoyed the little build.
amazing first part cant wait to see part 2

Great vid, excellent work on the Wildcat.
Appreciate the feedback!
Excellent video. What grit sanding sponge do you use to knock down the fuselage half join seams?
Thanks, Brett. I have a dual grit 220/400 that I used. The 220 is a bit rough for the really soft Airfix plastic but the 400 works well.
@@FlyingSModels Thanks so much for responding and answering my question. Look forward to your future videos.

@@FlyingSModels thanks! I never knew oils could have such an impact on models. I can't wait to try this on my own wildcat.
I live the 1:72 airfix aircraft. Really all of then because they are so cheap, but such high quality.
The sure are. Great little kits.

Thank you very much. Part 2 is not too far behind. Stay tuned in.
Great job so far, Chad. What airbrush are you using?
Thanks for the feedback. Finished the build and working the video for part 2 now. I use a Badger Renegade Velocity.
@@FlyingSModels I have a Patriot. Do you have one of those?
I like this plane a lot
Glad you like it. It's a really nice little kit.
8:52 did you coat before weathering with oil paint and white spirit?
Nope, just applied the white spirits straight over the flat paint. That's what helps create the effects.
@@FlyingSModels thank you!!

Q: the pin u used to re-scribe panel lines, is that just a sewing needle or a product that can be purchased online ?
I just use a regular straight pin and cut off the head with a pair of wire cutters. You can use a sewing needle too, of course. I think I might have an Amazon link to some cheap straight pins in the video description. Not sure, though. Hope this helps.

Thank you, Jaime. I appreciate the kind words and the sub. All the best to you!
nice kit! good video!
Thanks for the feedback. It's a really nice kit for sure.
I wish all colors were identified - Interior green with a dark wash, then a second unidentified sprayed color , followed by a lighter wash?

Your panel lines are far too noticeable and your panel shading too distinctive...you made the same error on the spitfire...
Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback and opinion on the finished model.
