The magic is also in the editing. I've noticed that there are channels with dedicated editors and then there's the ones that just point and shoot + cut & compile + slap music on top. And of course some channels are ran by talented multitasking individuals with very good editing skills. My gripes on something like Tavarish and Cleetus channels are those age old montage music tracks.
Of course there is a million ways to make good content and it doesn't need to be "pro" or super film quality stuff with camera runs, moving time lapses and multi camera setups. And when one does these things as a living, I very much understand the time constraints and how it may affect the outcome and the content.
I really like when channels show the reality and the hard times, their own mistakes, mishaps and their learning along the way. Also making some sort of stand about things related to the content and especially ideas of how to overcome them or change the flawed things in a broader viewpoint is very good to see and hear.

I think Jared could have taken it just a little further, explaining that while one cylinder may contain incompressible fluid (such as pond water!) which dead-stops the piston from moving up, the other cylinders are still firing and trying to make the crankshaft and flywheel continue their rotation. It's a kind of 'irresistible force meets immovable object' scenario - SOMETHING is inevitably going to break! That something is most often the connecting rod of the hydro-locked cylinder. The same concept applies even to hydro-locked single cylinder engines (such as on dirt bikes etc.), due to the rotational inertia of the crankshaft and heavy flywheel.

THATS HOW I LOST MY FIRST ENGINE IN MY FIRST CAR. I was driving my 1982 Supra with cold air intake across country and got caught in a downpour in Oklahoma. Exited the freeway and ended up in a lake. I flipped the key off as soon as possible but not soon enough. Bent a rod. Kept driving and made it another 80 miles before it finally let loose and went through the block in 3 places and that ended my trip.

I know its long gone, but for anyone else in this sort of situation (Need to nurse it home not blewed up) - pull each plug one by one and listen for the one that changes the knock volume the most. Then pull that plug and run it open air. Might be more porblematic on some engines with weak threads (ford 2v 5.6's) . In that case, just pull the ignition cable and run a cylinder down. Also, throw whatever oil honey you can in there like lucas, because its already... far gone. But you need to get it home.

Hate to post on an old video, but I hadn't seen this one before. What a fantastic demonstration of hydrolock! I learned of this issue with motorcycles, rather than swimming trucks. Failure of a gravity-fed petcock combined with a stuck open needle valve will fill a cylinder with fuel. Ya might not blow a hole in the block, but certainly a con-rod or worse! Great content you have here, even if your choices are questionable. 👍

I am so old, I watched them build the pyramids. Well it feels like it, that said... my enjoyment came from watching how that pan works with the pump and noticing a single roller timing chain. I have always thought that a single was plenty heavy to handle a camshaft turning around. I didn't pay enough attention to when it went in, if it had a tensioner on the cam chain... assuming that it does in some way that reduces the slack in the chain and affecting the timing. Never got to tear down one of those LS engines. Lucky for us kids that the LS engine is widely available for other applications. What I did see was a pan that would work with a dry sump pretty well. Or you can turn it on its side and still get oil to that pump. Not too sure on how well this type of engine would take to doing the hydrogen fuel application as those injectors need a liquid to open. I have made several hydrogen engine set ups on older engines and they really do run extremely well. Power wise, not quite as much as gasoline engines but mileage in the range of three hundred miles per gallon of water thats broken into hydrogen and oxygen... not the hydrolocking fluid that removes pieces from a engine. That cam you used for this engine would really work well for hydrogen is a guess of mine. I wish I could still walk around... these engines fascinate me. I have a bunch of ideas that would just be grand for myself to build, as I too enjoy the natural look a old rig has worked hard for. I am not much into fake patina but some of them look good. Nice job of explaining stuff, I do have questions but just don't know how to word them. 73 is just a whole different world to this gen talk

I got stuck in a flash flood and exited the freeway into a flooded off ramp in my ‘76 TR-7. I thought my electrical system shorted out when the road went dark. But then I noticed the rim of the puddle light up like a fiber optic cable. My lights were on, just under water. My stick shift boot looked like a whale’s blow hole and flooded the floorboard to cover the clutch, brake, and gas pedal. I was able to drive through the puddle and all the way home. My horizontal draft stromburg carburetor acted like a snorkel. I changed the engine oil, transmission gear oil, and differential oil and hadn’t had any negative effects from the flood.
But I was fortunate that a neighbor had a part’s car and a few months later I bought the car to perform a body swap as I had a rusty Chicago car with a low milage ‘80 engine and I was living in California, so the parts car was an original paint white California mint body ‘77 TR-7. I drove it back to Chicago, applied old engine oil to the chassis every oil change and the car looked new for many years.
I did have to get a revive junk title in California . So I rebuilt all of the breaks bearings and rotors. Replace all if the lights. I passed on the first inspection. The title said the car was built in 1989, the year I performed the body swap. It was as close to a frame off restoration as you can get with a unibody. And since I hand assembled it my self in California, it was a very reliable car. Reliable for a Triumph.

Good job. I was surprised that you didn't paint the motor while you had the chance

I have a 72 IH Travelall 4x4 3/4 ton with a 392 and both fuel tanks work great and the gauge works on both of them. Ive been driving it since 1979 when i bought it off my parents. It has a GM 14 bolt rear and IH 200 HD front 8 lug with disc brakes. BTW.. the reason you blew the engine. is the "IH Curse" your removed a IH engine for a GM... LOL.

Guaranteed to lose bottom end when going to higher duration cam.
Raise your hand 🖐🏼if you ever installed a bigger cam and lost the ability to do a brake stand? For the avg joe a Saturday night special will usually get it back. If you're up over 240° you probably need gears too.

Good episode, but I think I'd have liked to have seen a little more detail of the carnage because train wrecks are always good entertainment.

If you don't already subscribe, the "I Do Cars" channel tears down blown engines every Saturday and there's often excellent carnage.

You should put a complete running engine on a mock up stand run it and pour a gallon of water down the intake so we can see exactly what happens, also get lots of 📷 angels and slow mo ....

I agree about the patina being cool. But it being such a rare trim package it'd be wicked to see a pro touring kinda set up. Nice paint interior. The johnny reb decals on it.. if it was a regular international I'd leave the patina, this one should be mint tho. Guy in my town few years ago restored a Beau james gmc. Sold it for over 50gs

I had an engine blow up in a van I had because the radiator hose was broken when the fan belt broke and hit it. The coolent went straight into the intake and boom! Fun times.

I also love the look as is. I mean if you could get the body guy again to make it perfect and paint it on the cheap for some video content, that wouldn't be bad either but as he sits, love it. You're lucky you're not in the north east, that truck would be swiss cheese

on my 68 chevy pu i started with a stock 450 hp 454 with a 02xx trans modified it a little put a serpentine belt off of a 94 454 . it looks factory dun but it fills the engine compartment and it is tight fit but i did it with all stock parts putting it in just different years of parts. so right now i only have 1400 in the truck counting buying it and still have the 327 and 400 turbo that came with it with a bunch of aftermarket parts for sbc. the 327 has about 5,000 miles on a rebuilt

It's the same reason your brakes work - you can't compress the brake fluid, so it transfers the pressure to the calipers. If you boil the brake fluid, now there are glasses involved and the glasses compress instead of your caliper
