I find it really odd the way groomers work as almost freelancers in the US and Canada. I'm Australian, and here they're paid employees getting a decent hourly rate.
This is how my groomer takes care of my senior Newf. Comfort grooming...what he can do, she does. What he can't she doesn't. I'm so grateful she takes good care of my sweet boy. She always apologizes that he's not perfectly groomed, but in my eyes he always is! Therefore, my tip reflects my gratitude.
@@dogcrazy25 And my 7 lb Chihuahua is going on 8 and is technically a senior dog. But you wouldn't know it. The vet says his heart, lungs, and teeth are good, and he doesn't have arthritis. So far. I do watch his weight pretty carefully.
I'm glad you detailed the amount of work involved and how the grooming fee breaks down. You mentioned a cut goes to the business owner but remind people that's not all profit. It covers the cost of 5 doses of shampoo, conditioner, insurance etc..
Also utility bills. I'd guess her water bill and her electricity bill are substantial. I mean, heating all that water. Although maybe she has a gas hot water heater. And running dryers. And washing towels. Also rent for her shop - I assume she rents - and loan payments (again assuming) for equipment. As you say, etc.
Ok, it’s official. I’m grooming my dog _by myself_ if I ever get one. I’ll bring them in for the clips, but I’ll take over the bathing and brushing to save some dollars.
Yes!!! It amazes me how much people complain about the price of grooming. Even small dogs seem like they would be difficult and time consuming. Hats off to the groomers out there. 😊
My NewFi was the the best dog I ever had. The most loving soul you'd ever meet and best friend to every kid in the neighborhood. Groups of kids would ring our doorbell and ask could he come out and visit. When he saw the kids, his tail would wag so hard. Every kid left covered in drool. I'm sure their parents were thrilled 😄
I finally found a kindred soul! I too am a senior who is only comfortable laying on one side and do not pee in the grass. I, however, am not so compliant as any Newfie. Enjoyed the vid, thanks!
Talk about a gentle giant! Went through the whole ordeal without a protest to speak of. Amazing job taking care of such a mountain of fur. Well done, loved the video, thanks.
I have met multiple Newfies and I can confirm they are gentle giants. The gentle giants especially love to sit in peoples laps (they think they are small) so be prepared for a Newfie trying to plop down in your lap.
I had a Siberian Husky with a very fluffy double coat. I used to brush her out 2-3 times per week, between grooming appointments. It was a lot of work, but she was just another one of the kids and that's what she required.I see all of these dogs with all of that matting and it just breaks my heart. It's like having a child with curly hair and not brushing their hair out. People really need to understand that these beautiful huge dogs require a lot of maintenance, not just love, affection, and attention. Many blessings to everyone watching ❤❤❤
We blowdry, comb, and slick-brush our Newfie boy twice a day. He never gets matted like that. His coat is always in A1 condition. This boy's lovely, but there's an element of neglect there. 20 minutes, twice a day isn't a lot shared between two Newfie parents and I would say if that sounds like too much time, consider another breed.
At his age and health, being clean and in as little discomfort as possible is the goal. Both of you deserve a nap and cuddle after that successful marathon. Thank you for sacrificing your time and vast amounts of physical discomfort to helping this sweet baby.
Newfies are pretty much angels temperament wise, good with kids, critters, other pets, training, etc. but they come with big ticket grooming costs, having to frequently go around your place to clean up drool and fuzz, and the health concerns that come with all giant breeds(joints are especially fragile as puppies, degrade faster as adults, etc.).
That expression on his face in the shower was precious. What a great dog. Thank you for explaining the truths about grooming dogs of all breeds. It's very helpful for people like me thinking about getting a dog. I love your videos. I've been watching them from the beginning of your journey. They get better and better every year!!
Thanks for breaking down the cost/pay received by groomers when working on dogs this size. It's very humbling to see how costly this work is, both physically and mentally. God bless you for your dedication and love for these pets.

He looks (and probably feels) so much better after the groom. Thanks for demonstrating patience and kindness to a large older dog. You climb a mountain one step at a time and you can groom a large dog one part at a time. My Great Pyr: one day I comb out the chin and bib, next day arm pits and belly, another day under the tail and his tail, etc. until I get all around the dog. Getting combed out and cleaned up seems to feel good to him. Thanks again.

I groom two Newfies on my own. It takes me around 6-7hours. I don’t charge enough and I’m absolutely knackered for the days after. I’m currently pregnant so not doing them anymore as they’re too big and I have to lift them up etc. they’re not for the faint of heart! But they’re lovely dogs 💕

As a groomer, I always appreciate how you show our perspective and the decisions we make physically and financially when grooming a dog.I love my job but after five days of work, my back, shoulder and elbow are killing me. I think I need to give my body more rest and drop to 4 days but I can afford to do it. Often big dogs are just not worth the physical cost and are a large amount of work for smaller pay. Thank you for your videos. ❤️🙏🏻
