Hello, this is my chihuahua, she dates back to the 14th century and is really good with kids 🤗 that's chihuahua owners that's what they really sound like
18 years old, but still has her puppy face. You did a great job with a very frightened senior doggy--she's definitely more comfortable, I think her dry skin will be helped, and she's nice and clean now, so I think she'll feel better too.
When we picked up our deaf Bully dog from the vet, one of the techs told her that she was so sweet and pretty. The other tech looked at her and said "you know she cant hear you, right?" and the first tech said "Yes, but she can feel what I said 😡"
It's true in a way as dogs can read our faces depending on what we say. When we're loving and kind, our expressions are soft. When we're mad, our expressions are harsh and sharp. So I'm sure she was happy to get those compliments ☺️
My husband's from the South, and I know just enough to flinch reflexively at that phrase before context kicks in! (I've heard it used for everything from a genuine benediction to an indication that the end of the world is nigh :D)
I’ve said bless her little heart just as a sentiment. I’m not from the south and didn’t know that’s a thing to say in the south up until recently…. But we must say Bless Bella’s little heart because she’s so sweet and frail. What a dear!
Not only a kind and considerate comfort groom, but a fantastically educational narrative about why you did things the way you did. Bless you, the little pupper, and her people.
Even though she was scared, she will feel better. Vanessa is right to keep talking to deaf animals. They feel the vibration of the voice, especially in the deeper ranges.
my poor old pup had an awful eye infection near the end of her life. with her bad heart, dementia, and partial vision and hearing loss, putting in eye drops TERRIFIED her, we literally couldn't do that to her every day. my mom was judged for the state she was in, but we had one amazing groomer who was so patient and could somehow clean up all the eye gunk and shave all her matted fur. i'm still so grateful for her for doing everything she could and making our dog much more comfortable in her final months.
I had a longhair Chihuahua that i aquired from my rental house after the previous tenants moved out and left her. She was about 5 years old and the same color as a golden retriever. What a great dog she turned out to be. Extremely intelligent, easy going, wanted to do whatever i was doing. Lived to about 17.
Poor baby she's stressed, but she got through it. You did a great job Vanessa. Your understanding of your fur baby clients makes their grooming go so much better. 😊❤
If they didn’t like baths before, then they won’t like them AT ALL when they’re loosing their senses. Mine did not. At all. I don’t understand how they are so elderly and loosing their faculties… …but their strength says “nah. I’m staying. ” 😂
Maybe not a bath, but now all that fur has been removed and the skin is accessible? Getting her comfortable with a lap snuggle at home, and then getting a human she trusts to give her a massage with a nice skin oil or leave-in conditioner could do wonders 😊 If she enjoys cuddles, then if she's snuggled with a human she trusts, they might even be able to get away with doing it in her sleep. I've done that with an older rescue dog before and it worked like a dream. It took a few weeks to build up trust, but she seemed to really love her massage sessions. I think they relaxed her, helped her muscles feel better, and her skin and fur went from itchy to glowing. You could tell she felt good afterwards as she started to strut around the place like she was on a cosmetics advert 😂🐾💕
What a sweet little senior girl you have there in this video she’s still quite spry for being a bonafide senior citizen what a great grand dam Bella is💜🦋🦋
Oh, I bet Bella was so much more comfortable! She is adorable. Good job to her humans for taking good care of her to reach 18! I had to say goodbye to my Bella, a 13 year old Maltese, in July. She had canine dementia, so I really appreciate this Bella’s spunk and longevity. ❤
I think for a puppy whose 18 she looks fabulous! She isn't going to care if a hair is too long. Hopefully she will be more comfortable with her new hairdo when she gets home.
She's much more comfortable now and probably feels like a new puppy. Thank you for taking such great care of each one you do. I had a short hair chihuahua that lived to be 22 years old. She was very close to my dad
Bella is a sweety! 18 yrs old, deaf and blind - wow! She probably feels pretty good after the groom! It might have been scary, but if she get's another groom from you, she will probably be OK with it... after the 3rd time! AND - thank you for being aware of her trach. So many small dogs can be very delicate there. Bella you look amazing!
Aww how sweet I just lost my 18 year old long-haired Chihuahua, she'd had her groom about 3 months before her death. Mine was death, then went blind, then got dementia and forgot how to swallow so I had to make the toughest decision. She's at the rainbow bridge waiting for me❤
Thanks for taking such good care of this little old lady pup! I love how you are so tuned in to what each dog can tolerate and how you customize your groom towards that. I so enjoy watching and learning from your videos. Shout out to your grandparents and brother on The Spicy Nonna UA-cam channel. I love watching them as well. They make me laugh and make me miss my spicy Italian relatives!
It's heartwarming to see the love and care you're providing for Bella. Taking the time to groom an elderly pet can be challenging, but it's clear that you're prioritizing her comfort and well-being. Thank you for sharing.
You did a beautiful job! Kind heart and hands helping her….the best! I think she looks so much better, possibly feels better too! Thank you for your patience with all of these different babies!🥰🥰
TY for being so patient w/this little senior dog. She was so scared & I would be, too, in her condition. Your kindness and understanding toward her shows your good character, your love of animals, and the respect you give an animal under stress. I'd give you a hug! 🫂🫂🫂
Tiny little bean. I can't imagine as a human to lose my sight and hearing. For a dog, it has to be so confusing and scary. Thank you for helping her and your kindness is unwavering. ❤
Oh my goodness!! I just lost my Chihuahua Stella in June this year…she was 12. Looks just like Bella. I called my Stella, Stella Bella. This made my heart hurts so bad for her. 💔 Bless you for making Miss Bella feel better. 18! WOW! 😮 one of the things I do with all my dogs is groom them myself. I do it as part of our weekly training so I don’t have these issues like this when they get older. My Stella loved her Spa days!
The way you groomed Bella with such expertise, sensitivity and kindness was both heart-warning and impressive. I lost my almost 19 year old doggo 3 years ago. I'm 100% convinced that having such a caring and experienced groomer contributed to his comfortable longevity. Her gentle and sometimes a little hard to accept guidance was invaluable both for him and me as we navigated his super-senior years. Hugs to you Vanessa for how you handled the still beautiful Bella 💜
Vanessa you have done a brilliant job and as always you think of the doggies psychological and physical needs first which is a priority. She was a very stressed old lady- bless her heart!💜 She must have felt so much better after you groomed her. I know you feel it’s not the standard you would expect from yourself because you’re an expert and a perfectionist but in my “layman’s” eyes she looks absolutely fabulous after her groom. Thank you for sharing!😊
Dear precious little old girl. I hope my chi mix lives a long life. Perhaps her owners can find a soothing lotion or oil to moisturize and calm her dry, itchy skin. I believe she hears you despite deafness. Thanks, Vanessa, for your kindness and expertise and explaining things.
Excellent job in difficult circumstances, well done. I get why her owner didn't want to do it - when you have an elder pet you want to do what is best for them, which can conflict with how you feel when they are distressed. I often wish there was a way to tell them - trust me, this is for your own good. I thought she looked pretty good at the end.
We recently (July 2024) lost our 17 year old small tenterfield terrier. Her name was Bella.. too. She was black n white. When you have to work with your vet of many years to put your much loved doggie on a trip over that rainbow bridge, it wrecks your heart so much. Bella had a wonderful life, travelling all over Australia with her companions Charlie, a Jack Russell and Dutchie, a Fox Terrier cross. We went into everything from cities to the Outback. These dogs sniffed their way around and across Australia, camping. Charlie passed at age 6, due to epilepsy complications. Dutchie, now 6, lives every day to the full. I love my dogs more than l love people..lol. Love your work, keep up the way you treat your doggie clients. Best regards, Joh, Perth, Western Australia.
This sweetheart reminds me of my lil girl Holli Berry, not cause of how she's acting but her breed and markings. She is a groomers dream, stood still for everything, even from puppyhood. She is 11 and now living with an amazing young couple. Had to rehome her cause I had to move into senior living, I dont regret giving her up cause she has the best life possible now. Shout out to Misfit Manors Dog Rescue in NS for finding her the perfect home.
I think the Groomer booking her in with you Vanessa is a sign of great trust and respect. At least that is my take on it. Great job making Bella comfortable while keeping the stress to the minimum!
I am so, so glad you posted this video. I always felt awful when someone would see my geriatric siamese girl in her last years (18-21) because she was long-haired and she wasn't doing a good job of grooming herself anymore. She was never willing to let me brush her so I had to get her shaved down. She hated it, so it would be the world's quickest clip and it definitely wasn't pretty but it was so much better than having a hopelessly matted coat, and (much like your pup) a ton of dandruff trapped underneath.
You did such a great job. So patient and caring with her. I know it is not easy at all. Our lil mini schnauzer/yorky was full of anxiety about his baths and grooms from day one up until the end at 18. And took 2 of us to do it. One to help calm him ( usually with pnutbutter)🤣 . He was spunky , too. ❤️❤️❤️
Poor sweet little old lady ❤ you did a wonderful job Vanessa. I have vowed to take the best possible care of my girl for her forever. I sincerely hope to be bathing her at 18 too.
She looks much better, too! Hoping she feels better! You were very kind to her. I can't imagine what was going thru her mind since she can't see or hear!
She is really pretty even with the dandruff. And seems quite alert even if thats really nerves. I hope the winter of her life is comfortable and happy.
She looks so much more comfortable which to me makes her look a million bucks. There is something so endearing about comfort grooms, just makes my heart melt whenever I see them or do one myself
I can't imagine being blind and deaf and suddenly being wet with unknown hands on me. Poor lovebug
This is her dog and they are known. Blind people and dogs depend on touch.
@@babsie1952 I don't think that's one of hers, she said something about the owners around halfway
@@babsie1952 This isn't her dog. The "pet groomer" in the title is the owner, not Vanessa.
The sad part is, many of our elders experience the same. And not all hands are as kind as hers.

She sure did--AND she's 18 years old! 😂❤❤❤

As a senior, I wholeheartedly agree; it's all about the comfort, not the look. Thank you for the video. She looks like a princess.
I agree, I can empathize.
Yes, this dog's haircut still turned out much better-looking than I could have done!

And she's still got some teeth!
My dog is sixteen and also moves pretty well, even though she does refuse petting most of the time.
My dog is 13.5 years old and still goes on 45 minute long walks and she still plays fetch. She is a shih tzu and a bichon mix

Not only a kind and considerate comfort groom, but a fantastically educational narrative about why you did things the way you did. Bless you, the little pupper, and her people.
We have a few deaf dogs we groom and board. Yup, we talk to them. I believe they can feel the vibration. Not a bad job.
I reckon you might be correct, but also talking kind things I believe helps you transmit those thoughts and feeling via your hands and actions
Good job on putting her comfort first
With a dog that age comfort is pretty much the only thing which matters any more.
Even though she was scared, she will feel better. Vanessa is right to keep talking to deaf animals. They feel the vibration of the voice, especially in the deeper ranges.
THE GOBLIN NOISES
I have a long-haired Chihuahua he makes the funniest noises. It’s a breed thing.
Damn for her age lady is strong and energetic
Yeah with plenty of weight on her, you'd expect more skin and bones even when young in these small dogs but she'd sturdy.
