  • Boston, MA was home to a lot of great bands in the 1980s, and my favorite was the Neighborhoods. We used to drive from the Berkshires to see them play at UMass around the time they released their first classic 45 - Prettiest Girl b/w No Place Like Home. Following some issues with their label Ace of Hearts, they took a brief hiatus and then re-emerged with a new sound that combined punk, glam, funk and other styles. They had an incredibly funky bass player named Tim Green who was with them for about a year; when he left he was replaced by Lee Harrington who remained with them for the next decade. David MInehan was the force of nature on guitar and lead vocals, and "Careful Mike" Quaglia was the amazing drummer and second vocalist. I eventually met them and got to open for them quite a few times in the 1980s and 1990s. Thay are all very nice guys and amazing musicians! David Minehan has gone on to produce many bands at his Woolly Mammoth Sound studio, and also played with many great bands including The Replacements! This tape is a bit worn as I have played it so many times, but I hope you enjoy it!
The Rusty Nail was in Sunderland, Mass. They hosted many legendary shows including the Buzzcocks, the Damned, the Dead Kennedys, X, The Ramones, James Brown, John Lee Hooker, Tom Waits, Link Wray, NRBQ, Robin Lane and the Chartbusters and way too many more to list them all!
