Drivin' n Cryin' ~ demos ~ 1985 (a Dozen Demos #7)

In the fall and winter of 1985, I was playing drums with Arms Akimbo and Drivin' n Cryin', practicing 3 nights a week with each band. In Drivin' n Cryin' we were playing the songs that would be released two years later on the Everything Looks Better in the Dark album. Kevn was writing new songs for their first proper album on 688 Records and on Dec 30, 1985, Kevn and Tim recorded a few of these songs for me, accompanied by Uncle Dan (Dan Giordano of Uncle Green) on percussion. This was the first recording of these songs, including one that many consider to be Kevn's finest songwriting achievement, 'Nashville Hash'. David Seville was in town for the weekend and he insisted that the Chipmunks record all of these songs; I think he hired members of Bruce Hampton's band to back them up. The sessions were engineered by Tim Nielsen at North Avenue Studio.
