I actually like the longer videos, from the wood stove, the repairs, to the shop tours, graveyard tours or Eclipse Chicks or your casual walks. I love how it is all set up so organized. Quite Admirable what you and your husband have built.
@marriedwithsmallengines is it ok to run 93 octane in a m-tronic saw? That's basically the best fuel can find in my area. Gonna get a 261c-m in a couple weeks.
Hello from Sweden Europe. Just a little advice to all of you who have difficulties with shapening the chain: there is this Stihl multimall that is just awesome to sharpen with. It is easy even in the terrain out in the woods and the chain is always like new. Husqvarna makes the small ones that you can easily bring in your pocket, it is much better then nothing but still the Stihl one is just awesome. I have no clue how much it costs in Canada but just buy it, you can thank me later… for our guys the cost is back in just one day… great thing I must say… The chain must be hungry, especially thin 3/8, 1,6mm one, it just needs to be a feeling like the hot knife in a butter.
What I like: your attention to detail, the good closeups, demonstrating how to properly clean a chainsaw. Your customers in eastern Ontario don't know how lucky they are to have a dealer of your quality. Please consider moving to South Carolina.
Many times gas cans get left out in rain and water gets in spout then into saws . I dump out all saws after every job and make sure fuel cans are spotless no water or dirt. But employees helpers etc often just don't care . Excellent channel 👍
Hey Larry, I'll give you a tip. If you haven't taken a saw apart much before, take pictures as you go so you know how things go back together. I've learned that over the years. Also, sometimes you can get the schematics from your local Stihl dealer if they want to be nice. Have fun!
I'd like to see this saw if he said he didn't take care of it. Would it be in worse shape? Keep it clean people! Unless money just grows on trees! Great job, Erica!
Another great save! I am sure 5 years ago it was taken care of well and as the novelty wears off, so does maintenance/cleaning. In the end, it‘s just a chainsaw and we are all still alive to enjoy your videos.👍
I'll add a tip here, don't get into the habit of having people asking you for favors like that. I worked for a shop whose manager would routinely ask for that. It came to a head when I promised a customer his equipment would be done that morning. Here comes the manager with a 'buddy' request that upset everything. When the customer came in to pick his stuff up, he was told it wasn't done & I told him why. He confronted the manager & that ended that. The saw repair was on us & I just about got fired. The customer took the whole thing to the owners & that manager was gone. As far as I was concerned he'd done it to himself.
I learn a lot from your videos. Our old MS251 was having issues staying running and bogging down. I thought it just needed a little adjustment on the low side of the carb since that's what fixed the trimmer when it was bogging down. Well the sound wouldn't change as I adjusted it. Should have been my 1st clue and it probably was the problem. I rebuilt the carb and that didn't help. Got a pressure/vac tester (and the stihl tools that you use to make my live easier) and found out I had a vac leak on the flywheel side oil seal. After ruining 2 seals trying to press them in without the tool I took the engine pan off. Either it was already broke or I broke the metal race between the oil seal and the bearing. Got lucky and found a take off cylinder with piston and engine pan off a never sold/never ran 251. While waiting for that to arrive I tore the saw into a zillion pieces and cleaned everything with a hot water and degreaser. Got everything in and put the motor together and had a leak on the oil seal. Guess I knicked the inner ring putting it on. Took it back apart and fixed that and it passed pressure/vac test. Put it ALL back together and it wanted to start but it just wouldn't run. Decided to just get a OEM carb and it tried to run after putting that on. Read the manual a little further and got the basic settings done but it just didn't wanna run. Woke up this morning and decided to go crank the LA a ton counterclockwise with the idea of keeping doing that till it ran then adjust back so the chain didn't turn. Lucky for me it cranked and ran good with just the 1st adjustment. IT'S ALIVE!!!! IT'S ALIVE!!!!!!!! Adjusted it down to where the chain stops. Started to tune the carb by ear and I could actually hear it get better then worse so I found the sweet spot and it runs good. Haven't decided if Im gonna get a GOOD tactometer or take it to a shop and let them tune it. I DON'T want to ruin it now that I got it all back together. All that being said I probably have more than the cost of a new 251 in parts and tools but this was Dad's saw and he's no longer with us so I wanted to get it running and keep it running. The real kicker is when it wouldn't run I went and bought a new 261C. Your channel has been a godsend for me over the last month or so.
Wow. That is a lot of dirt and water in a professional grade saw that has to be reliable. So sad. That saw is a beast! LOL, the Chainsaw Adoption Application!!! I have a 261 and love it. I've had it for 8 years and keep it clean and well maintained with clean fuel. I use Amsoil 2-cycle oil for my mix. I am a homeowner and use it to trim branches and cut down a few trees. I just wanted a really good saw and this is a really reliable chainsaw. It is quite the beast too. John from MI
Hey Erica, Chris here and I did have a SE course in Vo-Tech, so I do have mechanical knowledge on how small engines work but they can be very hard to work on if you don't understand the full concepts. I don't know which is harder, 2 or 4 cycles are hard to work on especially if they have OHVs.
Good morning Ericka, Thank you for the video. I am again reminded of the importance of routine cleaning and care. I recognize I do not care for our saws as well as i should. They have done very well for our usage and thankful to have them available for use. Now to step up our care to help them last longer.
Well, it's a Stihl. They lost my custom many years ago because they cost too much to own given that when they go wrong they keep going wrong which just gets really expensive. By comparison my experience with Husqvana saws is that they fix easy and keep going. My 40 is 37 years old and still in regular use.
Here, it‘s not only cost but to find someone that has knowledge of what they sell at the store. Look up some German UA-cam videos to see what a lot of people there are using cutting wood!
Really love your passion, and empathy for these amazing saws. Your obvious disappointment and slight irritability at finding it in this state is obvious the way you talk. Love it. Thanks Erica for an amazing channel full of interesting and very informative content.
So, the owner said he clean it.... sure... This guy should NOT own a saw that retails north of 15 hundred "under his care". Hope you charged him enough to cover his carelessness and urgency! Good video and explanations!
@@IsaiahRoe-n6y I sent Stihl my resume for a machinist job or supervisor. Thank you so much for posting this excellent video. You surely take good care of your customers! You mentioned this saw is used by a tree service. I live in a really urban area close to Washington, D.C., and all the tree service trucks I see seem to have saws that are mounted on long wands. I'm not sure what they power the cutting blades with. I am also not sure what they use for removing large trees. I just can't remember seeing tree service people with chainsaws...but then....I have never watched a crew at work for longer than 5 or 10 minutes.
I'm going to invent a chainsaw that runs on water. It will revolutionize the industry. Then you will get saws in for service and they won't run right because there is gasoline in the water tank! I enjoy your channel. You really care for your saws. Sometimes more than the owners do! 😄
If you use pump gas with like 10% alcohol in it (almost all pump gas), then it already runs on a bit of water. :) Alky attracts water right from the air. For your engine, develop a tiny nuclear reactor to heat up the water, and run it on steam. :)
It’s a good idea to just dump the fuel out about once a month and refill with fresh clean fuel. Also, check to make sure the fuel in the gas can is clean as well and has no water in it. Excellent video as always!
My MS 462 is much better loved, thanks for showing the recalibration procedure. They are light saw, I have changed my inner chain guide plate to the thicker version due to ware. Keep up the good videos and well done with all your new subscribers.
Fuel is a funny topic. Locally here, a guy bought bad fuel. Ran a saw, acted up. Thought he needed it to go to the shop. So he grabbed a second saw, same thing. They worked fine before, until he bought fresh fuel that wasn’t fresh. Crap fuel. Personally I use ethanol free fuel. Fuel in small engines must be optimal, especially 2 stroke. I wonder if the fuel stations are changing out their filters like they should?
I had a tree service take a big tree down at my house, the used a Stihl 301, 500i and 661. They beat the heck out of the saws and the chains were dull. I thought they would stop and change out the chains or file them, but no luck. It was full steam ahead.
@@marriedwithsmallengines I'm certainly in no position to critic them, that's for sure. I should follow my kindergarten teachers advice. If you have nothing good to say, don't say it. Lol.
Erica- for around eight years a guy parked his full truck at our shop. When he changed products it was necessary the trailer was “stripped “ of the remaining product. I volunteered to provide containers to facilitate this process 😂. You would never believe the amount of garbage that is in bulk fuels! Water is almost always there from tanks heating up in the day and atmosphere entering in the evening. The rest of the contaminants are from the tanks that store the fuel. I Always filter the fuel that goes into my Radio Control airplane engines, which are basically chainsaw singles and twins without the recoil start and a prop hub where the clutch would be. Twenty three years and counting, I have seen very similar conditions in tanks that weren’t fanatically maintained. Fuel lines annually is suggested (tygon only) and what we call clunks you call filters. The only way to prevent engine issues on multiple thousand dollar airplanes. Just my personal observation 😊
Great job you are one of the best saw techs I have seen. Where did you get your training? Does Stihl offer classes? Or did you have someone teach you on the job?
G’day Erica really like your channel manly because of how you always show a bit of where you live and the days work that you explain what they have come in for. I can’t get over how this saw which is a professional one has been treated I really get annoyed when machinery isn’t looked after especially when you income is dependent on it I suppose at my age 67 I’m just getting more annoyed than if I was young. I know that you do a great job and your business must do well anyway I’ll get off this now just to say thank you for filming all of it and explaining very clearly on all your the saws that you get in kind regards John Tasmania Australia
Your videos are always a good watch. I have a MS-250 & 034 both were brand new when I purchased them I also have an 046 & 076 super saw that I purchased used. All of them run good, but I am wondering about getting parts in future if needed. Just use them for my own firewood, They will probaly out last me. Thanks for the video, looks like you have purchased some new diagnostic tools for repairs.
Good morning Erica. Greetings from the south shore of Georgian Bay. Watching you expertly work on saws is great "morning coffee" entertainment. Please don't fall into the trap of repeating yourself to much. If I miss a critical point I will go back and rewatch the part I missed. I just love your part of Ontario, Highway 7 corridor north of "Bellvagas". Keep up the great work.
naw, she wasn't repeating. She was BLOWING RED HOT STEAM in quiet Canadian fashion. P*sssed totally. Wish there was a video of customer picking up the saw.
Hi Chuck, check out my MS261 video from last week - we discuss fuel solenoids - there are green, black and white ones. That was another great video! Thank you SO Much!
It felt like Christmas morning when I saw you posted another new video. I don’t have any kind words for the owner of that saw so I’ll keep them to myself. Thanks for bringing us along on this adventure!
I'm in SW Missouri, the show-me-state, and you've shown me I need to make or buy a carburetor stand! Good video! Never worked on a mtronic saw, not many around here. Mostly the 0 series older saws.
Thank u,Erica. Not sure about the owner of a beautiful saw, that requires it to make a living.I see guys driving around with fuel cans spouts on, open to the great outdoors.Just asking for trouble by their own making.
So excellent work again ! My first experience with a eletronic equipped saw. Makes me wondering about my own saw , a Husqvarna 545with autotune.... how it works and how to brake in that autotune correct. For note , saw runs as it should but of course interested how this autotune tunes it selfs .
Hi Erica, great informative videos. Will you be doing a deeper repair? Like a pit & piston replacement or main bearings and seals in a Stihl? Thanks Chris in the UK
I LOVE the wood stove!! the perfect size. What brand is it? That is the worst fuel you've shown in a while. I was so caught up in watching you take apart and reassemble this, it was over in a flash. I love learning the things about preventing trouble so I don't have repair issues. I always enjoy watching your disassembly and reassembly techniques of a delicate parts that can be difficult to deal with, and added to that they can be fragile and brittle from age and from other circumstances. Thanks for the Great Video.
For a professional he doesn’t look after his equipment to well! Maybe you need to start up a Saturday school for chainsaw owners for maintenance classes! 🤔😊🇦🇺🍺🍺
Does rhat mtronic diagnostic software show live data while the engine is running? Maybe data pids on engine rpm, mixture solenoid duty cycle, ect? Would be interesting to see good data pids, so when you get a bad running saw you can deduce what could be going on watching live data. I noticed when you connected your diagnostic cable to it, two cables connected inline with the spark plug cable. My guess is the diagnostic software is able to see secondary ignition info such as firing line KV, spark line duration, ect ? Watching ignition waveforms can tell you a lot about what is going on in the combustion chamber.
I have no Mtronic experience. Can you install a fuel solenoid without having to connect the saw to the computer afterwards? Also, how does one know which Mtronic version the saw has?
Hi Scott! In Canada, the sticker label on the rear handle tells me what version it is. I'm not sure if the US does the same. You don't have to connect afterwards, just install the new solenoid, calibrate and go! Email me if you have any questions about it. AND, watch for my next vid! It's right up your alley , and your name may get dropped a couple times Lol
Not sure! Bought the saw new in 2022 if that helps! Or is there a way for me to tell! The stihl shop recommended that they change the the filter and soloid not having any issues just trying to protect the saw! It’s my wife’s saw!
Enjoyed this one. Haven't watched anyone work on a 462 before. I picked up a 462, used, last week. I will definitely do the mtronic calibration thing. My first gripe is, and I'm sure you noticed it. Saw does not balance well. Front heavy, looks like you had a 24" bar, I've got a 28" light bar hanging on it. Always setting in the dirt. 🤬 As you said, Stihl is cutting weight off their saws, at what costs?
Hopefully it was manufactured after 2021. They did a major change to the engine because of failures and parts for the newer will not interchange with the older and vice versa. FYI
When you have this kind of a high tech carb with a solenoid valve in it, do you still have the standard three adjustments, or does the electronics and the solenoid valve take care of everything?
@@marriedwithsmallengines Does that mean that since the electronics controls the fuel, there should, in principle, be no chance that the saw idles too slow or too fast, or too lean or too rich? Kind of like in modern cars, where the ecu takes care of all of that, with no way to adjust.
As difficult as it is to try and understand why tools of any sort are not taken care of one has to console themselves that if everyone had respect for stuff there wouldn’t be a need for repair shops!
You really need to put the date somewhere on the air filter and a mark on the fuel filter. That way when people come in telling you they've taken care of it you could check quickly if they have even done the bare minimum
Hi from Norway! You asked if anyone owns a 462... Well, I dont, but I have a MS 500i and a MS 661. I am looking for a 261 as well, but it is hard to find good offers on them with heated handles.
I have been watching your videos for a few days now and every time I see you break the bar nuts loose I ask why are you doing it that way? You always set the saw down and pull up on the nut tool. What I do is put the nut wrench on so I can push down on it instead of pulling up. Other than that, id lived within 75 miles or so from you, you would be the goto person for all my 2 cycle work...good job girl!!!

Wow...that fuel. It says a lot about the owner.
The owner is a good man. I just have to razz him sometimes! (it's all in good fun!)
We attend yearly Stihl training, but most of the training came from experience and making mistakes.
Thanks for your work,Erica.👍
My pleasure!
Nice work Erica 😊
How about a video highlighting all the neat speciality tools you use?
There is a tool video in the works!
Love The Marathon Video Run 😀😊👍🏼🥵👍🏼 Can’t Wait Till The TS-360 is On The Bench 😇😇😇
Thank you! If my memory serves me correctly, you are a Stihl tech in Florida?
@ Yes I Am Your Memory Is Excellent and TS- CutQuik’s are My Favorite Saws Too Repair and Rebuild 😇😊
Does white carb solenoid get replaced on all saws with a green one?
Hi Chuck, check out my MS261 video from last week - we discuss fuel solenoids - there are green, black and white ones. That was another great video! Thank you SO Much!
Well done to you…🥰🥰🥰 that lad needs to look what he’s doing??? God knows how he is in the woods??😆😆👍🤘
It felt like Christmas morning when I saw you posted another new video. I don’t have any kind words for the owner of that saw so I’ll keep them to myself. Thanks for bringing us along on this adventure!
I love that! Every day is like Christmas morning here. You never know what's inside the next chainsaw fuel tank!
I think you found bar oil in a fuel tank before.
I'm in SW Missouri, the show-me-state, and you've shown me I need to make or buy a carburetor stand! Good video! Never worked on a mtronic saw, not many around here. Mostly the 0 series older saws.
The greasy shop rag sells carb stands! They are fantastic!
@marriedwithsmallengines lol guess I'll be in contact with him! Thanks.
Powering them repairs out and Plenty more in the queue 😊
Thank u,Erica. Not sure about the owner of a beautiful saw, that requires it to make a living.I see guys driving around with fuel cans spouts on, open to the great outdoors.Just asking for trouble by their own making.
Good Evening , from Ireland 😊. Was cutting logs with my Husqy, earlier,
Perfect time to watch your super Video.
Hope you enjoyed it!
Watching now 😅, It's nice looking Pro Saw.
Nice work🔥👍😁
Thanks 🔥
Love the adoption bit...LMAO Great sense of caring should go into ownership of these fine power saws...
Nice job Erica
Awesome job Erica ! I knew you would get it rocking 👍🏼
Also loved the fire at the beginning of the video 😊
When I was a young one they described the condition of the saw as “ Rode hard and put away wet” 😮
Nice. Thanks Erica 🙏
The woodstove is a "Pacfic Energy", built in BC, Canada (I think)
The 462 seems much easier to work on than the 362.
Might have to switch up my plans on a project saw 😅
Do you have to do anything with laptop after solenoid installed, recalibrate something ?
That bar is been ran way hot..
Also its very sad what stihl has or is doing by discontinuing the 400c what a shame on them
Good morning Erica when charging the fuel filter and fuel soliond on a 261c does the saw need to be recalibrated?
Thanks
There is a recommended recalibration to be done. What version Mtronic is your saw?
As you said, Stihl is cutting weight off their saws, at what costs?
Hopefully it was manufactured after 2021. They did a major change to the engine because of failures and parts for the newer will not interchange with the older and vice versa. FYI
When you have this kind of a high tech carb with a solenoid valve in it, do you still have the standard three adjustments, or does the electronics and the solenoid valve take care of everything?
No Carb adjustments on these, the fuel solenoid does the work.
@@marriedwithsmallengines Does that mean that since the electronics controls the fuel, there should, in principle, be no chance that the saw idles too slow or too fast, or too lean or too rich? Kind of like in modern cars, where the ecu takes care of all of that, with no way to adjust.
Great video as always - the HD2 filter system is the best 👍👍
The 462c that was given for crushing my 026 looks the same as that 1, never taken care of, everything original, makes the oldman pissed
As difficult as it is to try and understand why tools of any sort are not taken care of one has to console themselves that if everyone had respect for stuff there wouldn’t be a need for repair shops!
Your are so right.
Mustbe pretty cold there in canada mrs. Erica its still in the mid 80's here in southern alabama
The night's are getting cold..this morning we woke up to a heavy frost and frozen water buckets at the chicken coop. Winter is upon us.....
@marriedwithsmallengines yes mam it is and also another great vieo i love your channel
@@danielpadgett2831 Thank you so much! I see your name here all the time in the comments and I DO notice it and appreciate it!
Hopefully he gets the rackers down so he can have it bite again. Lots of fine saw dust in that engine cover
Wait...missing bar nut on that one saw, so someone brings it in for repair? Wild haha.
