Thank you for stopping in and watching my video on this Stihl MS261 Chainsaw! I am so happy that you are here! I am in the shop today repairing more saws and making more videos! Coming up...MS 461, MS 170, a couple MS 271's and a MS 260 that has been to other shops and is now here for answers! I hope you all enjoy! Please Subscribe!
Love your videos Erica. Keep up the good work. No need to change anything. I have a 261 and a 261c. They are excellent all-purpose saws. Very sturdy, dependable and well made. Not too heavy but lots of power.
Erica, thank you for the videos. I like them very much for entertainment and learning value. I love your detail and manner of presentation. A viewer from N. C., USA.
I am long time saw user and enjoy seeing the new tech plus the amazing things people do to chainsaws. Be nice if to do a mini series on basic saw maintence and how to tune a chain. You need a recliner for down times in the shop.
I absolutely love your videos. It helps me out tremendously. One thing to note on these 261C's, is the worm drive constantly has problems. Either the metal breaks or it gets worn. I am constantly checking and replacing them. This saw is the favorite in our crew. Thank you for the awesome videos!
That's a top of the line medium size saw, probably the best Stihl have made. But my 50cc is a Husqvarna 545, mostly because I had a great deal on that saw so it would have been stupid to pay nearly twice the money for a MS-261. Other saws I have is Echo CS-2511WES, Stihl MS-212, MS-362 and MS-661. And I love them all. 😁😁 Love your videos, it is so satisfying to watch a professional mechanic repair chainsaws. If I lived in Ontario I would definitely let your company maintain my chainsaws. 😀🇸🇪
Love your videos! The 261c is my favorite saw of all time! I’ll be checking to see which filter I have and upgrade if necessary. Thanks for all the good content! Cheers!!
Being the owner of a Stihl 261c...I love it when I see someone working on one...gives me good material to learn from when I see my specific saw being troubleshooted/dissected and brought back to life! Thanks for this video! Super duper informative! Love your channel! I have a 20" bar on my saw...been thinking about getting a 16" as a back up bar or when I don't need that extra length.
@@marriedwithsmallengines You're most welcome! Maybe in the future do a video montage of cleaning some dirty saws! That 261c you just did was really chunky and I wish I could have seen you melt that stuff away!
Thanks for another great video. You need a cleaning station closer to the bench to cut down on the walking to the door each time or a 4 wheeled push cart so you could place all the components on it and push them all over the door at the same time to save on the number of steps.😆
It's a good thing you were removing the solenoid because my hands shake something fierce. I changed out the bulb for my blower and luckily I didn't drop the little screws. I cheated by using a stick magnet to keep from dropping them down inside.
Second comment today! Yes please keep doing the videos! I also have a MS261C I’m sure everyone who watches your videos feels the same way!! Thank you again from Tucson Arizona
Excellent information. Your articulate way of explaining and camera angles are great for us meat heads 😂. Seeing the filth packed has inspired me to go clean up my saws. I really enjoy your vids. Keep em coming.
Hello from Tucson Arizona did I miss your video on the 028 not running good? Last time I asked I thought you mentioned it was going to be on your bench last week! Just wondering! I live watching your videos! Your ability to keep your audience involved is amazing! Thank you
I enjoy your channel, interesting, fun and entertaining. Love the beautiful background outside. Keep up the great video presentation as you do a great job.
I have been a Stihl owner since the 1970s. My first, I can't remeber the model, I bought 2nd hand with a ~30" bar, a BEAST of a saw. My second was an 011AV made in Virginia, a light saw for my elderly dad to use, that I used just a few days ago. My third was a MS170, I gave to my daughter last month, when her trees fell in a storm. I have learned a lot from you. I hope you keep on making videos. Thank YOU! PS: I've had oiling issues with the 011 AV. I can't find OEM parts locally, only china made substitutes. Any advice?
Another great repair. None of the saws that I have are M-Tronic, but it's interesting to learn about them. Question: You kinda left us hanging on the fuel solenoids, other than the different colors- Did you ever find out what the differences are, between the white/black/green ones? Thanks!
Your channel is incredible and very informative . Your knowledge and workmanship is spot on. On my first visit I subscribed immediately, and I rarely subscribe to channels. You guys make me proud to be from Ontario as well ! Excellent work and so informative 👍🏼 You have a great thing going, keep it up 👌
Learning never exhausts the mind. Thanks for the video Erica. P.S.I learned long ago, never to wrestle with a pig. You get dirty, and besides, the pig likes it.
I enjoy watching your videos You're pretty firm at everything you do I tried to watch Them all if I got the time to do it So again enjoy your video all of the videos And I am a regular subscriber Stay safemy friend and have a good day
In the 80's - early 90's vehicles had computer controlled carbs with electronic metering solenoid valves. The ECU was also able to adjust ignition timing and fuel mixture based on varous sensor inputs. The emission systems that were added made them complex though. It's interesting to see a basic system without all the emissions stuff added on chain saws. I guess the next evolution for gas saws is fuel injection if battery power doesn't make them obsolete.......oh wait....MS500i.
Thx for the cleaning and fuel tips. Excellent tutorial AGAIN Erica ! Butt why the "light" bar for a smaller 16" bar ? Worth the savings in weight ? Great job !
"They're not in a hurry. They just want a video made of the repair". I wonder if it will ever be common practice to provide video footage of repairs? I bet a lot of people would love to see what actually happens at a car dealership when service is being performed.
That was cool. I have MS230 which is 19yo and MS311 bought two years ago. I wonder does it exist to buy side tensioner for MS230? If it does I'd love to request it at my local Stihl dealer. Cheers from Croatia!!
Mindless note on the new Torx drivers - I'd almost guarantee that those are being provided by Wera, for whatever that's worth. The handle shape is unique and I doubt Stihl is getting these drivers from some Chinese clone manufacturing operations.
Oh. I have a Question😁 When not using a chainsaw is it good to empty the fuel tank and then run it until dry? Or leave fuel in it with fuel stabilizer? Since I now only use the ms170 couple times a year at the cabin. Thanks in advance
I enjoy your videos, including this one, but this one is somewhat provocative (not in a bad way). I don't recall seeing any advice about changing the fuel solenoid. If not updating the solenoid can result in a lean condition that would be important to know, since lean running can cause inadequate lubrication and accelerated wear -- correct?
@@marriedwithsmallengines thanks, the HT131 that came across my bench had apparently been to the local Stihl dealer where it was purchased with disengagement at the saw gear drive. The owner was told it needed a new complete new extendable end, minus the gear/saw head, for the tube it was close to 500 dollars US. It was taken back home as that was a lot of money for something that was just past warranty. The owner continued to use but did not extend it as they had another that did function so the two units worked for low and higher trimming. The owner brought it to me to see what I thought. I had never been into one before. I downloaded the Stihl parts PDF and looked at each component as per the parts PDF. I found nothing that was not in the sequential order as the parts shown. After a few times of looking at it, the problem became apparent. At the connection of the fixed and extendable is the plastic bearing C clip assembly. The PDF has the C clip on the incorrect end/side of the fixed bearing hub. I was hesitant to alter what should have been factory assembled. The owner stated that only the Stihl shop had ever touched it. I got hold of his other HT131 and opened it up to find the C clip was on the outboard end of the hub, opposite of the other unit, which is why it can not fall from its position and maintain engagement at any length of extension. Now my question became why did it function at extensions for quite some time? Maybe the tension of the bearing sleeve and engagement with the gear head was holding the drive tube in position until wear out allowed it to move. I repositioned the C clip into the outboard side and all has been good since. I have looked at the PDF multiple times and it still shows the C clip installed on the incorrect side of the hub. The other issue is a stihl dealer was not going to repair it just replace something that did not need replaced just fixed.
as dirty as some of these saws are , i wonder if they are ripping wood with the wrong chain on them ( 30 degree vs 10 degree ) , that would account for all the small dust
Man...I really wish you'd show the cleaning process... Some of us love to just watch that caked on tree biscuit batter get melted and blasted away from the saw...

Denatured alcohol works good as a evaporated cleaner, but so does 85 ethanol gasoline.
The fuel selinoid looks similar to a fuel injector in automotive use

Is this the same on the newer 261c's?
You said running to rich, but earlier was lean on high side of jetting. Would it be to rich in the mix ratio?
Oh. I have a Question😁
When not using a chainsaw is it good to empty the fuel tank and then run it until dry?
Or leave fuel in it with fuel stabilizer?
Since I now only use the ms170 couple times a year at the cabin.

What is the model and info on the extendable pole saw? Had a 131 that had disengagement issues that the fix was really bizarre!
