  • Adding to their extensive drill and driver lineup, ‪@dewalttv‬ released the new DCD805 XR 20V MAX Hammer Drill Driver that has 40% more power than the previous DCD791 and it's 1/2" shorter than the DCD997. We mated our DCD805 with the PowerStack battery and it was nothing short of impressive. The two-speed gearbox delivers 0-650 RPM is Low and 0-2,000 RPM in High via the variable speed trigger. You get a 17-position clutch, 15 of which are for driving (screws), another position for drilling, and yet another for hammer drilling at 0-34,000 BPM. We even put in a 2-9/16 Auger bit and the DCD805 chewed right through the 2x4. These should start hitting the shelves in April 2022. 3-year limited warranty. Price will be added soon.

    Dewalt is dropping some quality stuff these days. I’ll stick with Milwaukee as my go to but I’ve been adding more black and yellow to my collection lately. Good morning from mid Tn.
    I am very impressed with the light. Nothing worse than working in a craw space and having to rely on your auxiliary light. Have a decent light on the drill motor comes in very handy. Good move on their part making it adjustable, bright and a long stay on time.
    Honestly my issue isn't with the rainbow of tools available. It's the cost of the dang batteries. They offer these little 2.0ma with the kits but if I'm under the house or in the attic I need a battery that will last.

    Great review!! I’ve been wanting to see this in action. Driver and hammer, NICE!!! I’m interested in this drill, it comes in combo kit with the 850. IMO that’s prob the best kit for me considering I’m not looking to break loose 400+ pounds or break off screw heads. I’ve seen the release of the 840 & 845. I think the 850 is more then enough power then I need. But I do want power when it’s needed. I believe You’ve helped me make my decision on what kit to buy. Unless you have anything negative to say about the 850 ?? Like the 840 & 845 came out to replace it because of some kind of issues ?

    Interesting review, DeWalt look as though they've really found some advances in brushless motor power to size/weight ratio.
    Can you tell us whether the chuck suffers the concentricity issues that were a bane of the 790/791/795/796 series? Also when you were making the length comparison, it would have been more representative to use the 996 or 999 instead of the (drill/driver)991- as they're hammer drills and are about 1/2" longer as a result.

    The biggest disadvantage of the 805 (or advantage to the XR 991) is that you cannot attach a side handle which to me is essential for using the hammer function for stability and for saving your wrist if you get kickbacks. For me I want a hammerdrill to use with a Power Planter auger (for digging holes in hard clay-pack soil) and I would not consider the 805 or any hammerdrill where you could not attach a side handle!

    • @BruceWayne-xu5bj

      These are compact drills. You don’t want to be doing and serious hammering in masonry with it. You want a handle, go up to the dewalt 998/999.
      Doing actual masonry? Actual masonry meaning, large anchors, redheads, rough in through block wall etc. Use a rotary hammer as the good lord intended.

    • @kengoldenbergmediasegments5896
      @kengoldenbergmediasegments5896 Рік тому

      @@BruceWayne-xu5bj While I see your point, a handle is always good to have. I mainly want that using a Power Planter (digging holes in soil for plants, etc.) and here is the thoughts of Shop Tools Reviews (and other sites I have seen):
      “This DeWalt DCD805 Hammer Drill Driver chewed through lumber with ease. We used a 7/8″ auger, 1-1/2″ spade bit, and even the 2-9/16″ auger bit. Setting the clutch to Hammer mode, we also drilled through steel plate, a wood 2×4, and a cinder block. The DCD805 and its brother the DCD800 (non-hammer) are supposed to hit the shelves in April 2022. You get a 3-year limited warranty, but price is still undetermined at this time.”
      So yes, you can certainly use the 805 for tougher tasks - if only it had a handle!

    • @BruceWayne-xu5bj
      @BruceWayne-xu5bj Рік тому +1

      Right. But like I’m saying, they have (make) handled drills that are made for those task in which a handle may be required, while THIS one is simply a mid tier compact drill. Albeit well performing. Yes, it has power, but it’s still just a compact drill.
      I could see getting away with drilling stucco while installing a chimney cricket or attaching a sub panel box type thing. I wouldn’t be concerned with a handle for that. It’s not a replacement for those other models.
      For a auger, again the 999 is the drill for the task. Not just for the handle but for the fact that it has a lower gear ratio in a 3 speed mode for a bit that big. I’ve done it. I have a 3 1/2 in diameter auger (18 inch.) Even, then if you hit rock hard enough, it’s fly out of your hands.
      A flexvolt stud and joist drill works too if you can hold on to it.

      @@BruceWayne-xu5bj Want to know the strangest thing about your comment? Just today I was over a Lowe’s seeing what DeWalt hammer drills they had! And considering I posted my original comment about 4 months ago kind of a weird coincidence you posted yours today!
      For me earlier in last year I got the special deal where I got the 850 impact drive with two Powerstack batteries and with that you got a free tool (I got a circ saw). For years I got by using a Black and Decker Matrix system where you can change out the tool heads (drill, impact, multi-tool, etc.) you would be amazed how many home projects I did with that kit, I really pushed it. But the time came that the batteries began to were out, etc. and I wanted to move to something better. For nearly a year I watched YT videos, reviews on all the brands. I chose DeWalt because it is available at both Lowe’s and HD (unlike Milwaukee, Ryobi, Kobalt). as well as Amazon and so many other places.
      I want a hammer drill (more correctly a combo drill) less for the “hammer” part and more for the drill/driver and a 1/2” chuck so I can use my DeWalt hole saw kit. But I will certainly use the hammer drill setting often enough to have it, and why not get one that can use a handle for when I may need that as well.
      With my Powerstack batteries I don’t need or want to get a FlexVolt (HD) or Power Detect (Lowe’s) or need the wifi thing (yes, I may opt for a kit deal where I can get an XR 5aph battery) Also the 998/997 I believe are fairly old designs - right? And they have gone up in price to about $240 for the tool only - Wow!
      I have heard they are suppose to come out with a new hammer drill to replace the 99x series, so I may wait for that.

      Do the manufactures mention this in the instruction manual? I've seen people say it online but I haven't seen it on my owner manuals.

      Neither does Makita manual's for there drills and by the way I've never encountered this problem with my Makita drills. My understanding is that if you turn it back a little you unlock the ratchet tightening feature.

    I guess they are going to
    Abandon the 12v xtreme too bad , more than any homeowner needs . The impact will easily zing off rusted lug nuts .

    Is it dcd805 or dcd805B?

    • @Shoptoolreviews

      DCD805 and the DCD805B is the same tool. The "B" just states that you're buying the tool "bare" with no battery or charger. If you bought a kit with 2 batteries, it may be the DCD805P2 or something like that. Thanks for watching.

    The 805 is comparable to the old 996. It has 850w power and 90 Nm torque, and still only 2000 rpm.
    The old 796 is 420w with 70Nm torque (on low speed)…So no comparison. Now the kicker….You can get the old 796 for about 70 bucks bare tool…the new 805 is well over 200 bucks bare tool. All you are really getting for three times the price is 30% more twisting power…and if that’s really what you need, just get an impact driver…the 887 impact can be yours for 65 bucks bare tool now!
    The tool upgrade hype is now kinda like mobile phones…get this year’s must have model for a small fortune because…reasons!
    On balance….the 805 IS functionally better and physically smaller, it is just for you to decide if the huge outlay is worth it TO YOU for any modest increase over the previous king 996. Personally, I’d want a bigger jump in capability for that much money….
    (FWIW..I have the smaller 796 and an 887…which together can cope with just about anything outside of shipbuilding😂 and together with a 5ahr batt and charger sets you back about two hundred bucks all in.)
