- DEWALT replaced the DCD791 & DCD796 with new 20V XR Brushless 1/2-in. Drill/Driver DCD800 and 20V XR Brushless 1/2-in. Hammer Drill/Driver DCD805. Each drill will provide users with up to 40% more power in a package that is about a 1/2" shorter.
The DCD800 and DCD805 have a variable trigger and two-speed gearbox with a high bit retention with a 1/2-in. metal ratcheting chuck. The DCD805 quickly drills into masonry material with up to 34,000 bpm through an integrated hammer mode function.
Each drill features an adjustable 3-Position, 3 Mode LED light producing up to 70 Lumens. The tools also accept the Tool Connect chip (DCE042, sold separately) that syncs with the Tool Connect Site Manager app for seamless worksite asset management.

Drill- Packedge in typical box, came with a tool bag (added bonus), two batteries, one charger, drill, and driver. Two words "plenty of Torque" ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxW1vOBRCMrgTCDEijzpVzDWsgI-Jm2iQv well I guess that's three. Nice upgrade from current setup. Has belt clips, I don't think I will be using those. Driver and drill were bigger than what I expected but it is an upgrade from the current setup. For the money I would say that this is a great setup for Professionals and DIY/Weekend warriors.
I have had this new drill for awhile now and it is very powerful.
This is perfect my 796 has been a beast however it’s getting long in the tooth perfect timing for me

Pleased to see more compact yet powerful drills come out which work well with power stack. I’d much rather see this innovation rather than an endless drive towards hugely powerful drills with car batteries attached to them. This is more relevant so thanks for taking me through them.

I like the dcd800. Decent power in a small package. You don't need 1,100, 1,200 or 1,400 in. lbs of torque in a drill all the time. 800 - 900 in. lbs of torque in a drill will suffice for 90% of your drilling needs.

I found DeWalt dcd800 and 805 manual and it's torque is listed as 90nm (hard) 27nm (soft) which is 796 in lbs and 239 in lbs. That is very good for a drill that size.
Great channel, good test. As a framer we have a bunch of drills and a few dcd791 and 796 ..definitely not worth the upgrade to the newer ones…..the 791 is for up to 1” really . Over that size the 996 is what to use .
And we don’t use spade bits over an inch . We go to forstner bits ..
DeWalt has really been Upgrading their Power Game lately , have you seen their New Mid-Torque Impact Wrench , it's just Awesome .....👍🖖

I have the 805 and my friend has the 796. Huge power difference. 796 is allot stronger especially if your going to be using hole saw bits.

I use the atomic drill everyday a great little drill. I also have the dcd996 great for the heavy jobs. But the dcd800 xr would be great for both. Sucks it's not available in canada yet.

There’s a new one coming out that is supposed to be ridiculously powerful for a relatively compact drill.

@@nalley6815 I don’t know, and I can’t even remember what channel was showing it. The video creator didn’t know the model number, either, so I can’t even tell you what to google.
I can only say that I didn’t have a great experience with the 800. I think the drills with the full size bodies perform more consistently than the really compact models.
For example, my DCD777 outperforms the DCD708 atomic, despite having the same specs.

@@nalley6815 Everyone is different. Tinker with Tools loves the 800. Maybe I got a weak one, or I was just expecting too much from it.
Mine cut out and got hot when I tried to replicate one of the tests that he did on his channel, though.
Maybe I just had bad luck, but I think a bigger body allows for a bigger fan, and better heat dispersion.
I was looking at the 791, which is rated slightly less powerful than the 800, but has a bigger body.
I have also been considering the 998 or 999 because I don’t think I would ever be disappointed by the performance.

Hi. I have a dcd791 too, new. The reverse/forward button is very loose/sloppy. Did yours have the same issue, or no? Does it matter? How can I repair it? Thanks.
Question how many ipm for the 800 drill/driver , this was one of the stats i didnt hear, i see the 805 hammer has like 34 000bpm ibelieve, i cant seem to this spec anywhere, thanks in advance

I’ve noticed I’ve had issues with my Dewalt drills working with spade bits drilling for Romex cable installation but with my Ryobi drills and a spade bit they bust on thru like nobody’s business. The black & yellow isn’t always great.

Can someone please talk about how much better the potentiometer in the trigger of the dewalt is compared to Milwaukee?? I’m so tired of seeing Milwaukee being treated like it’s the best when their trigger feels like it has 4 speeds.

It’s not bogging at the end of the hole you just don’t have the screw driving it anymore you need to push harder at the end
DCD800 looks like a good step up in performance, but I normally run my drill with small batteries for use around the house so maybe less power advantage for me. I haven't decided if shorter of slimmer is more advantageous but I've noticed that the dcd800 is available for similar price to the dcd791.

The dcd800 is $189 at Lowe’s with a 1.7 amp power stack battery, a standard 1.7 amp battery, a charger and a bag.
It’s the same price at Home Depot, but the Home Depot version comes with a 5 amp battery instead of the power stack.
@@DiligentDave1966 I got a DCD800 with 5AH battery as a late Christmas present, I can't wait to use it on a fence repair project around our house.
@@billj5645 From what I’ve heard, the dcd800 performs about the same with the 5 amp battery as it does with the 1.7 power stack battery.
The 5 amp is heavier than the power stack, but gives the drill longer run time, so it’s a matter of personal preference.

My 791 has taken a beating over the years and still works good. The only problem I have with it is that the chuck is not very straight, and that seems to be a common issue. There is a lot of runout. Hopefully this new model will be just as rugged but with a better chuck.
Had the same trouble with a 785 and two 796 in a row. Makes driving screws in difficult to say the least. Seriously considering going Milwaukee now.

@@mikeike7114 I haven't had any problem with the forward/reverse selector. The model I have was likely manufactured years before yours so it may be a bit different. If I buy a new drill it will probably be the new 800 model
The real question is will DeWalt be assembling these in the USA with global materials like the 791 and 796 are, or are they going to be made elsewhere?

Anyone else find the 800 much higher pitched noise wise?
Just brought a 805 and on speed 2 it makes a clunking sound when you fire it up, doesn't seem to happen on speed 1...Normal????
Yes it's the clutch break. It's normal.

I'll keep my 791, thank you. Don't,t see the need for anything else considering that I don't use mine every day. So, I don't need to "Upgrade" to another drill when mine does just fine by itself.
Just remember that the DCD800 is a bit heavier than the DCD791
I ended up returning my DCD800.
It cut off and got hot when trying to drive relatively short timber locks.
I've used mine probably twenty five times and it cuts off when it gets hot. The gears also sound like they're coming apart. Would definitely not recommend.
I watched this video in the hope of learning what is different between the DCD800 and DCD805. 😞
805 is hammer drill, 800 is not

No. It is close, but in no way or form could it keep up to a 996 in big stuff. I would rather use this than a 996 while working though. I am getting used to smaller and more powerful tools and it fits my ergonomic wants well.

After watching this video I bought the 791. It's got plenty of power. Don't care for bloated 800 body. I'm also considering getting a 777 due it's near-1-lbs weight reduction.

DCD 791, 460W motor plus ~ 20% losses in electronic driver, 27Nm @ 550RPM and 7.42Nm@ 2000RPM. DCD800 - 34 Nm @ 650RPM and 11Nm @ 2000 RPM. Forget about hard torque 70Nm @ DCD791 and 90Nm @ DCD 800, coz' is just an impact shock from hard stop in speed 2 ( where it has 11Nm sustained) from full RPM with low load, and is related to inertia, momentum, and kinetic energy in relation with the speed squared, so in speed 1 the hard torque is 9X lower for DCD 800 and 13,2X lower for DCD791...Hard torque is more marketing BS, and in in real use is breaking screws and stuff you work on. For extra torque there is the autobrake and manual wrenching, usable even when torque limiter is engaged and overruled.

It's pretty good.
27 Nm soft torque in speed one is good enough for screwing even huge wood screws and for drilling above normal. It's pretty good enough medium duty, but not realy super heavy duty. Minuses are:
- 1. With 5Ah pack is wey to heavy. But with 2 or one row 3Ah compact the weight is OK @ 1.5Kg but not recomanded because it has higher RPM @ medium torque and it drains a lot of amps and so it can abuse the pack. With 4Ah so coled compact one row of 21700 cells it has the power but is to heavy @ 1.7 kg.
With 1.7 Ah powerstack the weight could be nice but the drill becomes front heavy and that is pretty bad, and altrough it has the power, 1.7Ah is stupid retarded, even in 2006 I had 2 Ah NiCd. All other are to big and heavy, 5Ah powerstack, 6Ah high drain, 8Ah, flex volt, etc. Dewalt needs a new compact 2.5 Ah powerstack.
- 2. Being brushless with high RPM and a larger diameter motor and fan it's noisier then previous non brushless mid torque models like DCD780, but it's less noisy then DCD 800 that has an even bigger diameter motor and fan and is very annoying noise wise. By the wey, DCD 800 specs were updated just after my previous post, and it has only 28 Nm soft torque in speed one, so only 1Nm over DCD 791.
@@loochan325 I don’t know if you saw my comment, but I returned the 800 that I had. It wasn’t nearly as good as people make it out to be.
I was trying to drive some 3” timber locks, that weren’t very big in diameter, into Douglas fir. The 800 cut out and got pretty hot. It was pretty good with a spade bit, though, but most drills can handle a 1/2” spade bit. Even my 777 has enough power for that.
In speed 1 it should be OK and fast enough on both DCD 800 and 791. Anywey, even if 27 Nm is good enough to screw 8 x 300mm or even 10 x 300 without predrilling in soft wood, there are at least 5 problems:
1. Not all wood is soft...
2. Screwing in wood without predrilling is super stupid even if timber locks are spect not to need that. Not only that you need a lot of torque and power, drain a lot of amps, the motor and electronic driver gets hot, even the cables can melt and short, but first thing first the wood can crack and I can't stand that.
3. The brushless drills have a more agresive electronic cut of protection but also higher RPM even in speed 1 so more amps and more protection. For this reason an old Makita DDF 453 stupid long and without light can look more powerfull with 27 Nm soft torque (43 hard) even if DDF has a decent protection, better then previous BDF. Even so, more screws one after another can be to much also for 453.
4. More screws one after another can abuse the tool and pack, they get hot and need protection.
5. The battery packs are not all the same. 2-3Ah models have decent weight but not enough power for 550-650 RPM in speed 1 @ 27-28 Nm.
@@loochan325 Honestly, my 777 does it in speed one. I haven’t done multiple timber locks at a time with it, but it didn’t get hot after a couple like the 800 did.
I think the bigger body helps, as mentioned in this video.

This guy has no idea how to hold the drill when using a paddle bit. You let the bit do the cutting, as opposed to forcing it. He reminds of the new guy on the job that has never used power tools.
