Manfred von Richthofen suffered from C-PTSD and depression, much due to a bullet that was stuck in his brain. He became quiet, cold and he did grow a big hatred for the war in general. The Sopwith Camel, piloted by Canadian pilot Wilfred R May attacked his cousins plane and Richthofen intervened. He also knew that the Kaiser was about to pull him off combat flying due to his issues so he knew it was one of his last flights anyway. We don't know what factors that made him disregard his own policy and break off from The Flying Circus, Jasta 11 and give chase far behind enemy lines on low altitude. But it's clear that he had enough and wanted to go out in style dying a heroes death. We salute you Baron Manfred von Richthofen. "To our Galant and Worthy foe"
@@metaldaddaughters From what I've read, the bullet that killed him, pierced his chest from the right side and exited on his left side. I've read that the bullet tumbled around in his chest, shredding both his lounges ... and yet ... he managed to *LAND* his plane, even when he couldn't breathe properly. Still blows my mind to this day.
So happy to see Metal Dad and Metal Cat in my feed today! My 2 indoor cats turned 9 today! Meow! Gosh, it's tough w Sabaton...the videos (even the animated ones) make ME cry! Can't have a repeat of Christmas Truce! How about Night Witches? Animated story video, story with maximum Girl Power...about an all-female bomber regiment from Russia! And the song is a total banger! Hello to the missing young lady from us fans of the channel!
@Metal Dad & Daughters Oh sweet! I will. Have you branched out to Tommy Johansson yet? ( lead guitar for Sabaton) what a voice! 7 Pillars of Wisdom, Disney style, on Tommy's channel
He was killed taking chances he didn't normally take. Some think this had something to do with those injuries and mood changes they mentioned here. When you come back to Sabaton, try a live version. 'En Livstid I Krig', live The Great Tour Gothenburg ,Sweden. It's in Swedish, but with English subtitles. The crowd participation is awesome.
Interestingly despite his success he mandated that no one should attack a pilot who had already been shot down if they survived. It was actually a common rule among WW1 pilots, sadly didn't last longer than the one war.
Always good to learn something new from Sabaton. Solid 7 from me. War sucks. What an unfortunate part of human existence. Peace Metal Dad and Metal Cat 🤘
Adding Machine Guns Was A Smart Decision In The War. Reason I Say That Is Because Early Dogfighting Were Flat Out Terrible The Pilots Had To Use Thier Handguns To Take Each Other Out & The Copilots Were Using Rifles(That Is An Historical Fact) Trying To Take Out A Pilot With Just A Pistol Took Way Too Long &.....With How Fast These Planes Went........You Would Miss More Shots Then Land A Hit
He apparently said either “kaput” in the sense of broken, or finished, as they where running up to him he could’ve been saying either “I’m finished” or in the sense of Germany “we’re finished” interesting theory either way
