Oh wow, 'Out of Sheer Rage' sounds fantastic. I must search this out. Yes, Tolkien started it all for me too, what a delight. Ah, & dinner with Falstaff, my god, yes!!!
Yep, I’d recommend any Geoff Dyer!
Brilliant. So with you on Jeffrey Archer and James Patterson. Fabulous answers. Really enjoyed this 😊😊
Thanks. I wish the “ranty” questions weren’t so enjoyable:)
“I could probably make the raft out of The Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire.” 😂 Excellent! Wonderful answers, Gavin. I really enjoyed your video. I had forgotten all about Jeffrey Archer. I feel similarly about Ezra Pound.
I am sorry to have reminded you of Jeffrey Archer!
@@GenreBooks23 I remember reading something by him when I was maybe 18. I don’t remember what it was, maybe Kane and Abel, but I remember I read it very, very quickly. But I never read him again after all the controversy.
@@BookChatWithPat8668 I think i first became aware of him through him "Spitting Image" puppet!
And thanks for the tag Gavin! Happy reading.
You’re welcome
Thanks for the shout out! This is an awesome tag and as always, you’ve got some amazing answers! 😊
Thanks, look forward to seeing your spin on it..
Mañana mañana. Thanks for the tip on, Out of Sheer Rage by Geoff Dyer, I'll definitely get around to it!
Do it, he brilliant!
Interesting list. I gotta agree with the James Patterson choice. I only read one book not really written by him. His take on the pulp hero, The Shadow. And only because The Shadow is my favorite fictional character and I'm willing to give anything about him a chance. The real author is a decent writer and it was okay, but I had some real problems with stuff and won't read any more.
Thanks! I do hope the “real” authors of Patterson books make enough dough out of it all.
Adding Out of Sheer Rage to my future TBR.
You won’t regret it!
Hey Gavin!
Some interesting answers and some tidbits that caught my attention. First, I agree about James Patterson. I have reasons I won’t read Stephen King (w/ two exceptions.) However, I am looking forward to _Run Rose Run_ 🌹 How awesome that you like Dolly!
Also, I’m not sure if you know of freelance journalist, Nick Wallis, but I know he reported on the British Post Office Scandals.
Then, what ‘League’ were you mentioning about researching? My apologies. 😅 Can’t quite catch the name, but it sounds like your effort in researching it may pay off one day! ✍🏻📚
It’s the Hanseatic league- late c12th to c15th, they basically had trading rights across much of Northern Europe
@@GenreBooks23 Ah! Thanks for clarifying :)
Nice. I think I'm gonna do this one.
Cool, look forward to it..
Thank you for the tag. I enjoyed hearing your answers. Did you cheat with the 82 year running show for #7? LOL You response for #9 is so cryptic. My list would far exceed five authors.
Yup, I’ve smuggled the complete works of Shakespeare in!
@@GenreBooks23 Yes, I saw that book! I gifted that book to my son. It's a beautiful edition. 👍👍
I've bought a Nadine Dorries for GarbAugust, I got it off ebay though so no money goes into her pocket. I predict that it will be diabolical. Geoff Dyer seems to have very interesting book titles, I'll keep an eye out for him.
Haha, you’re a braver man than me to read that!
Perhaps a German publisher might be interested in a general history of the Hanseatic League. Or an academic or popular history publisher.
It’ll have to be popular history: I’m neither German (es tut mir leid) not very academic!
