It's incredible watching this years later and hearing a silent crowd after Chris says "Green Flame" for the first time.
the bizarre thing is tha he looks at the public as he was expecting it already, like in his mind it was already THE catchphrase.
No surprise that Chris Perkins, "DM to the Stars," was born on a leap year. Without Chris we wouldn't have some of the best live gaming moments in D&D history. To celebrate great DM's everywhere, tell us about one of your best moments as a DM or a great DM you've had the honor of playing with.
My best moments as a DM are often not when things go according to plan, but when the players and I are off the rails and vamping off of each other. You'll be surprised how quickly you can think when you're feeding off the vibe of your table.
Case in point: we are playing _Scourge of the Sword Coast_ at my FLGS, and I had a halfling rogue want to inspect Alven Gissen's room. It could've gone off without a hitch and the story kept humming along, but I had the image of a halfling trying to pick a lock that is too tall for him demand that I use it. So we did, and a five-minute long comedy improv on how the rogue wanted to solve this problem. Every step introduced a new challenge, and the table was in stitches by the time we were done. The rogue wound up failing pretty miserably (that's what happens when the only table in an adjacent room has a half-finished game of Jenga on it) but nobody cared. It was too much fun to not explore that little side-routine.
I am usually the DM when I play. One of the few rare moments when I got to play was when I was still in HS and the much older brother of our gaming group held a few sessions where we played a home grown scenario in a world he created.
All of it was based upon the album "Songs From the Wood" by Jethro Tull.
He used the lyrics of many of the songs in that album for developing the world, the plot, and used one song as a form of a riddle that we had to solve.
It was an amazingly creative gaming experience where the music would be playing in the background. We were constantly referencing the lyrics in the album cover whenever he presented new content just to see where he may have got the reference from.
I must say it was probably my most memorable gaming experience of all time.
Thank you Jim Z. for creating and sharing such an enjoyable RPG experience... wherever you are. :-)
There was one campaign where everybody was getting fed up, even I as the DM. Eventually the party killed a former PC to use his head as the prophet of a religion they made up on the spot. I really didn't care by that point and was much more invested in screwing two water-bottles together. That was a really interesting day.
Having been out of D&D for a few years I was invited to a play with a group from UNI. Hesitantly, with my halfling ranger in front of me, I picked up my D20 again.
During our lengthy adventures we went spelunking through dungeons, attacking the darkness, and even stitched back together the fabric of time. Throughout this our DM rekindled my love of slinging dice.
It brought our group together through some hillarous scenarios. You haven't lived until you have seen a rouge, who being transformed into a cat. Still somehow manages (by using some truly impressive gymnastics) to perform a full strength sneak attack on on a dealdy foe. We all couldn't stop laughing at her feline acrobatics. Coincidentally, the player of this rouge has now been my girlfriend for the last 6 years.
All of these wonderful experiences all had at its core, a gifted DM. Thanks Andy.
Our DM had our party of 4 facing a basilisk.
After a long and dangerous fight, we killed the damn thing but one of our comrades had been turned into stone.
Without any spells that could turn him back to normal, we began to walk away from his statue. Someone suggested to loot the basilisk, in hope to find something decent. The only thing that we looted was...its balls.
Yes, the Basilisk's Balls.
Without any clue what they were used for, I decided to throw them away.
Due to some high luck, the balls fell on our comrade that had been turned into stone, and then cured him from his misery.
Best night ever
I love how Chris Perkins is very clearly on the side of his players. He has a narrative adventure and challenges to present them, but is always willing to indulge in the players' solutions, only occasionally saying "no" when something is either unreasonable (usually a joke anyway) or impossible. Moreover, he adjudicates with an emphasis on fun regardless if their actions succeed or fail. Truly something to aspire toward as a DM.
Ya such a great and fair DM
Chris Perkins is the GOAT
I think it's important to note especially that he lets the martial/mundane/muggle characters do 'cool stuff' - not just the casters. It rewards creative play in a way that the base system doesn't - as he says elsewhere, 'everyone gets to play'.
Chris is the person I do my utmost to aspire to be when I am running a game. So far it's been a lot of fun with the players I've had in the different games I've been apart of

The three scariest words a DM can say in response to your actions.
The golden years. Chris Perkins is the ultimate DM for sure.
This is the first and last time Chris Perkins ever said the phrase "Green Flame" in front of hundreds of people without them yelling it back at him.
I actually do believe we got the crowd to scream green flame at pax unplugged year 2019 I believe. I can't remember if Chris was there that night I didn't get to stay the whole day but
@@StormHawk422 no, I was at pax unplugged in 2018 and Jeremy Crawford had taken over at that point
@@jimhirl2194 ah I see, so do they not hang with Chris Perkins as much anymore? I haven't kept up with acquisitions inc the past few years so I'm not sure how they are anymore
15:45 yeah, it's so weird hearing him say this and the crowd remaining silent.
2022, and still comming back
"we have sunken to a new level."
"give us time."
... considering the events of the game, that was really prophetic...
You know you've done something awesome when the DM starts frantically flipping through the rule book.
Man these four with Chris as the dm... For sure the best acquisitions incorporated was imo! These guys made me want to play DND, last year it finally happened :')
Grateful for these videos👏🏻
2020, and still watching these shows
they never get old
2021!

This one is my favorite!

Hey same here.
This brought back memories of playing D&D with my friends back in the early 1980's at the age of 14 or so. While D&D is slaying monsters and plundering treasures, it is really about friends enjoying each others company and probably more goofing around. I'm not sure we ever got through an entire quest. Good times and memories forever.
chris Perkins should have a TV show where he invites different people to play dnd. he is the best dnd master ever existed.
+TheOuterLimits The guy who runs Critical Role games may actually be the best. If you had said that to me about 3-4 months ago I would have agreed with you that Chris is the best -- then I stumbled across that series, and he's just unbelievable. You have to go watch those immediately if you like this series.
+voteZDLR Matt Mercer is an excellent DM. He is more in depth with detail and he's vhas some great stories, but Chris Perkins puts more humor into the adventure it just seems more fun imo.
Matthew Lugo I think that's a fair evaluation. Chris's Acquisitions Icorporated games are perhaps the most famous series of DM'ed tabletop games on the Internet today (although Critical Role's pretty damn popular, too) -- but overall the atmosphere is more serious in Mercer's. That's not to say all Chris can do is comedy. I've heard from people who claim to have played with him (and I don't have any reason to suspect them of lying) who say he's actually sort of a ruthless DM if you're playing in just one of his normal games. He'll follow the rules to the letter whether it benefits him or if it benefits the players, and he's been known to instakill a player's beloved character in a single round action. Not necessarily the guy you know and love from this series. Also he gives them a lot more breaks during the livestream events, but I actually don't blame him for that because they have to stick to a time table. They're both excellent, high-quality DMs though, no matter which way you look at it.
Yes!
Dice Camera Action (Which I just finished watching the first season of) is a bit of a better show of Perkins sorta...full on GM style. He's a cool guy, but he follows his rules well. There's still humour and a lot of cool shit - but he is often vicious.
I wish every box of D&D would come with a free Chris Perkins
Nemizark sized.
You wouldn't pay with money...
Chris Perkins is my DM-sensei, I learned how from watching all these shows :)
I know this is ages old but their dynamics were so perfect. Love how the table is basically divided. Capable dudes with a plan on the left and chaotic (very lovable) idiots on the right.
"the door is very old and very brittle..." "15!" "...and has a dwarf shaped hole in it..."
I've Always been the DM of our DnD group, 10 years of 3.5 and still going strong! My most memorable and gratifying moment as a DM was after a long and exciting session with a horror-theme to it. The players woke up in a haunted mansion without memory of how they got there, but slowly getting information on what had happened, all the while being terrorized and psychologically abused by me as a DM.
That evening ended with two of my players not daring to bike back home in the dark after our game session, insisting on staying the night at my place.
At that Point I knew I had done my part. :)
Good job my friend
just started playing DnD for the first time a couple months ago, we've met up like 5 times now for our campaign. What you just described sounds like so much fun! I would love to play something like that.
what were you 12?
Damn that was good, I spent over 2 hour watch this and got a hell lot more enjoyment out this then any movie I've seen recently.
I still watch this and get tips from the master for my home games.
"You STOLE Fizzy Lifting DRINKS!" one of the many lines that made me smile and laugh a little. These guys are wonderfully entertaining. It would have been such a gift to have an adventure with them.
At least twice a year this needs to be done, it's fairly cheap and extremely entertaining. Love what you guys do, keep it coming.
I started watching these because of Will but I've become just as interested in everybody else. CHRIS PERKINS IS THE MAN!
Giant statues seem to be Perkins' favourite set piece of all time :)
I've seen 4 of these PAX sessions now and there's been a giant statue which you can crawl up into and/or control in 3 of them.
Props to @ChrisPerkins, a random audience member makes a KoolAid reference, and Chris drops the stinkin koolaid man as an NPC. That's no coincidence, that's a DM gone beast mode.
same in the 2010 episode
one of the players exclaimed 'that's rad!' when something cool happened
10mins later, npc named Rad
I always thought DnD and roleplaying was kinda boring or stale, but looking at this makes me wanna play with these guys.
+brozter Depends on your group and what kind of gameplay you prefer. For me, the most precious things on roleplaying is that after some time of playing you actualy have stories that you can tell about your character.
Some players actualy make very detailed diaries which they then share on internet and unless you are not told that it was some RPG gameplay you would believe it to be actual story that someone just wrote out of their head.
+iglidor But that is exactly what D&D and other RPG games like D&D are, outlines for fantasy stories. You fill in the detail as you play.
Mark LaPolla Yeah but there are fantasy stories worthy to tell and some that are not. And which are which depends on your DM and how you play. I mean I met two solid munchkins and played with them in past for while. It was absolutely boring after two sessions. Fantasy story that will never be told because it is boring even to those who were there, not to mention how silly it would sound to someone else.
That is what I meant by different gameplays.
Players can have fun, but story can still suck a lot with certain styles
True enough. You can write your own fantasy adventure, or rather game it, but that doesn't mean they'll be great. Just think what Vonnegut said about storytelling.
+brozter I don't see how having fun with friends and discussing and completely fantasy world could ever be boring.
It's been ten years since they have made jokes about taking to kong on his book and it's still not out yet
1:43:00 that is how a good dm works. he could have just said you kill them all, or you do 100 points to all of them, but no, instead he comes up with something a little unconventional that accomplishes the same thing while making the player feel even more awesome about what he just did.
I can't believe they missed the chance to say. "How was your treesome?"
Must have been like jerking off with sandpaper. Ouch
Whoever makes these props for these liveshow dungeons do an amazing job!
26:42 and onwards is the most I've ever laughed watching acq Inc. It's been 9 years and I still laugh randomly remembering this absolute gem of a scene lmao
its 2016 and this is still the best season, they still need to top this
2022...still watching these guys...
I know people miss Wheaton, but Rothfuss is a great player.
fuck Wheaton. He's a SJW trashpuppy.
Wheaton used to have principles after a fashion....now he is a true SJW who cares more about feelings than facts
@@ROYBGP better than chila labouf
IDC about the politics, but Wheaton was a loud obnoxious idiot that just parroted other peoples jokes.
I do NOT miss Wheaton. He's a good player, but a poor player.
I came to this video after watching all the newer ones and I was caught off guard when Chris said "green flame" and the audience didn't repeat it!
Do you know where the one before this is?
So this is where that Green Flame stuff comes from. I was so damn confused.
Ben Burnes GREEN FLAME!!
Stolen from Big Trouble in Little China from the late 80s/early 90s.
Ben Burnes finally!
I like how, the first time he says it, he's feigning suprise that there's no crowd chant, and goes /pensive 'Okay....'
It was great seeing the birth of this live! I didn't imagine it would take off like it did.
"Edit *that* part out?! Heaven forbid we offend Rod Stewart!" :')
11:58 6 and a half years later, Pat, we are still eagerly enjoying bickering about how long Day 3 is taking to edit. May the road rise to meet you, &c.
2:07:25 I didn't catch it before, but Scott seems to be humming the Attack on Titan theme.
Jup
He has a pretty crazy trivia memory. I have probably seen all of the same things he has, but I can't recall every detail from them like he does off the top of my head. It's pretty amazing, tbh.
Holy shit! I never would have cought that, thank you!
Bloody great pull
*GREEN FLAME*
I love rewatching these. Still get new people to play D&D by showing them this show
You know you're screwed when the DM says, "thank you". :D
That moment when Pat realizes what he's done by landing on the ship.
The thing about Dryads, their bark is worse then their bite
Oh dear, the origin of GREEN FLAME
my thought exactly
GREEN FLAME!!!!
"Is there a chandelier in here?" Oh Rothfuss... You can't keep away from the whole Errol Flynn thing, can you? hehe
Addendum: I don't know of any cast iron chandelier made of swords, but in Karlsborg fortress here in Sweden there is a chandelier made out of bayonets.
its a reference to the song of ice and fire (game of thrones) Iron Throne. A throne made entirely of cast iron swords.
Ok. Haven't read the books, haven't watched the show.
yeah thats one of the coolest chandelier i ever seen!
I've never played D&D, but man, these guys sure make this look great. Any yes, to all those saying the DM is awesome, they are correct. I think it wouldn't be nearly the same without him.
Hey, I was there. So much fun. Got to meet Pat at the Barnes & Noble too.
One nice thing about watching different shows or listening to various podcasts is that, well, they all play D&D and yet there is so much variety :D That's some good stuff, right here.
I replayed that riddle part a couple of times, then sent it to a friend. It was so good and so true. Especially since we're currently doing Curse of Strahd and there's a lot of stuff we need to write down, and the tarot card riddles.
"You may roll all of your dice."
"Cool."
**Pulls out an enormous velvet sack from under the table**
"Heaven forbid we offend Rod Stewart"
That shit had me dying
"I start singing a rush song, "The Trees"
Dead.
I love Rush. I love that song.
Dead.
I’m watching this in 2022 and crying at work right now. 🤣🤣
+Dungeons & Dragons This entire campaign should be animated! Awesome job
Lmao!! This was brilliant, especially the 25th minute and on.
I love Will, but I do believe he's over the top and a little obnoxious. Binwin and Jim have much better control of the jokes than Will ever had.
15:45 Chris's reaction of disbelief for not hearing GREEEEN FLAAAAAME from the crowd
i'm addicted to these videos....they're awesome. Reminds when I used to play D&D back in the 70's and 80's when I had time on my hands....ahhh...good times. This guy Chris Perkins is a great DM and not too too harsh on the players...he's not the DM of Doom...lol. The players are hilarious. I hope AI keeps making these videos as long as they live. Great Stuff.
I love how the name "Sylvan Glade" basically just means "Forest-y forest" :P
Not really, though. A glade is a small open area in a forest where there aro no trees.
A reliably positive advancement in quality has occurred in this 'series' of annual events and I have to say, that every year the quality has not dipped in any significant degree to undermine the overall comforting satisfaction that has been provided in entertainment form. Thoroughly excited to see what can be done next.
Coming from the year 2019, there are two surreal oddities in this episode: 1) Hearing Chris Perkins say the words "Green Flame" followed by no one repeating his words, and 2) hearing Chris Perkins say No to Patrick Rothfuss. It's kind of unnerving, to be honest.
The only one that ever called out Pat's spotlight hogging meta gaming bullshit was Scott. Shame he's gone
This is my first true D&D game I've watched and I'm having sooo much fun
I'm gonna play it for the first time in a few days, can't wait!
Also love Chris Perkins is his name I believe
Wish I knew a DM like Chris xD
voteZDLR I wish I could DM like Chris
Chad-Solomon Dixon I wish I could DM, period, lol. I am just learning, started my first serious campaign a little over a month ago. My DM isn't Chris Perkins but everything's been great so far, anyway :)
I wish I could have friends to DM a game with. All of my closest friends aren't interested in D&D unfortunately.
Han Daimond You can find people to play with in your local area on Meetup.com (just Google D&D meetups) OR you can find a group to play with online. Both have their pros/cons. I would recommend getting into it if you can though! It took me like 15 years to finally figure that out, that there were other ways to get games going. It may take a bit of tries, but once you find a good group, it's definitely worth it.
+Han Daimond try Roll20.net if you want to play online
I've never played D&D. After watching these Acquisitions Inc., i really want to play.
Can I offer a point of advice from experience? Find people who can stay focused like these guys. My group is completely dysfunctional because of a few bad picks.
I really want to know if you ended up playing D&D
Crowley same
2022 and still watching them play. GREEN FLAME!!!!!!!
after watching all the available Acquisitions Inc. D&D videos I would like to sincerely like to thank all of the players for teaching me what this game has the potential to be. I had extremist doubts about D&D before watching them and am now finally investing my time with new friends in what is actually a fun and engaging game!
Please make more. Everyone together made a masterpiece of something we love. I would watch this over and over and over. Please produce more! The audience helped too
Man, i'm watching this 2nd time now, and i've never played D&D..
I want to try it so much! :)
I have binge re-watched all of these from 2012 and the podcasts more times then Jim winked.
I have never played, but I love listening to the banter back and forth between all of you. You guys are hilarious.

3:20 - is that K'thriss Drow'b years before we'll officially meet him?
"'You almost killed my friends.' And I cast Burning Hands."
Perhaps one of my favorite moments thus far, aside from the dryad scene. XD
Watching again for the IDK fifth time .... I really miss DnD with Scot sitting next to Mike cracking up Chris & Jerry and Patrick . Best entertainment ever .
Oh my god the bit with the "gay robot" and drinking from his spigot....holy shit my sides hurt from laughing xD
When that guy yelled, "Hey you guys!" I absolutely lost it.
In one of my quests i saddled a Terasque, I died soon after, but i did it. Best Character kill off ever.
Great session. Rothfuss is an excellent addition to Acquisitions Inc.
The crowd is so cool and active. Must be a lot of fun to play with them watching/engaging in the adventure as well.
Now that is how a DM should do it! I love watching these and only wish the games I play were this good.
I miss Scott as Binwin, always fun to have a dwarf making dwarfshaped holes in doors.
Again, what a great session. I just went and picked up Patrick's 1st book off Audible with some credits I had. 42 hours.. this is going to be no joke! Thanks again for the entertainment gents!
I tried watching the new (sep 2021) release, i couldn't... Bring this crew and vibe back!
Chris Perkins reminded alot that dark pope from Ghost B.C.
He also looks like the Reaper from Bill and Ted the movie
They are much better without Wil there. They can actually come out of their shell and be funny because Wheaton isn't hogging the limelight trying to be funny. These guys are actually funny and they look so much more comfortable now that he isn't there.
Digital Paradise Studios agree 100% didn't realise how much I disliked Wil until Pat came along
Wheaton's too good of a player for him. I'm glad he moved on to greener pastures.
"too good of a player"
Remind me, who wouldn't stop crying about his generic trope of a character dying after running headlong into an acid trap and failing several saves immediately after it was established that tons of deadly traps were just activated, and who was it who basically just said "goddammit" and moved on when his icon of a character was killed immediately by kissing a damsel he'd just saved?
This is probably my favorite 'episode' of AI. Chris and the team just seem very connected with the crowd instead of only with each other.
Loved the reasoning to step on the rich district
Looking back, it's really weird watching D&D "Next" as opposed to 5e. All the little changes are really interesting, and it really makes me wish Critical Role had the years worth of content of them playing e4, Pathfinder, and the practice games with 5e in preparation for the show.
nicely done I enjoyed this while painting some minis :)
This was the first video for dnd I ever watched and it got me into the hobby!
With the exception of some parts where they stayed more than they should, everyone was amazing. Perkins is the best DM someone could hope for, but I was really surprised by Patrick. He was so much fun and his contribution to this video is immense. Role playing at its best. The others were also very good with some great moments. This video is a classic.
I know this is hard to do but, can't you Wizard of the Coast guys do a D&D live game like this every month? (Of course not as big as Pax Prime live sessions) We know that Chris DMs for the guys why can't you just record it. I'm not talking about podcasts, it's funnier (and better) when you can see the players expressions and plus I'm a DM Chris is such an inspiration, he's a monster!! And Patrick it's the best thing Acquisition ever had! What ho!!
"Don't be a bigot, suck my spigot!"
This was awesome! :D
What makes me laugh is how cheeky these guys were being towards Chris. "I'm above him doesn't that give him disadvantage?" "What about the Kool-Aid?" I'm surprised Chris went along with it
Patrick Rothfuss reminds me almost EXACTLY of my good friend ric. He was a hi-roller too. Not to mention EPIC beard.
I think I heard someone hum the Attack on Titan theme during the Kaiju fight
I think it's Scott! Haven't noticed that before, thanks!!
What ksiju fight
YOU STOLE FIZZY-LIFTING DRINKS!
This was flawless... Miss these guys
I was having a shitty day then I come home and look in my subscription feed and here's this video... This made my day guys thanks for bringing my spirits up!!
Is it official Dnd cannon that a chandelier does d"All-of-your-dice" damage?
that robot dick segment had me laughing so hysterically i started hacking and coughing. rossfuss isnt as confident as the others on stage (naturally) but he has a natural and laidback wit that makes him a much better fit with this group than wheaton (who preferred to ham it up).
ham is trek 101
This is one of my favorite stories of all time.
This is the best episode of them all.
