I live in a city, so there's not much bones laying around and the most I've seen are dead pigeons, still with skin and fethers. But now I want to take them to the nearby forest, and wait for them to decompose. Am I okay?
If you do that you should put a cage around them so wildlife can’t get them. Also can put them in a bucket of water which will slowly “melt” the tissue off the bones and make cleaning and degreasing easier later
If they still have the feathers I recommend taking the pigeon and a flower pot to the forest. Now you can cover the pigeon with the flower pot, put some rocks on it and you're good. Wait for 3/4 weeks
I wish we lived in a time where animals could gain nutrients from my body and my remains would blend into mother earth. Death doesn't have to be gruesome. It can be beautiful. Our bodies are just vessels for our souls. They served their purpose
I am a perfect blend of vulture culture and goblincore. I love finding and collecting bones, but I haven't found much. I found a dumping ground for cow carcasses once, so i have a cow skull and a jawbone, and either a fawn or goatkid skull. I also found what I either think to be a mink or a cat, but I don't know because I didn't find the skull :( You're so lucky to have your own bonefield
woah- thats a lot of bones! yknow i bet if you start having too much of the same stuff you could start putting some stuff in jars and selling them! could make you some good bank lol
i live near a creek, i've found a few bones there including pelvis's and ribs. if there are bodies of water nears you, go to there since they are hotspots for bones. tons of bones wash up there !! :-))
My backyard is a forest yet I’ve never found bones but deer season gust ended so I’m hoping by the summer there will be bones cause hunters dump deer remains in our forest 😃
Do you have any tips on how I can spot the bones better. So far I found one dropped deer antler (which I am happy about). I just need to find more bones to satisfy my inner vulture
I live nowhere near forests. So I rely on owls and their pellets. I with I could get some things like this. I also live in a country land. Where our grass is green and we have trees, but it's not very heavily populated by these kinds of things. It makes me sad :'(
@Black Smoke i suggest looking in dense forest areas, a dying animal is more likely to feel comfortable there as it passes away as well as searching on areas that you know people hunt for animals in, such as birds. i found a couple stray bones here in there, hope this helps!
Go into the woods next to a stream and look for deer paths (Usually they are areas near water, with deer footprints and less foliage). I have found beaver skulls, deer skulls, raccoon skulls and fox skulls with this method. Look at anything white you see.
Ask farmers in your area what they do with dead live stock, sometimes there are designated places they bring dead cows goat ect who were sick or old so they couldn't go to the buchers
for me, i live in rural kansas, and i go out to a shelter belt, line of trees, or wooded area. then i usually try to find some deer grass, meaning grass deer lay down in, and then i find deer paths through that grass. you can find some bones walking down there and looking around. dont be afraid to go out and look :> it’s fun and relaxing to be in nature
Thank you I'm so glade your wearing gloves even though sometimes nature cleanse them it self but to be honest I feel like still taking precautions is necessary.
No way!!! You found a whole PILE of bones!!! It’s weird because I just found a skull on its own with no bones around it at all… I took it anyway. Anybody know what happened?
i know a few places animals have died last year (including where an entire skeleton was that me and my mom found before i was into bone collection) and once all the snow melts in my area im gonna search for bones!! i think theres a pretty intact deer skull in my yard (my yard is a HUGE forest, i literally own the land so it is my yard)
Watching this reminded me of the whole forest/farmland/river I have all around me. Makes me want to go back outside and try and find trinkets again. Also to just enjoy nature like I used to as a kid. I remember finding a whole almost perfect crow skeleton along the train tracks and NOT TAKING IT! I regret that, but hey maybe next time I’ll find skunk remains since there’s so many skunks where I live. Or just a lot of really big snails, or bits of scrap! Anyways, keep doing what you love! : D
I like in a kind of urban area. I’ve never found any bones here (found a cow skull on vacation but that’s it) I’ve actually seen many animals near my house. Coyotes, deer, sometimes raccoons, and one time I saw an opposum, which I know have been in my backyard bc my neighbors dog had killed like 5. There’s a river near my home, and that’s where all the animals come from, so I may ask to go there!
Really one of the only tips I have is keep an eye out on the ground whenever you're in a forest. Pay attention to where you're stepping, pay attention to white things you see out of the corner of your eye, if you're really committed watch for areas where vultures circle and check them out. Of course, you're more likely to find a carcass with a little more meat on it that way, but if you want to put in the extra effort of getting that off so you can just have the bones there are ways to do that for sure.
I went into my grandmas property recently and found six deer skulls and a cat skull :,D I of course took the deer skulls home, and burried the poor kitties remains because I knew who she was
Two of the families in my friend group life on farms, and we look for bones all the time at one of the farms. We find rib bones, deer antlers, raccoon jaws, and a cow skull and pelivs. I'm getting some sifters for my birthday and am going to go sifting for teeth and small bones next time I go there
sometimes all you need is luck. i found a possum skull by just spontaneously looking at the forest floor while bone hunting and stopping when i noticed something that didn’t look like a mushroom. you can also have friends give you tips on roadkill or bones they find
Try checking in forest or places that not alot of people go to or if you have a house that you can go under check there and in your backyard if you have one

Near streams or trees and heavy brush is best. The less populated the area the better
I found 3 racoon skull yesterday and today in my uncle abandonned cabin.
When i was young i found a peace of a jaw bone off a rat i wanted to keep the teeth but mom said no
I was out just today looking for bones! I found tones of dead things! The only thing worth collecting tho was baby coyote skull!
Thats cool!

the ones with horns look so cool!! im jealous
This is RAD! You seem like a cool person to explore the woods with, have a good day :)
I’d bring along a sharp knife to cut away grass and stuff if the bones are tangled in it so as to not damage the bone by just trying to pull it out
ooo this is really cool btw do you know any good spots to find them though
Unfortunately I don't know where to find them other than just forests in general, or y'know roadkill

Another good place to look for bones is near bodies of water, because sometimes animals drink from there :]
We love bones here in Nigeria.. Thank for the Video.
HOW ARE THERE SO MANY BONES?? IS THIS NOTMAL IN AMERICA?!?
It's not normal, this was just a specific place where a bunch of dead goats decomposed :)
My dad's ex has a hill they throw goats down too! I'm going to ask him if she would be okay with me retrieving them in the warmer months!
do you have any tips for finding bones? Ive been looking whenever I go out on walks and hikes for a while now but I can never spot any.
Look for shaded places or walk around in fields near places with lots of wildlife. Not guaranteed you’ll find them but that’s what helps me :>

Next to roads and railroads are also good places to look. Just be careful

sometimes skulls can end up 20 whole yards away from the rest of their skeleton. you can find piles of bones with no skull or a skull but no bones.
No same thing happened to me but I found a whole body with a skull connected
Possibly a scavenger like a fox took the head off to eat it, i found a deer skull all by itself in an area i know for sure has active foxes
yeah me too.i found a cat skull whit no jaw and no more bones around it and i looked for other bones like 3 days there
Awesome!! I just recently went fishing with my father and i found a horse femur next to the horses skull!
This deserves more recognition
There's a lot of deer near our house so I hope I can find a deer skull.
