In our final episode of Season One, we're joined by John Lewis, aka Badass Vegan. John's upcoming doc, They're Trying to Kill Us, touches on so many of the issues that we've looked at this year on the podcast - factory farming, race and Big Pharma, just to name a few - but through the unique lens of hip hop.
They’re Trying to Kill Us explores the connections between diet, poverty and systemic racism. As well as looking at veganism, we discuss Big Pharma and the link between mind and body.
John's life is literally the material for a great movie, as we found out recently when we joined John from his home in Wilmington, North Carolina.
“I don’t think we can wait for the governments and the rich to make a change. We have to make the change ourselves.” - John Lewis

So glad this movie was made and available to view free online for the entire month of February in honor of Black History Month (in the USA).
It should be said that veganism is NOT a diet. The word "vegan" was coined by members of the Vegan Society (UK) in the late 1940s and was heavily influenced by Albert Schweitzer's writings on Reverence for Life. The definition still stands today and is as follows:
"Veganism is a way of living which excludes all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, the animal kingdom, and includes a reverence and compassion for all life. It applies to the practice of living on the products of the plant kingdom to the exclusion of flesh, fish, fowl, eggs, honey, animal milk and its derivatives, and encourages the use of alternatives for all commodities derived wholly or in part from animals.
Veganism remembers man's responsibilities to the earth and its resources and seeks to bring about a healthy soil and plant kingdom and a proper use of the materials of the earth."
Thank you so much for your input and addition!

Anybody notice, this dude sounds like jay z?

But isn't it true that that black and brown folks "just so happen" to like food meat and fast food? My whole life i thought that poor people just like fast food and white reach people just prefer hip stylish food: vegan or vegetarian.
Not. It's by neighborhood and environmental design. I remember driving to the suburbs just to grocery shop because food was better and cheaper.
I bet this video is being suppressed
Also worth noting is that these are Democrat run cities who also called for defunding the police in 2020
From mayors to city council to governors to senators to congressional representatives
Perhaps consider voting for the best person???
Politics are opposite sides of the same coin and a way to keep people divided instead of working together for the greater good. What matters here is taking personal responsibility and accountability and not looking outside yourself for a savior or for someone to fix things for you.
@jennifergreen6109 tell me you vote democrat without telling me.
It does matter...Democrat run cities are crime ridden nightmares.
Now bidens open borderbinvasion and his 2 wars where billions more will go.
🪞
Imagine not taking responsibility for your own neighborhoods 😂
Imagine thinking that those are their neighborhoods 🤣🤣
Veganism almost wrecked my whole health
Its 2022 and you STILL cant find this movie anywhere. This is so stupid. All this hype for this documentary just to have it disappear. You wasted your time even making it
