Dress for the area and mind your business. You're more likely to be a target if you look too wealthy, green, and/or nosy. 3. Never let someone know you're alone, especially if you're a woman. 4. A little courtesy goes a long way in rough areas with a community focus. The scariest looking people can actually be extremely kind if you treat them decently, and their natural protectiveness is a great asset. And don't pick on the druggies, damn it. 5. Don't get too comfortable and watch what you say. Even if everyone is trash talking someone, it might be very different if YOU chime in, and being a gossip causes big problems. I bought this little LED thing that simulates a TV being on from someone outside the window, curtains drawn closed. It had a bank of brightasfcuk LED’s that ‘flickered’ in a way that you’d swear there was a TV on in the room from outside the window or under the door. It was really handy when I worked night shifts.
Three guys in high vis vests can walk into any store in America and walk out with anything two of them can carry, while the third "manages" and no one will question it.
I moved around a lot growing up, and have lived in a lot of sketchy places. 1) If you have to leave a bag in a car, always hide it. Under a seat, under a (rumpled) blanket, just never leave it in plain sight. Same with mail and boxes. 2) If you see something, it isn't your buisness, just walk away. (I know they essentially said it, but whatever) 3) If you're gonna be in a fight, try to (visibly) deescalate the situation. It's self defense. 4) I would always leave a light or two on, as well as music or something when I left the house empty, made it look like somebody was there. 5) Never be vulnerable. Never have your hands in your pockets, never have earbuds in, never have your hands full. 6) I always kept my valuable items (phone, wallet, etc) as close to my body as possible, wore shorts under sweatpants and had them in the shorts, or put them in my waistband. 7) Be armed. I had a kn1fe on my waistband and something else in my pocket. (Obviously what you can carry depends on your areas regulations) 8) If you can, never walk alone.
Oh, i definitely endorse the 'be armed' part. With the caveat of 'with something that can't be called a weapon if you squint'. No one questions a zippo lighter or a ballpoint pen 😂😂

If you are a smoker, and feel like your being followed, you can turn around as if theres a breeze preventing your lighter from working, and buying time to reasonably look around. You can also use the lighter in your fist to lock your knuckle (assuming its a circular type)
If a stranger says "hey wait a minute let me talk to you real quick" don't stop, don't even slow, make them keep up, they're often either panhandling, or about to rob you. And always be armed, what you can be armed with can vary so be aware of local laws

I live in a not exactly rich but 1st world country in an alright neighborhood and I've never heard of those either. I've been in big cities, places that are considered bad, other countries, I always spend the summer in a very high tourism area and I've never been in a situation where these might have helped me. Btw, I don't think #7 always applies. If you're a woman and you're walking around late at night or by yourself to your car, making it obvious that you're looking around and being alert makes you less likely to become a mark for a possible attacker. They usually target distracted unsuspecting victims
Looking with your eyes and not your head is still good, male or female. You're being vigilant while moving with confidence. Many times looking around with your head will seem like one isn't confident.
OK but fr once I was walking home late from uni slowly cause tired and a car was matching my speed in the street it freaked me out so I straightened up and started walking faster and the car left so scary what were they gonna do
My main survival tip in a bad neighborhood is when confronted or interacting with anyone, eye contact and respect works best. Never talk too much, only answer what is asked.
It doesn’t matter how trustworthy a person is, when it comes to danger or life or death situations, they will only think of getting themselves safe and you should do the same. It’s not always voluntary, but it’s safer to assume a friend or family member is not going to shield you from an attacker. Keep yourself safe, and then when you are confident things have slowed down, then make sure whoever you’re with is okay. If you go the other way around, oftentimes a tragedy will happen
I moved to a shady area a few years ago. Shootings happen, whatnot. Look poor is what i go for. Other than that, travel in groups or if you cant keep the hood up, and your hands in your pockets. Occasionally, you could pull out your phone and make a call. Just dont do anything that would draw attention, and youll be fine. Look with your eyes, not your head. My area doesnt seem to have high mugging rates but we have a lot of petty theft so keep your doors locked and a light on, and keep bikes inside.
Street smart tips 1. Look like you know the area (even if you dont) 2. Look angry but dont eye people up 3. Look confident 4. Dont walk with your phone in your hand 5. Dont show off your watch/ jewellery 6. Dont draw attention to yourself 7. Dont look weak 8. Dont have the volume high on your headphones 9. If confronted, hit first and dont back down most of these "gangsters" expect people to be scared 10. Pray 😂😂
The last one : Ex. If you are at a light in a bad area keep room between the car in front of you in case you need to peel out/change direction/move/run etc. Stop signs, Lights, Parallel parking, corner stores, wherever you aren’t a local
If you see a man in a broken down car waving for help, its usually best to ignore them. Realistically most people nowadays have cell phones and will call someone they know for help or call for roadside assistance. A lot of people use this tactic to try to rob you or even worse
As a food delivery driver I can half confirm. Some places it’s as good as a badge, others (rich people gated communities) are locked down harder than Fort Knox.
If someone breaks in your home at night, they're willing and prepared to harm you. And they most likely know you're home. People are most likely to be at home during the night. Which is actually why most robberies occur during the day while everyone's at school or work.
If you feel like someone is watching they probably are. Don’t react like you know but just be extra cautious. It can never hurt to double check either, if you feel nervous getting into your car don’t let feeling silly stop you from making sure you’re actually alone in your car.
One crime at a time people!!! Wear your seatbelt if youre carying drugs, dont jaywalk with a joint, and under no circumstances should you speed on speed.
I found this one primarily only works for guys but if you have to pass some shady individuals get where you're going usually if you're telling me you're going to meet up with a girl that won't get in your way
Get a hat with a circular brim, and put blades inside of where the circular brim is. Your hat is now a shuriken, and you have achieved Speedwagon status.
This is for at least where I'm from - a subtle nod backward when passing someone is a hello and goodbye. A subtle nod forward when passing by is usually a sign of graditiufe or respect. But it's mostly nods of awknowlagement when it comes to driving. Then there are situations where you don't move your head. If you and another person are on a motorcycle at a stop light, wave instead of nod. If you're walking and a motorcycle walks by, unless you know the person, don't do anything.
Presch from Aba and Preach drops this nugget of street intelligence. Look and talk like you're local in another space. That means learn their slang, how they hang. Scammers arw lrss likely to mess with you if they think you're one of them.
Keeping distance between you and the vehicle in front of you is crazy lol i still do that to this day for that reason. Oh, and always take side streets never on main roads. ALWAYS be aware of your surroundings!!!
Dude, the thing with the woman asking for directions, I always say: "I have no idea" because I really don't have the time what their serching for or the other half I'm to stopid to tell her the way there 😂
1)If a random person approaches you asking for the time, say you don't know the time. Most likely, once you either pull out your phone or look down at your watch, they will try to rob you. 2) if you're arguing with someone and they clench their fists while looking away, prepare for a sucker punch.
This one for free Cities are HUGE MIRRORS You can use any windows or reflective surface to look behind you Withouth looking back. Even blurred reflections work, as you most likly want to know how far behind you that other person is not theyr jacket brand.
Walk with confidence. I wish I was kidding. If you walk anywhere with confidence, 9/10, no one is stopping you. Reason? You have the confidence to walk like you're braveheart. No one with street smarts in mischief is going to fuck with the person that has a plan and looks like they have a plan.
One day i was in Turin with my mom and suddenly a van opened up. A group of guys exited the van and started literally selling alcohol to the homeless. I'm not sure how legal it is but my mom turned around and kept staring at it with a look of shock and disbelief. Since i didn't want no beef (especially because i don't live in Turin) i grabbed her by the arm and pulled her away as she told me "They're selling them alcohol!" Quite loudly. This is the same mom who every time I used to stare at people in public, she'd turn my head around and go "It's impolite to stare" I love my mom tho lmao
My #1 advice. Youre not a hero, you didnt see anything, youre not obligated to help, and if they were in youre position they wouldnt help you either just gtfo
In my preteen year I had to move from a very isolated sheltered life To living in the inner city very close to gang activity. The one thing that has always stuck with me from that time in my life You don't ever leave the house without Protection knife, gun, mass. always keep protection accessible to you in your vehicle weather That would be a tire iron or a louisville slugger.
Where I live along the river you don't walk on the footpath past 6 pm, you walk on the bike path or right next to it. The walking path is usually covered by trees.
If you're not from that specific hood, don't go into that specific hood alone. If you gotta go alone, do NOT go at a time that would make you be there after dark. If you do, dont go empty handed. Yall can call me whatever you want, but you sure as hell cant call me a mark

The run away to fight another day sounds like what king koopa always said
“Those who koop and run away live to koop another day”
King koopa
Fighting fair is for people that are willing to lose that fight.
"Look with your eyes, not your head" bro i have glasses, my peripheral vision is nonexistent😭
“Hey dude I ain’t gonna rob you”
“Aww mb bro thought you were but you said you won’t so I believe you”
It's been said before and it'll be said again. Don't fuck around, and you won't find out. This applies to every situation.
All of these are 100000% true. I learnt that the hard way
The last one :

If you can see the bottoms of the rear tires of the car in front of you, you can maneuver around it at a stoplight
My dad is a firefighter last time. He saw someone run away from a fight. They got a shot six times in the back.
An orange vest and a clipboard can get you into most places
No one stops the person holding a fire extinguisher
If you feel like someone is watching they probably are. Don’t react like you know but just be extra cautious. It can never hurt to double check either, if you feel nervous getting into your car don’t let feeling silly stop you from making sure you’re actually alone in your car.
The best way to get into anywhere is the neon vest. Nobody questions the neon vest.
If you look like you're gonna mug someone, nobody's going to mug you
All good tips
One crime at a time people!!! Wear your seatbelt if youre carying drugs, dont jaywalk with a joint, and under no circumstances should you speed on speed.
I found this one primarily only works for guys but if you have to pass some shady individuals get where you're going usually if you're telling me you're going to meet up with a girl that won't get in your way
Get a hat with a circular brim, and put blades inside of where the circular brim is. Your hat is now a shuriken, and you have achieved Speedwagon status.
Running away from a fight is the smart thing to do.
Never relax, when you're around [word that rhymes with relax]
Keeping distance between you and the vehicle in front of you is crazy lol i still do that to this day for that reason. Oh, and always take side streets never on main roads. ALWAYS be aware of your surroundings!!!
1) if you can carry, you probably should 😂
Also be confident remember confidence is key, just don’t be TOO confident cuz some people like to test it
Dude, the thing with the woman asking for directions, I always say: "I have no idea" because I really don't have the time what their serching for or the other half I'm to stopid to tell her the way there 😂
1)If a random person approaches you asking for the time, say you don't know the time. Most likely, once you either pull out your phone or look down at your watch, they will try to rob you.
2) if you're arguing with someone and they clench their fists while looking away, prepare for a sucker punch.

Cities are HUGE MIRRORS
You can use any windows or reflective surface to look behind you Withouth looking back.
Lady- *asks for directions*
My introvert ah- *walks away bc I have headphones on and ‘didn’t hear’ her*
One day i was in Turin with my mom and suddenly a van opened up.
This is the same mom who every time I used to stare at people in public, she'd turn my head around and go "It's impolite to stare"
I love my mom tho lmao
The walking path is usually covered by trees.
can't stress the one crime at a time thing enough
11 is a basic rule i follow daily driving in South Africa
If you're not from that specific hood, don't go into that specific hood alone. If you gotta go alone, do NOT go at a time that would make you be there after dark. If you do, dont go empty handed. Yall can call me whatever you want, but you sure as hell cant call me a mark
