The mistake is hiring to fill a role rather than hiring a person and then creating the role around them....Love it!
Yes, in some places this works. In most places, not a chance.
If I ever get famous, may this lady interview me.
Dude, you are just admitting you don't meet many reasonably attractive women in real life. Get out of the basement.
Yes, of course i can :)
She's an attractive pain in the ass.
@@carina9302 You're one of the coolest woman I ever saw, and I met some really awesome women. Don't ever change ! You're a great communicator, truly. I never saw Rory enjoying an interview like this.
Blessings, Carina.
@@carina9302 I work in production and see a lot of hosts. You have the makings of a great one. I think you found your calling.
I have all the attributes this guy praised... I'm unemployed.
It could be a sign that you're meant to run your own agency.
@@KudakwasheMutsauri-Quad I think you're right. Cheers :)
Did you run your own agency?
Don't know how I got here, but she's one of the best interviewers I've seen.
P.S. no hurry can justify posting a two-cam show with only one cam graded.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH! Really appreciate that
"Where you direct your attention, affects what you deem to be important"....
I watched this post Jordan Peterson video....now I know why.
UA-cam algorithm man, I'm telling ya.
boom
Holy cow
Thank you.
I needed this. Truly insightful.
Great production. Loved the questions and chill approach to the interview.
THANK YOU
@@carina9302 do you have an IG?
mjl yep @carinamaggar
@@carina9302 thank you. Big fan of your personality and way you handle interviews. You seem to be a genuine human and a breath of fresh air. Granted this interview is not recent so it's of course possible my hopes that you remain the same but also experienced growth in a way that would benefit my selfish ideal of you is, obviously, unrealistic. (And not actually something that I truly want for anyone. I want for anyone to grow into what's best for them.) At this point it's apparent I am rambling and getting so far off topic that I have had to re-read my original sentences to remind myself to shut up. Ok, bye. 🤣🤙
Clearly the greatest new UA-cam series of 2017.
Incidentally, Rory & Carina need a primetime TV vehicle
we're working on it!
One of the best interviews I have seen. Great content and thoughts!
Here again Mr.Sutherland from OG&M gave the inside fact of knowledge type of info. Thank you Sir.
I love this interview thank you for sharing
this warmed the soul :)
Love this guy, wish I could work under him !
love Rory! always so many good ideas and so confident in them :)
I could listen to this guy all day.
This was most excellent! Thank you, friends, for taking the time to share this, much obliged.
"It's just advertising" - I would tell friends.....but they still went ahead and bought the product!
Great interview
Great interview, I like the way they kept it fun and engaging.
This was fantastic
Thank you!
Correlation between idleness and ingenuity... Fabulous
I LOVE THIS MAN!! ❤😂
that young woman has nothing to worry about. she's so bright the dude can only look at her with one eye. I saw he does have two eyes, but she's like the friggin sun.
What the hell are you talking about? All you're really saying is that Sutherland was way over your head.
Well thank you so very much. Appreciate it!
:DDDDDDD
Hahahahahahaha!!! GENIUS comment bro! I agree!
She certainly had some spunk for a 28 yo! Of all the Sutherland videos of binge watched today, this had to be the most enjoyable one. He seemed quite in his element with it!
One of Mr. Ogilvy's random YT videos brought me here. I'm from Brazil and kind of blown away by some of the things that came out of this man's mouth.
Thankyou for your knowledge sir
Solid advice 👏🏾
Great interview...... Impressed with this personality
Rory is a brilliant thinker
I taught Carina on Foundation - I distinctly remember her standing in a small hand-drawn circle in the middle of the studio, for several hours, dressed as an elephant.
Ahhhh!!! I'd forgotten about this! Thanks for reminding me (not much has changed). Foundation was the best year of my life!! Carina x
hahahaha this is brilliant
That's so sweet!
@@OneOneOneEveryLondonOfficeYes - foundation was my best ever year of education.....50 years ago!
Fantastic work😊
recently i have watched many of Mr Rory videos, and all of them lets be honest were quite same, but this one, was breath of a fresh air, learning that he too has failed and all that, = hope for me
This interview was great. Especially the laid back fun. It's actually hard to ask for questions but these were good and the rapport natural. Really inspiring me for my podcast.
thanks very much, that's great to hear
LOVE RORY amazing insight & I wore overalls as a NY Mad Woman working for a President. My male assistant would comment ironically "She is Doing It for Defense!" Where was Rory when O & M was my agency? Would have hired O & M London in a NY Minute!
This was fun 😊👍🏻
LOL this one is one of the better interviews, she's bossing him but they have some great chemistry. Rory is KING
That's.. calming.
This was amazing. Big props to both of them. This is how I like to see creatives interviewed - by someone creative who isn't afraid to put themselves out there as well.
THANKS!
@@carina9302 However and whatever you're doing, I hope you do more and that I can watch it on youtube! Thanks so much for making this series. Wishing you all the best.
This video has way too few views. Fantastic interview.
Thank you!
brilliant interview!
Thank you
Great!
This is GOOD CONTENT.
One of those people who I have enjoyed working with, not working for, because the methodology is basically "see what works" and "park by feel" abandonment of reason.
As he points out, it's the dilemma of inexperience, and because the shift from Apprenticeship to Career is inevitable, in reaction to the availability of qualified persons easily outsourced, eventually the pendulum swings back and the tenacious and curious self-teaching person "falls into place".
Although all the lottery winners probably say it was the wisdom of their own efforts?
I love this womans interviewing style. Did anyone catch her name?
Hey! Yes. It's me. Carina Maggar - you can find me on twitter :)
@@carina9302 HEY YOUR INTERVIEWING STYLE IS AMAZING I DON'T CARE WHO U ARE I WILL FIND YOU AND I''LL MARRY YOU
Jazy Bhai 😃 thank youuu and Goodluck!
@@carina9302 If i ever got famous, will you interview me?
you need to open your own company (or start as self employed). you have no other way!
something tells me the sun was shining in Rory's eye during this interview
He's brilliant and she's got a beautiful personality!
thank you!
Hello, team from the ones. I loved this video and I am a fan of Mr. Sutherland. I would like to use a bit of the audio from this video on my own video and to spread the great insights and motivation of Mr Sutherland to other people. Please contact me because I would like to have your permission to do so.
Comment back here and I will share my information to you guys if it's alright with you.
Keep working hard towards enlightening the people of this world 😇
Just great
That was one wacky interview xD looking forward to more like this
I guess the solution to that initial point is to - yes, plan - but only in short windows, not years at a time. I think two year windows are a good range, or as little as a few months.
That was one of the best interviewers I've seen - Great Job! Not to sound like a perv but really cute too. Looks a bit like Jodie Comer ;p Thumbs UP -
steve cummings that is so weird you say that! It's not the first time I've been told that and THANK YOU BECAUSE I LOVE HER. so glad you liked the interview ☺️
Does anyone think that Rory resembles the late Christopher Hitchen??
Not a chance... Same wit perhaps (Christopher was a bit smarter, well a lot smarter) but they don't look alike physically. Oh and it is Hitchens... with an S
@@jaleotech5918 He does come across as more genuine than Hitchens, who seemed to be a lot more on the pessimistic side and could often come across as condescending or too up his own butt.
Ivan Ong he’s def got his swag
@@jaleotech5918 First thing he reminded me of.
Yes indeed! I think it’s the mix of wit and intellect
A brilliant lady. Almost 30!
Thanks!
Dear, don't forget to match the color settings between both cameras. Great interview.
They were not good at two things lol.
Don't be mean. You don't know what goes in to making these FOR FREE.
@@carina9302
Lol...
If you guys like this you should check out him on the farnam street podcast, highly recommend
truly fascinating interview, but pls next time use the same cameras or whatever. thanks for the clip!
Of course we knew that but we had a camera issue that day
Rory is too cool
The Coolest
the coolest.
He's so interesting to talk to
I appreciate the mind on him but just realized his weakness which is a bad habit of mine as well.... he's a smoker! Shocking for such a smart educated person...
And then next year we gotta be exceptionally good at three things
the answer is always beatles
I liked sports one betterrrrrrr!! Please do more of theseee!
Song at intro is?
Head of content..........that is true......very hilarious
What's the name of the interviewer, please? Credit her?
I like that women she is so sweet and very professionnel
Thank you! @carinamaggar that's me
I love Rory Sutherland and that is why I watched this; wouldn't have otherwise, the colour grading is simply horrendous.
Obviously I'm going to employ a person because I need them to perform a specific task, it's not just a fun game where they get to do whatever they want.
Not all jobs have entirely static roles to be filled though. I could see how in the advertising industry, different clients with different projects means less of a need for hyper specific and rigid job titles. A great employee with a specific set of skills who is adaptable to different scenarios could be hired and be assigned to projects as and when needed.

At ArenaNet in Bellevue Washington, we had "Fancy Fridays".
Ingenuity and laziness go hand in hand....was it jut me or was Sutherland here effectively saying 'I am clever and that is the reason I do not do any exercise. The interview would have been better if she had asked some difficult questions, for example 1) how often do Ogilvy move people around rather than fire them if they are not any good. Also, it was not just a few people who thought the Pepsi add was bad, it was pretty much universally condemned. So here is something we should all aim to be good....being honest with ourselves
Why does this channel have so few subscribers and why arent they making more videos?
For the answer to your first question, I'll refer you to your second question. As for the second question, they probably failed to realise the reality of UA-cam channels, which is that it takes a couple of years of consistent, thankless posting before you start to see substantial growth.
Hey! I'm the interviewer here and I used to produce all these videos. I left the job and so no more videos sadly. Also they were expensive to film but that wasn't the main issue. Glad you enjoyed them !
Ishaq Nabi hey! Thanks for your comment and I'm glad you enjoyed watching these. Sadly that's the end of the videos :( I do miss making them !
I want to be friends with this girl. And friends with Rory.
Interesting real people.
8:22 so this where the concept for Squid Game came from!
Why a journalist interrupts all of the time?
what are the two things tho?
bene100degrees anything
Ok so I went through the entire video. What are the two things then ?
What were the two things?
Robert Lugg anything
Cheese on cereal is a no go.
I wouldn't want cheese on my ice cream...
Wait, what if it's nacho cheese...hmm...with a sea salt caramel ice cream.
Nevermind.
i like trains......
Who’s this guy one of the best interviews , as well as the interviewer she seem. That she had a relation to the topics they talk about well done .
Oh. Hi Carina.
Please drop the carbs a bit, big man
I know. Great mind, but very unhealthy looking. He needs apply BS and change his habits.
Does anyone know of a list of succesfull careers, occupations, jobs etc. that are the result of being good at two things? Young people like anecdotal evidence. Come to think of it everyone does.
Great interview. But.. color grade?? lol.
Hey. Don't be mean. We had sooooo many camera issues this day and the weather was being crazy
@@carina9302 I'm not being mean - I meant it in a friendly, teasing manner. You color grade in your editing software. I realize you didn't know, but you were using a log profile on your camera - which is totally fine, it just needs a color grade in post production. Loved the interview tho, sister.🔥
So... What are the two things?
You have to be good at 2 things. He's saying don't focus on just one thing
Can't put cheese on chocolate.
cheese and cereal
He's a genius, that's how girly.
4:56 Wouldn't journalists be less keen on reporting scandal/outrage if it's unfavourable reporting of subject if they happened to be their advertiser? conflict of interest, perhaps? My surmise: mad people with extreme opinions weren't difficult to find, but were easy to omit as they were the gate-keepers. Social media is leveling the playing feel. I would be cautious looking through such a tinted rose glasses.
Ramen soup is definitely not improved by adding cheese.
" How " ? - Errr he went to Cambridge. That's what the Oxbridge experience is. That's what people pay for in advance. Guaranteed success. If not in one role then people find other roles.
Everyone else gets fired like trash. It's called reality.
Sorry, am I the only one who didn't get the "2 things"?
Paulo Egydio he doesn't specify the two things. He's saying don't concentrate on being good at just one thing. Excel at two.
Well yeah, I probably didn't get that way. Maybe, I watched it expecting he'd talk about 2 characteristics we should "have".
Thanks a lot for replying. ;)
I liked your website. Really! "Maggarzine" is awesome!!!
Cheers
NO NO NO!!! NO CHEESE ON ANY SEAFOOD!!! THAT'S BLASPHEMOUS!!! If your seafood improves with cheese, then there is something wrong with the quality of your seafood in the first place
Maybe depends where you’re from, but there are a number of decent sandwiches focused on something like baby shrimp and cheddar in them and they taste pretty good.
Just because its the norm, doesn't mean it can't be good.
Have you ever tried Great Scalopps and Parmesan???
@@KhenpoDub sounds like some made up yank shit. Try that in Italy and you'll be shot.
Hehe, Rory reminds me of myself. I'm a lazy creative type.
Why is it okay for Ogilvy to take money from clients to make their products famous, make people want it and get them to spend money on it (making an opinion that did not exist earlier, mainstream) but not okay for twitter users to get together and hashtag something into getting attention to something they did not agree with (Pepsi) ?
Why is Ogilvy amplifying a voice okay but others doing it not okay?
Powerful have voiced opinions and screamed loudest to make their opinions the truth, but the poor never had that opportunity.
The social media is giving users that same power.
Some are going to misuse it, just the like the rich have misused advertising.
You are not different from what the twitter and other social media armies do, amplify an opinion to make it the truth.
Doesn't matter what the fact is.
this is so random
It's Sushi, cheese and sushi is disgusting.
cream cheese count?
@@JamisonMyth Personally, I think anything that overpowers the fish taste is unacceptable, aka mayo and cream cheese and mystery sauce. Masking bad fish is what they are doing.
