JACK NICHOLSON....a multi talented actor that can master any character role that will always be in demand for everlasting impressive scenario, good, bad, and sometimes insane ......he has done it! What an impressive resume for a beloved actor who loves to watch the Lakers in person at a Professional Basketball Game wherever it may be!.....

This and The Shooting (also on You Tube) Both westerns Directed by Hellman and starring Nicholson and Millie Perkins, they are really solid and idiosyncratic westerns and well worth a watch, thank you for posting this one I've been looking for it for some time.

That was life Now you know why in almost all those old photos from way back then, NOBODY smiled for the camera. Life was rough. You went OUT OF YOUR WAY to ride the straight and narrow. You were careful in how you treated others. There was such a a thing as shame, and reputation meant something.

Second time I've seen this movie. First time was at the movies .Jack Nicholson is so young in there which makes Buck, the passenger on horse ( from High Chaparell ) look way older than Jack. High Chaparell was my favorite tv western back in the early 70s.
You feel your true age when you view these movies. Great memories.

@@matiu1 Yeah I agree. IT'S like getting in a transporter on Star Trek, or a Time machine from HG Welle's fictional Story (The Time Machine) and then being transported back too those good ole, late Teen & early Twenty year ages of our then early Adulthood's.
Where we were actually still naive enough or gullible enough too think 💬🤔 that we could really eventually change many things? That we realized then we're Not acceptable or we thought they could be altered or eliminated.
Looking back now 40 plus year's. I guess we made changes, and progression, but didn't we also loss some thing's or the simpler innocence that was prevalent then? For my thoughts 💭 I'm now thinking that we may have. And that it was unfortunately due too the rampant escalation on Government's in all areas or the World at those Times? Simply & mildly with subtle manipulation of the entire Global & World population they then contrived too Control World thought & it's motivation to the near Future of where we now are? These are just my drawn & very recent POV, or opinions I've deprived at just recently. OH well & as they say it's becoming a New Day? And we don't know what that beings until Tomorrow. Written and produced by Nicholson, I saw this as a minimalist Western with an existential treatment like Nicholson's early film "Five Easy Pieces". Reliance on the faded landscape and horses and people of few words living hard lives. Nothing glorious about any of this. Those two women were left without their father/husband and their only two horses stolen as the vigilantes came through and left them. The innocent cowboy Nicholson ended up as a killer and horse thief on the run after losing his two friends who rides off into dust...yes, it was a whirlwind of several days that changed everything for him.

What can I say? Except that was not your usual ☺️☺️ Western of the era!!
I hadn't recalled ever seeing it before now. My memory is faint sometimes, and I found watching it now, that it was kinda slow 🦥🦥at times where I had too backup and refresh my mind at times? In the end though I found it intriguing, thought 💭💭 provoking, and also sad 😢😭.One excellent thing about it was the cast? From Cameron Mitchell of The High Chaperell series, Harry Dean Stanton, Millie Perkins, and of course Jack Nicholson, tho they weren't well known in Hollywood yet? The majority of the cast were well known TV, performers from that time. In conclusion I'd of given it 3.5/4 stars as the critic's say, today just on its merits of being out of the norm, for a Western movie. In the comments someone else mentioned how, in those days even a day/day mundane cowboy, drifter, or homesteader life ? Was full of unforseen dangers, hazards and circumstances. The Citizens defense or, Vigilante association, I felt were intirerly wrong and poorly lead. They had too constantly be on the lookout for trouble, from anywhere, at anytime. Overall a fine film, and a very commendable effort by Mr Jack Nicholson at the time. Thanks you😊😊 for screening it for US.

@@jeremyashford2145 I bought she was 18. I even thought they were going to say 14 because of the era and how the dad subtly tried to get her married off that vigilantly cowboy. I liked how they had the black man to pay homage of sorts to all the black cowboys after civil war. That was pretty good horse riding for Nicholson, he was not bouncing all over the place. I am glad you and bilg shared some back history of Millie Perkins. She was great in Ann Frank. haha I do not think that cow was really giving any milk. She looked pretty dry and camera angle looked like it purposly hid the milking part. Great movie , liked the story line. Not every story comes out peaches and cream. OOOPPs killed her dad, their goes that potential relationship.

Pretty damn good movie. I never realized how good of an actor Jack Nicholson was in his younger years.

It’s crazy to look back and see how many major actors of our era got their starts - or earned their spurs, so to speak - in westerns back in the early 60s. And in many cases, horror films in the 70s.

I know..gotta watch... Missouri breaks if u have not..it's got Brando as well..love classics & noticed the new Westerns great photography but overall performances always lacking...great to find these gems. Gonna watch now...comments are my go-to these days whether I watch or not. But with Jack here I always will watch anything of his I have not yet seen.thanks for commenting I watch those 70's flicks too. Always worthy of being viewed. Not always true of today's movies ..mostly lazy saturday afternoon & Westerns oldies are fun to see with big names in them..

Mary Anita Schmidt Missouri Breaks has been on my list for years (probably since I found out it was directed by Arthur Penn, whose film from the year before, Night Moves, I absolutely love!), and I’m not sure why I’ve never yet seen it! Thanks for the extra push!
