Klaus Kinski and Gian Maria Volonté were a couple of the most finest underrated actors of my time, both died not too far apart at almost the same and what some would consider a relativity young age. I believe he goes beyond that and becomes an anarchist. The image of the bread from earlier where a child is told to divide it equally amongst his family, reoccurs later when a kid is holding some coins and Chuncho says “don’t use it to buy bread use it to buy dynamite!” And runs off like a mad man. Gian Maria Volonté (9 April 1933 - 6 December 1994) was an Italian actor, remembered for his versatility as an interpreter, his outspoken left-wing leanings and fiery temper on and off-screen. He is perhaps most famous outside Italy for his roles in four Spaghetti Western films: Ramon Rojo and El Indio in Sergio Leone's A Fistful of Dollars (1964) and For a Few Dollars More (1965), El Chuncho Munoz in Damiano Damiani's A Bullet for the General (1966) and Professor Brad Fletcher in Sergio Sollima's Face to Face (1967).
I could feel Nino was up to something. He never told the full truth nor was 100% honest with Chuncho. He was hiding something and that golden bullet was the key. He had to kill someone, but it couldn't of been Chuncho. Throughout the movie he was slowly separating the group through decisions that would divide them, bit by bit. He used Chuncho as a puppet to gain his ultimate goal: "A Bullet For The General." (Elias)
Just wow. This movie is better than anything 2000+ (in western). I can't believe it's from 1967. The italians made extremely nice westerns back then. Here a nice alternative to us-western: in mexico++ The movie clearly shows that everything that was necessary to make any good movie existed back then. This is one of the best Italian western movie by Damiano Damiani among all ! I watched this at a local theatre in Yokohama when i was around 20 and impressed so deep in my heart. Thanks for uploading!
I always loved the photography the best as well as the rousing music and the protagonists were never white hats - they were always motivated by greed or revenge. The violence or action is done best when its short burts after a tension filled drawn to breaking point showdown or a dirty trick like a shot in the back. No honour here.
From the very beginning this is banging. Right away the body count is climbing. Almost has a Cormac McCarthy vibe, directed by Sergio Corbucci with his penchant for nonstop plot twists, and a little bit of Lost Boys weird vibe. Also I absolutely dig the couple of Saguaro cactus sculptures designed by apparently Wes Anderson that they managed to get into so many shots in the first sequence... It's the most American cactus. 19:56 Has a Tatooine vibe.
