  • If you appreciate the work I do here on the channel and would like to help me create more content like this, Super Thanks is a great way to help out. It allows me to purchase new GPU's and games making these videos possible. Thanks! 😁
    I know I've said you shouldn't buy a 4060ti at the MSRP but if it ever gets discounted and buying one actually makes sense then consider using my Amazon affiliate link - amzn.to/3OtPdxE
    The GeForce RTX 4060ti has had a bit of a tough start. Not because it's a bad GPU, but because Nvidia in their infinite wisdom (cough greed) has set the MSRP at $400 U.S., which again wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing, but they only included 8GB of GDDR6 VRAM on the card! Yes, there is a 16GB version as well but it costs an additional $100 U.S. making it an equally terrible value. In this video we take a look as to whether 8GB of VRAM is enough to play VR games, and of course take a look at the kind of performance you can expect in VR if you choose to buy a 4060ti.

    Hey maraksot! I’m in the process of parting out a new pc right now, and your benchmarks have been very helpful. I was looking around some vr youtube channels, and I noticed a few people talking about the AMD FSR steamvr mod. In most of the tests I’ve seen, it almost cuts frametime in half! Would love to see some in depth testing with your format. Keep up the good work man

    Awesome to see you testing more games! Because vr performance tends to not scale well between games this is really helpful!

    I partially agree with your conclusion on the VRAM limitations of this GPU, but I believe the limitations you experienced are more linked to the VRAM bus width than the amount of VRAM sadly... the 4060ti has a 128 bit-bus, which can be really bad for higher resolutions. If this is the case, one can argue that not even the 16gb version of this card can be saved. I hope it is just a driver issue and it can be fixed down the road

    Remember that the 45Fps drop that happens in the mirror and other heavy areas is due to oculus software doing the fps cap
    turn off asynchronous spacewarp and instead of oculus caping the frame rate at 45 you will get about 55 to 60fps

      I recently got into vr myself and i can confirm on oculus quest 2 (or similar) you really need to make use of the official debug tool that lets you change this setting and soo much more!
      Without ASW games are much more playable when you are on the edge of performance but still manage it - its just too aggressive cutting fps in half for 5 seconds.
      Whats as important as resolution or even more important is the bitrate which the oculus quest 2 for example streams onto the headset - around 350 mb/s is a good value - some even go to 450 for a more clear image.

    I feel like the stutter is related with the gpu bandwith bc the 4060ti runs at 128 bits and has 8 pcie lanes instead of 16, and with low bandwith you may struggle on high resolutions

    Hi, my Palit Nvidia Turbo RTX 3080ti with 12gb DDR6 RAM which supports the variable monitor framerate and runs at a 240fps, in my opinion seems to agree with what you are saying. With 32gb DDR4 RAM on the Asus ROG motherboard in my opinion it seems transferring the Graphics card RAM to the CPU may be less useful than linking it to the GPU in running games. What is your opinion please?

    All my VR games stutter at 120 Hz, but none do at 90 Hz. I think it's an Oculus Link thing. Maybe it only happens on Windows 11? I'm on a 1080 ti (11 GB VRAM) btw

    Thank you for this video. You are the only one showing this card for VR. Ive ordered the 4060ti 16gb. I feel its a good upgrade from a 2060 6gb. This was £30 more than a new 3060ti (£369) orginally £450. Was going to go with everyone saying go for 3060ti, 306012gb and those didnt seem like the upgrade i was looking for. Even in past post many people saying dont upgrade to 3060 from 2060 because no significant change. Now they say dont upgrade to 4060ti... I only play vr and i have a low budget to upgrade due to family life. So many contradictions online it almost makes you want to just shut off!

      I may benchmark the 4060 at some point, but as of right now I do not have a plan to any time in the near future. My channel earns quite a bit less money than most people probably think and I buy all the GPU's I test with money the channel earns. I don't get any of them for free like the big tech reviewers do so I buy and test what I can when I can. I wish I could access and test every GPU as they come out but that's not where my channel is at currently. Maybe some day though.

    When you up the resolution then yes it will take more VRAM but there is no evidence on your part it's VRAM as VR games don't use much VRAM, it's clearly evident by the texture quality in VR games. You probably watch other video's on the card about VRAM limitation and foolishly applied it to VR.

  • @TableBox
    @TableBox 10 місяців тому

    so mostly for vr games it's a bad gpu, but for contractors is fine ?

    • @Maraksot78
      @Maraksot78  10 місяців тому

      The 4060ti is actually a good GPU, the problem is the price and the amount and speed of GDDR6 VRAM. It's just not a good value. If the price was $275 to $300, people would have less of a reason to hate on it. Only having 8GB of GDDR6 VRAM limits it especially when you're running at higher resolutions and/or high detail settings which is what you're doing in VR and in modern "flat" games. Looking at "flat" gaming reviews of the 4060ti coupled with my own findings, 8GB of VRAM with its current clock speeds/bus limitations just isn't good enough for modern games. If you turn the resolution and/or detail settings down, or in the case of VR turn the refresh rate/frame rate down, that reduces the amount of VRAM needed to run a game. So that's the beef most people have with the 4060ti, by only putting 8GB of VRAM on the card Nvidia has essentially kneecapped it, where it's not able to perform to it's full capability in a lot of games. And the $400 price tag just adds insult to injury.
      Contractors just doesn't have as detailed/complex as textures as most of the other games I tested so it seems the 8GB of VRAM was just enough for that game to run 120HZ where as all the other games I tested it wasn't enough.
