How to clean and prepare a whole crab

- Tutorial video for how to clean and prepare a whole live crab! I'm using a mud crab here but the same steps apply to any large crab, say 1kg / 2lb.

Mud crabs are my favorite. I grew up in Samoa and we'd eat a few mud crabs every Sunday. They are getting harder to find now because the mangroves where they thrive are decreasing. Thank you for the wonderful video! Now I'm craving crabs!!!😅🤗🦀
It's no wonder crabmeat is so expensive. There's alot of labor involved for the little amount of meat you actually get. From the claws mainly. That recipe looks really good.
The best tasting is from the rear of the body. Notably in females. Worth the work to get it!

I used to catch crabs all the time. We went out crab hunting. With my mom who loved crab meat. Gutting them was sort of. Interesting. The smell lingered for about a few days.

Interesting way to clean a crab, but I don't think a cleaver was necessary since all the joints just twist and pop right off.
some crabs have thorns . you can just twist them without getting injured

I do like eating crab , i rarely ate but can't make it. Here they don't take out meat , they simply cook it by making pieces , and one need to suck them out while eating.
tomally is not always safe to eat. its the reason causing shell fish poisoing

A female is called a hen so the male is called a cock crab. If you turn a crab over and look at its underside, you will see a flap. If the flap is narrow, it is a cock. Hen crabs have a broad, rounder flap. This one is a cock crab. You really need one of each to compare them.
My sister lives in Maryland. She said a female has an underside flap that looks like the Capitol bldg and a male has the Washington Monument.
